  1. It turned out to be a bit of a disheartening day to watch our Chiefs today. Taylor (especially) did not deserve to lose his game and Atkins pitched pretty well too. I'm hoping we find our offense before the playoffs begin.
  2. the Peoria game will start at 7pm tonight...gates will open at 6 though :)
  3. word was that MWL put these days in as rainout buffers. We don't have anything to make up, thus 2 whole days off. Jody's going to be singing the 7th Inning Stretch at wrigley on Tues, so I'm gonna have to set the TiVo on that one.
  4. I'm in 1295 - darn Alex Rios. my espn is only 75. there's always next season?!?
  5. I'm wondering what they're going to be doing with our new catcher that we got in the Neifi trade. Olin Wick went up to FL again last Monday, and Rick and Muyco are also there. Perhaps they'll move another catcher up to WT?
  6. make that 12 for Atkins! Dang, I wish I was in Appleton to see this.
  7. woo hoo! 11K for Atkins...he obviously got the good NSBB vibes tonight :D
  8. all I know is that, defensively, in RF last year, he spoiled us here in Peoria (as did Sam Fuld in CF). He could get to just about anything and had a rocket of an arm...there were very few that tried to get a double out of a long single only to get thrown out. Jesus Valdez hasn't been bad (although hasn't been as good either) and Yusuf Carter's bat hasn't made up for his lousy defense yet IMO I'm glad his bat has come alive, to be sure...but I think a lot of folks have discounted his defensive skill.
  9. If I remember correctly, if Atkins gets his 12th win tonight, he'll be tied for the league lead. He's been great lately and seems to be the only thing managing to balance out Joel Santo in the Chiefs rotation right now. ATKINS!!! We'll be listening...hopefully the offense will generate some run support.
  10. Someone tipped him off yesterday that he was going to start for the Cubs today. He's from Illinois, lifelong Cubs fan. I believe I heard Len say O'Malley was from Springfield. Down there, it's as likely to grow up Cards as Cubs, so glad he made the right decision. :) It really was nice to see his folks there and have such a great game. It looks like a 15 hour drive to Houston from Springfield, but there look to be a couple of non-stops from St Louis to Houston. Glad that they got there for such an early game.
  11. I believe he's from NY, thus the affinity for Yankee Stadium...at least he didn't wish to be playing for the Mets...
  12. this will be really great for the playoffs. I wonder if those of us who are already MLB All Access subscribers will have to pay additional. Probably... I really wish that the sports pages online had minor league scores - both for baseball and hockey. At least at this point, I've not been able to find a good source (to find out, for instance, if Kane County is winning while I'm in my seat at the Chiefs game) I also love the ability to get weather radar on my sprint phone.
  13. yes, Burlington has not been good. Clinton has been as bad or worse, at least against the Chiefs. I'm not complaining, though, as Burlington comes in to Peoria for 4 games starting tomorrow. We need to kick their behinds to make up for getting swept up in Kane County
  14. I've dropped the old league and joined the new - although I did change the name of my team to IsItBaseballSeasonYet? I like football too...it's just not the same :) A couple of quick comments: 1) it looks like the new league isn't set up as a keeper (yet) 2) could you please post here when we decide on a draft date? I need to pre-order things, but I'm not in the habit of looking at fleaflicker at this point...it's more likely that I'll actually show up to the draft if I see an announcement here Looking forward to it!
  15. we got free washer fluid at the Chiefs game last night, but it was for Matt Avery striking out a Cedar Rapids guy. I now have enough coupons for washer fluid that I'm considering using them as wrapping paper at the holidays :)
  16. Greetings all! Just spotted this story in Baseball America on Harvey's 4 HR night... http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/news/262082.html Mostly upbeat, but at the end, this summed it up for me:
  17. one of the more interesting things to see at the Chiefs game was watching 7'1" Ryan Doherty pitch. After the game, Ryan Norwood was saying Doherty wasn't that fast (less than 90 on the fastball), but his height meant that the pitch came so much more quickly that it was tough to pick up. It was kinda crazy, because with his stride and long arms, the ball is practically half-way home before he even lets go. BTW, it was freaking *hot* at the game.
  18. yipee! the Chiefs will have an off day this Wed before leaving for Lansing and West MI for about a week. Nate will have to give us the scoop from the road :)
  19. Mitch looked better last night than I've seen since the MWL break a few weeks back. Was glad to see it. Gary Hughes was in the stands all 3 games with Wisconsin. Not sure if it's the trade deadline coming up, but I'm also continuing to see a number of scouts in the stands at Chiefs games as well (I counted 3 guns beyond the pitchers doing their regular charting last night) It's going to be brutal over the next couple of days - especially Sunday, where the Chiefs are scheduled to play at 2pm in 95 degree, 90+% humidity. Ack.
  20. Jim normally opts for the Hawaii shirt when in Jackson. that's pretty well what it was - I was guessing Tommy Bahama or something like it. Still....ick.
  21. when I was thinking of Atkins vs Veal, I was thinking about 1/2way through the Chiefs season, which was a couple of weeks ago. As of the MWL all-star game, Atkins had been better. Perhaps I didn't draw my line in the right place...he has certainly struggled in the 2nd half and Donnie's been great.
  22. I certainly thought about it, or perhaps "accidentally" tripping him up the stairs O:) . I just gave him a look - you know the one..."you @#$%#$ how do you mess a team up so badly" that one.
  23. The loss for the Chiefs was depressing this evening. They looked as bad as I've seen all season. Not quite sure how Yusef Carter got player of the game - as his defense was *horrible* in center tonight. There were a couple of balls he clearly should have caught and one that should have been a single or double instead of a triple. He seems much more comfortable in right. Hendry and Gary Hughes were there tonight. They were sitting 3 rows in front of me or so. At first I thought "wow, that guy looks like Jim Hendry" then did a double take. I was surprised at how sloppy he looked. Granted he was in Peoria, but he was in a button down shirt that hadn't been ironed in a while (with the top 3 buttons of the shirt undone :pukel: ) If anyone sees him try and leave Chicago again, stop him. We don't want his help down here. He obviously has bad mojo.
  24. In the first half, Atkins was much more consistent throwing strikes. Veal walked a lot of guys and was consistently in trouble, especially at the beginning of the season.
  25. it's currrently raining in Peoria. And muggy and gross outside. I might have to go home and listen to Nate on the radio tonight, if we play at all.
