  1. couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. We're definitely pulling for him here in Peoria :) I may now need to get a little more serious about trying to plan that trip to Jackson in August...
  2. I'll be able to provide updates from Kane County, since even the Best Western Naperville has free wireless these days  go Chiefs!
  3. Any mention of how Carter's defense has been in the OF? I know someone (maybe you) had mentioned that he looked terrible when I first came up from Arizona; has he adjusted any or is his play still pretty rough? It was not me and I haven't heard Nathan mention it specifically in the recent broadcasts I've heard. You might want to ask Nathan in the sticky thread here. I know he played RF & CF the other night (shifted with player substitutions), and he was in RF tonight. I haven't had a chance to get to Peoria yet this season because of a crazy work schedule. That should change soon and I'm planning on hitting several games starting next month -- I'll be sure to report back. It was me that made that comment, and he seems much better now. I made those comments based on the first game in Peoria, so perhaps he was just getting used to O'Brien Field. I've been traveling for business, but from what I've heard from Nate on the radio, he seems to have gotten comfortable. That first game he played in center, and don't really recall where he's been playing over the last few games, but I think there's been at least some time spent in left. I'm so excited for the Chiefs to have clinched a playoff spot. We'll be in Kane County over the weekend as well, and I'd love to see us make up ground and pass them for the title.
  4. without pujols = bad I'm pretty sure the rest of my guys *are* in a coma... ack.
  5. actually, it's not so bad :) Each scorecard makes the assumption that a team will bat around in an inning, so having a player come up in both the first and second is not that big a deal. Most scorecards (this one is my favorite) provide an extra inning or 2 just in case. Generally when a team bats around, I'll just take the next column, scratch off the inning at the top and renumber. Normally, in these situations, you don't have to worry about extra innings as well. I admit it - I'm a scorecard geek
  6. We actually saw Jared Lansford pitch for the Kane County Cougars (Oakland affiliate) when they were in Peoria playing the Chiefs a couple of weeks ago. I was impressed - hopefully Josh will do well with the Cubs.
  7. Chiefs are now up 2-1 3 walks and a HBP for the go-ahead Norwood with a base hit to score 2 more woo hoo! Chiefs up 4-1 Good stuff...now Campy can come in for the save!
  8. just wanted to make you jealous :-# I will be quiet now...
  9. yipee! am glad to see Sam's hard work pay off. :)
  10. there are several great action shots from this year (and last too...) at http://www.peoriachiefs.com/multimedia/photos/ *I* got a hotel with complimentary high speed access
  11. well, I'm on the way up :) Currently at 1258 with an ESPN of 29 watch out - I'm storming a comeback now... :jocolor:
  12. I would agree that Carter would/will have a tough time getting ABs as a catcher in Peoria. Justin Morgan retired from the club after the game on Saturday - he had really been functioning as a bullpen catcher, getting only 2 starts in the season thus far. Muyco and Reed have been alternating days, with Reed DHing on his "off" day since Kevin Collins went back on the DL (then sent back to Mesa) for whatever his foot/leg thing is. Interestingly enough, when looking at the new roster at the game last night, Alberto Garcia is now listed as an infielder and Yusef is listed as an outfielder. All I can hope is that Yusef has got better wheels on him than he showed in the game last night - there were at least 2 balls that fell in front of him that he didn't even try to get to, then one that went over his head. He may still be learning the outfield, but Davy Gregg is much better defensively. Also, not sure if it got mentioned elsewhere, but Mike Billek has been sent up to Daytona, with word being that he'll be a starting role up there. Whew! guess that's all for now. I'm just hoping the Chiefs break out of whatever funk they were in with the new series tonight in Burlington.
  13. Pujols being out is going to give *someone* out there a chance to catch up. Drats. So much for the whole "superhuman" thing...
  14. yes, Ft Wayne wins 2-0. I agree completely with Nate, Prior looked *much* better than he did on Monday (thank goodness), even though Kane County is a much better team than Ft Wayne, his pitching was a lot sharper. Unfortunately, the rest of the Chiefs looked pooped. I'm not sure if this is reality or just my perception, but after such an intense series with KC, they seemed to be mentally tired yesterday. After 2 double-headers in a row, they've got to be at least a little beat physically too.
  15. since they're playing 2 in Peoria tonight, the first game is scheduled to begin at 6pm instead of 7 :) we were trying to figure out who might be pitching and were guessing Blackford, but don't know for sure...
  16. Sam was robbed. At least he'll get a couple of days off as a consolation prize.
  17. Peoria's game has been suspended until tomorrow night due to the torrential rain that came through about 7pm. They got 2 innings in and are currently trailing 1-0. I believe I heard the PA announce that this postponed game will resume at 4pm tomorrow afternoon, then a 7 inning game will follow to wrap the Kane County series. Not sure what will happen with the pitching. The Chiefs will also be playing 2 against Ft Wayne on Friday night to make up a rain out earlier this half.
  18. Mitch Atkins pitched great for Peoria again tonight. He struggled a bit early, but Kane County had a tough time with him later on. Even better, the Chiefs brought their bats tonight to give Mitch a bit of offense. They managed 3 earned off of Jared Lansford (who came into the game with a .90 ERA) Good stuff! The icing on the cake was Ed Campusano's 16th save of the season. Woo hoo! Go Chiefs :D
  19. it's pretty bad when I'm losing the loser contest ;) Hopelessly Bad Baseball should have picked a few more cubs (sadly) I'm currently 1275 of 1342 with a measly 10 points. Rios and Mark Hendrickson have doomed me to "not bad"ness so far. We still have 3/4 of a season for these folks to do much, much worse though.
  20. it was great to see Peoria win tonight after a couple of tough games. Mark Reed had one at-bat in particular where he should have been on base due to a walk - the ump called a very questionable strike 2 (on a 3-1 count) that was about the same height as Mark's nasal passages. A lack of consistency yet again with the strike zone. Ed Campusano has his league-leading 15th save of the year and was pitching lights-out again tonight. Matt Ciaramella had a great game with an outstanding running catch to save a run in the bottom of the 8th and lead off the 9th with a double after homering in the 6th. Good stuff for sure! Now I just have to try not to melt at the game tomorrow - the humidity has really set in here...it's a 2pm game and it's supposed to be 94 here tomorrow. Ack. Go Chiefs! (will Kane County lose already?!?) Karen
  21. Hi All! Just noticed on the Chiefs website that the MWL All-Star ballot is out...with ballots due back by 2 June for announcement on 5 June. Chiefs on the ballot include: - Mark Reed - Ryan Norwood - Dylan Johnston - Jesus Valdez - Mitch Atkins - Matt Avery - Jeff Teasley - Ed Campusano for more... http://www.peoriachiefs.com/news/?id=5882
  22. We're in Clinton for the Chiefs series this weekend, and it was a total heartbreaker to see them lose last night. Mitch has consistently been pitching well, and toward the end of his night last night, was able to pitch out of things without giving up a run. He deserved a win to be sure. I'm no pitching expert to be sure, but it's been great to watch him pitch.
  23. currently up to about 8500 votes - with Ribbee still at 80% of the vote. Ribbee rocks. :thumleft:
  24. <--------- Sam Fuld has been named the Florida State League's offensive player of the week. His line for the week: .500 (14-28), 12 R, 3 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 5 BB, 4 SO, 5 SB, .964 SLG Yowza - I hope he keeps it up!
  25. Hi All! Just received this from the Chiefs this AM... I didn't see anything quite like this posted, it's a bit hazy to be sure, but I'll pass on more info if/when I get it. Happy Monday! Karen
