  1. while I'm sure Yusef is a very strong guy, you don't really notice until he smacks one out of the park. Norwood (along with most of the pitching staff) *looks* to be the strongest. Most of them, Norwood especially, have narrow waists and huge shoulders, so they look like inverted triangles. I can still remember being at spring training and seeing Norwood in one of those clingy under armor type shirts and saying "daaaaannng" Sorry girls, he's engaged ;) Regarding Taylor and Avery, I'd guess that Avery may throw a bit harder, and each has excellent control. Taylor looked really great last night, making it through 8 innings and not keeling over toward the end. He looked strong. Avery's taken on the closer role since Campy left for West Tenn, so he doesn't necessarily need the stamina (or needs it differently, potentially having to throw several nights in a row) I can tell you that on Wednesday night, there must have been 10 radar guns behind the plate - there were a bunch of scouts, and with Clinton's team this year, a good number of them had to be there to see the Chiefs.
  2. the very brief inning or so I heard on XM was good announcer-wise. Joe Castellano and Rob Dibble - Rob's always entertaining to hear comment on a game, and he still seemed to have a clue about some of the prospect talent out there. Didn't hear the whole thing and forgot to set my TiVo. How did EPatt end up doing?!?
  3. Everything I've personally seen of Jody has been really positive - he's very patient with the fans and always has something interesting to say to Ryan Ori (the newspaper guy) Nate certainly spends more time around him than I do as a fan, but in talking with the other players, they seem to have nothing but the upmost respect for him - he keeps the clubhouse loose and understands the grind of a full season, something a lot of these guys are experiencing for the first time. Guys seem to be working through stuff and getting better at bat and in the field, so that must mean Jody's doing his job. We've had more promotions up this year already than I think we did until the *very* end of last season, so if that's a barometer of success, he's doing well. That said, I'm not sure if he would be the right guy to replace Dusty...on the other hand, with the Ozzie Guillen factor on the other side of town, maybe he'd be perfect.
  4. as they will be in Beloit tonight, I would guess that Matt Weber (originally from Rockford) will have as many fans in the stands as the entire Beloit team will. Well, it's Friday night, so maybe not, but I bet there will be a lot of folks there rooting for the Chiefs.
  5. Mark played first last night to give Norwood a night off, so you should get to see him behind the plate. Yusef hit a homer in Thursday night's game too, and it shouldn't be too hard to get a seat up at the stadium in Beloit. Have a great time!
  6. alright, I obviously didn't look hard enough - looks like he had a slightly bulged disc in his back: http://cubs.scout.com/2/543755.html He's expected back any day now.
  7. Hi all! Was noticing the lack of Sam Fuld in the box scores at Daytona over the last few days, investigated a bit, and he hasn't played since 6/21. The Daytona transactions page shows that he was put on the DL on 6/24. Anyone know what happened? I don't remember reading about it here. A tough loss for Daytona, and it explains a whole bunch on why Matt Ciaramella was with the Chiefs one day and promoted the next. Enquiring minds want to know! :)
  8. thanks much for the news...we'll miss Brandon, Aubrey and Oakley while they're in Mesa. Brandon seemed to have a great glove defensively at 3rd. Hopefully he'll be back soon. Getting down to only 22 on the roster has got to be tough, hopefully they'll be back to full strength soon.
  9. looks like Peoria is also getting Nate Price in the outfield: http://www.peoriachiefs.com/news/?id=6072 not quite sure why that happened - we lost Mota (infield) and Muyco (catcher - replaced by Farina), and currently have Garcia, Carter, Valdez, Gregg, and Ciaramella in the outfield. 6 seems like too many folks...perhaps Garcia's going back to playing more 1st? The other thing I'm unsure of is if the catcher shift is just for the time that Barrett is serving his suspension, or whether this will be the way things look moving forward. We'll see how things shake out.
