  1. Fuld started slow last year, then tore it up the rest of the summer. Looks like he's doing the same this year....only his slow start was shorter than last years. I like it! I'm thinking that Daytona needs to play at 10:30am every day if Sam can keep up days like that! Seriously, though, he had a tough April/May last year because he was coming off of shoulder surgery he had after the college world series...that's why he didn't play in Boise in 2004. He hadn't played in a while, if I remember right. He has a lot of good baseball sense...*and* an econ degree from Stanford. A good head on the shoulders goes a long way, I think. :) Karen
  2. Just as a heads-up, the Chiefs - Dayton game is at 7pm EASTERN, so 6pm central for those that might want to tune in to Nathan. :) Karen
  3. I thought Donnie Veal looked *great* for Peoria tonight. Craig mentioned the highlights, but the thing I was most impressed with was the number of strikes he was throwing. Before tonight, he was going deep into many counts, and did so in several innings. Tonight he had one tougher inning, but came back the next inning and snapped out of it. Hope to see much, much more this season! The other person that impressed me tonight was our new 3rd baseman, Kyle Reynolds. He was 4 for 4 at the plate, but also snagged a ball from 3rd and made a heck of a throw to 2nd to start a double play. The energy was great at the ballpark tonight. Go Chiefs! :) Karen
  4. I tried to warn you without being unfair to the others competing with you. d'oh! the funny thing about that is I read it - but didn't realize I was in 2nd. I hadn't checked in a few days (obviously) and assumed that there were many ahead of me. that's alright - the season is young.
  5. d'oh - sorry everyone. how the heck did I miss that?!? no one tell Nate, OK?
  6. chiefs win 5-2 on a no-hit inning by Campusano... woo hoo! Karen
  7. yipee! rocket, you made my night. OK, that was sad just then...please excuse me while I go give a smooch to my husband. have a good night all! Karen
  8. anyone willing to kick me in the shins? I have a 7 game streak going and just realized that I forgot to pick today @#$%#$ darn! woe is me... I guess that's alright...the Chiefs are winning so far! Karen
  9. I'd be happy to help as well =) Karen
  10. We found it in Clinton, IA last year I think. We've gotten 5-6 issues at this point and have been very pleased with the stories - they've been great. The 3 month free trial will hook you! Karen
  11. Hi All! Got my May copy of At the Yard yesterday, and thought I would mention a couple of Cub-related items: 1) "Cubby and the Daytona Cubs", starting on p.11 2) "Catching a Break", starting on p.46 (discussing catching opportunities of Fox, Reyes, & Soto during the WBC) http://www.attheyard.com Good stuff :) Karen
  12. It's not walkable, but your hotel does offer a 24-hour shuttle service to the airport according to its website. The shuttles that drop you off at the airport drop you off directly above the O'Hare El stop. Just look for the overhead signs, they'll tell you how to get from the bus/shuttle center to the train station. If you want to walk to an El stop your best bet is to find a hotel closer to the Rosement station. It's on N River Road, and there are at least a couple hotels within a few blocks of that stop. As I mentioned before, we have stayed in Rosemont a number of times, and the Best Western is not really near the Rosemont stop - from there it would be better to take the free shuttle to the airport, then catch things there. If you would rather use the Rosemont station, the couple of hotels that are fairly near there (that we've stayed at) are: The Chicago Marriott Suites (probably the closest) Westin O'Hare Embassy Suites None of these places are cheap, but they are nice. Have a great trip! :)
  13. score is 1-0 after Johnston scores on a passed ball - go chiefs!
  14. http://www.news-journalonline.com/NewsJournalOnline/Sports/Headlines/sptCUBS01040906.htm from the Daytona Beach News-Journal: thought you all might be interested in this from 4/9 hope all is well with him soon! Karen
  15. Hi All! Was messing around with something else today and found some functionality that was kind of handy on weather.com...there's a spot that will allow you to see all games (and the forecasts) for a particular team. So, here you go: Boise Hawks Peoria Chiefs Daytona Cubs Tennessee Smokies Iowa Cubs Edited this post to add Boise- these are handy links!!!
  16. we can in fact get 720 in Peoria, but here are a couple of others (depending on your route) Clinton (IL, just south of Bloomington) WHOW-AM 1590 Peoria WWFS-AM 1290 Springfield WFMB-AM 1450 full listing here: http://www.tribuneradio.com/cubsaffilliates.htm or...XM radio will always give you great reception O:) (can you tell I love my XM?!?) Have a safe trip! Karen
  17. Depending on the scheduling, KalarMac and I would be interested as well. We were talking about potentially doing some sort of road trip to TN with a few other folks from booster club anyway. We do a lot of road trips with the Chiefs when they're not too far (Clinton, KC, Beloit, QC), but in taking a quick look at the schedule, a couple of days that look like possibilities are: Saturday 3 June vs. TN Smokies (7:05pm) Sunday 20 August vs. Mobile Bay Bears (4:05pm) - I'm working on an MBA on the weekends and have class Saturday until 4pm, but if we drove 1/2way on Saturday and the rest of the way Sunday, this would be do-able. The rest of the time (for us anyway), the Chiefs are in town or the Diamond Jaxx are on the road. Great idea! I know these are just a couple of days, so if it's not possible to swing either, I'll understand :) Best, Karen
  18. was talking to Mark Reed last night, and I was pretty sure he said that Anthony Granato got released as well...
  19. OK, after such a stellar performance on Monday, I thought I would be golden with Mr. Murton today. *sigh* silly me. With that my 2(!) game streak has ended and I'm back to the big goose-egg. I could still win the rest of the season, right?!? have a good wednesday all... Karen
  20. I had problems joining at first too, but if you go in and type instead of cutting and pasting, that's what seemed to do it for me. Also, everything is case sensitive, so be sure to type just as it appears on p.1 good luck! Karen