  10. when the Chiefs had that tragic time affiliated with the Cardinals, I had this conversation in my head. Here's what I came up with: at low-A, if guys get to the big show at all, the likelihood that it's with the same team isn't always true. For instance, Daric Barton spent his season with us before getting traded to the A's. I'm more than happy to root for the A's . Jason Burch, same thing...he was a reliever who spent a year with us before getting traded to the Rockies organization. Someday, this might very well happen with a current Chief that ends up somewhere else. I'll be pulling for him, no matter where he ends up. As with everything in life, there are great guys on these teams, and you know, whether they're playing baseball or doing something else, they're going to be successful because they're good people (Aaron Smith from last year's Chiefs comes to mind)
  11. for those of you who might be interested in seeing more pics of the Chiefs at Wrigley Field on 6/16... thanks for getting these up so quickly Nate! :) http://www.peoriachiefs.com/multimedia/photos/index.php?cat_id=322
  12. Oscar just showed he can still put a tag on though. Too bad the ball got there a little late.
  13. The Radisson Peoria is the hotel the Chiefs put the guys up in at the beginning of the season. If you call them directly, you might be able to get a deal? The address is 117 Western Ave, Peoria, IL 61604, phone 309-673-8040 (this is a newly renovated spot - used to be the Jumers in town). Another good couple of spots that are pretty close: The Staybridge Suites is very near the park (a long walk), but not to much else The final suggestion I have (although there are plenty more hotels in Peoria), is the Mark Twain. It's several blocks down Adams St from the park, but is where many folks Caterpillar hosts stay, so I think it's pretty nice since their massive renovation a couple of years ago. For a full listing of lodgings, the Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau has a pretty extensive listing. If you are wondering about a specific place, feel free to PM me and I'd be happy to let you know what it's like, neighborhood, etc.[/url]
  14. who knows if Mota will stay in that role permanently. It may be purely a situational thing, I'm not sure, but he does have a decent amount of work to do compared to our other infielders at this point.
  15. The word I heard at the game this afternoon was that Mota was going to be going up to be a bench guy, only playing about every 5th game or so. Given this, it makes more sense that he goes than Chirinos, who is thriving playing every day (and Mota hasn't been playing in Peoria more than about every 3 days or so here...)
  16. Congratulations to all the players getting promotions today...from the reading here and day-to-day watching, I know they are certainly well deserved. I'm really glad that Campy gets to pitch in the all-star game on Tuesday, though. We'll miss him here a bunch. After his injury last year, he's really bounced back to be great. We'll be at the MWL All-Star Game in Davenport on Tuesday. My husband's already starting to talk about Jim's Rib Haven. Hopefully we'll get some good pictures and a great game :)
  17. For those of you who are ESPN Insiders, you can also get ESPN the mag online...the specific issue with Z in it is here: http://mag.espn.go.com/ActiveMagazine/getbook.asp?Path=ESP/2006/06/19&bookcollection=ESPN_AM
  18. my husband and I were also there for the game tonight and it was a thrill to watch the Chiefs play. They gave up 4 early, and we thought we were in for a long night, but the Chiefs came right back While I know it's not considered "stylish" or that somehow winning doesn't matter at this level, but I can tell you that winning meant a whole bunch to the group of guys out there tonight. They actually clinched tonight - as we're in Kane County and that put us up 2 games ahead of them with just one to play tomorrow. It's my opinion that, somewhere in the Cubs organization, we need to get used to winning a bit - perhaps it will be contagious and catch on as these guys move up. Keep up the good work, Chiefs - I'd love to see the sweep tomorrow!
  19. I can remember that the pitchers took BP on Sunday in Peoria last year, and there were a couple of times that Sean was strutting afterward because he crushed a few. They *loved* Sundays! I'm sad that I'll be on a plane and won't get to hear all of the game tonight. I'll echo Serena - GO CHIEFS!!! One cool thing that I don't think got mentioned here yet - Jody set up a Wrigley tour and (good) seats to the game this afternoon. In fact, I think I remember hearing that they were going to shag BP. A pretty sweet reward for the success over the first half, and hopefully some good motivation moving forward too. They left Naperville about 8:30 this morning and are going straight from ballpark to ballpark.
  20. chiefs back on top 2-1 after a sac fly to plate norwood by ciaramella
  21. Nate just mentioned that Scott Williamson will be pitching an inning in relief tonight - he's not sure when, but sounds like a great thing for the Chiefs tonight.
  22. from the Boise Hawks website: Based on this, I wouldn't be that sure MiLB's rosters are quite right yet. I would bet that the Boise website and local newspaper will be better sources in the short-term anyway.
  23. whoops - I wasn't even thinking - the picture was copyrighted, so they pulled it (rightfully so). d'oh. it was styling though :)
  24. sorry, didn't mean to take a shot at Naperville - it's a perfectly lovely place, actually. It was more a shot at Best Western...last year we stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn just up the road from the stadium, but it was full back in March when I tried to book the room.
  25. Derwood - just for you... ** you'll have to trust me here - I created a really cool t-shirt on zazzle.com, but I was a bonehead because the picture was copyrighted. zazzle pulled my design** #-o I should know better.
