  1. I like watching it just because there is always one guy who flips out and hits 10 500 foot bombs in a row.
  2. Haha, Corey is going to strikeout and everyone is going to throw a fit.
  3. Forget it Vance, he's just trolling.
  4. He's only average in leftfield. His speed covers up his bad routes, a la Corey Patterson.
  5. Haha boy, i sure did crack up the first 8 times you did this.
  6. Well, I guess he was just tired when he left the game, stupid espnews.
  7. You'll probably post a few times, flip out in a thread in "rivalries" and get banned. Wait, did you mean on the field or on this board?
  8. We scored runs and we werent playing the worst team in the league? Go away, we're relishing not being the only team that sucked today. Boo hoo hoo.
  9. *INSERT "hey it's hard to get up for the Rockies" or "The players were still upset over ESPN moving their game-time" COMMENT HERE*
  10. UPDATE 2005 So, Beckett is pitching great all year, gets another blister, goes on the dl, and comes back tonight, pitches great, and leaves the game with another blister. Hahahah, he's so worthless. What the hell is going on? PEE ON YOUR HANDS MORON.
  11. i couldnt care less. I never can force myself to watch the whole all-star game anyway.
  12. I'm in a league with some friends of mine, and I'm killing everyone. It's not even close. So I like to propose trades for the hell of it, most times on a whim. Sometimes I propose the trades, and the other team never declines it. I look at it like a week later and I say "wtf was I thinking?" Anyway, I proposed this trade the other day, Felipe Lopez and Garland for Prior. Basically the reason I did it is because I've never had Prior before, and I've been trying to trade Garland all year, thinking he's going to fall off. Obviously, he probably wont, at this point, but still PRIOR. Anyway, this trade, coupled with putting Ollie on the DL allowed me to add Prior, Wood and Haren. Prior/Wood/Haren>Lopez/Garland? Da Treeman says yes, I say yes, WHAT SAY YOU?
  13. I still think he finishes at around .330. History is filled with hitters who came out of nowhere to hit around .400 for half the year before hitting .250 or something in the second half.
  14. Clement is doing better because his numbers are all basically the same, except he's giving up fewer HR's this year, which has nothing to do with clubhouse environment (he loved it in Chicago and he loved the other pitchers on our staff) Quick, who do you want Player A who has 9 wins in 16 starts or Player B who has 4 wins in 15 starts Player A right? I mean, after all, "Wins are a measure of skill, comfortability, and the ability to keep your team in a game no matter how their offense is doing in that particular game" Well good job buddy, you just picked Doug Davis over Carlos Zambrano.
  15. Is anybody on this team (their contract - 300K) better than one of our replacements in AAA besides Ramirez and Lee? Should we toss them all overboard and go with nothing but prospects? The money has to be spent somewhere, and in that offseason the only other spot to fill it on would've been SS. The only good SS out there iirc was Tejada, and iirc, there were a lot of people around here that didn't want him at that price either because of his iffy OBP. And I think people are underestimating what Maddux did last year. A 113 ERA+ from a starter is not close to mediocre. Im not saying play every position on the cheap, im saying there is no need to spend all of our money on a strength and ignore our weaknesses. You know I'm not saying that, so cut it out. If, in the offseason, it turns out that there were no possible upgrades available, and 9 million spent on Maddux is the best value for the money, I'll happily eat crow, because I love Maddux and I love watching him pitch. To elaborate on my feelings, the 2/12 part of the contract I have no problem with. its the 1/9 on the end that I hate. I think if it came down to the contract, as is, or no contract at all, then I would have declined.
  16. Update A lot of people want Billy Wagner for closer next season. But BJ Ryan is Billy Wagner, ON STEROIDS Both have pitched 34.2 innings this season. Both have 18 saves. BJ has give up 26 hits, Billy has given up 25. BJ has given up 7 runs this season. 7! Billy has given up 10. BJ has only given up 4 homeruns, to Billy's 5. Both BJ and Billy have walked 9 batters. The difference is, while Billy has struck out 33, and has a nice 3.7k/bb ratio BJ has struck out 55, and has a nicer 6.1k/bb ratio.
  17. Not wanting Maddux on the team next year has nothing to do with how he has pitched in the past, including 05 and 04. I would rather pocket that 9 million and try to put it towards a weakness (relief, outfield, whatever) than spend it on a strength. The reason I'm not mad about the Nomar and Wood deals is because they were smart deals that didnt pan out. Wood looked like a future star that was over his injury risks and Nomar signed an incentive laden deal to be the shortstop that we have never had. Maddux's third year is stupid and unnecessary. No I'm not angry about Dubois? I'm upset he hasnt really produced, whether you want to place the blame for that on Dusty or on him is up to you, but the fact is, to date, neither he or Hollandsworth has produced in left field. I never said Maddux isnt the reason we didnt sign Drew, but Maddux on the team next year is going to really hinder signing/trading for an outfielder in 06.
  18. You honestly believe that even with the fact that Maddux's ERA, though rising the past few years, is still better than those two guys? And the fact that's he's well on his way to another 15+ win season while those two can't put back to back good starts together? You'd honestly feel more comfortable in our chances of winning with them on the mound than Greg Maddux? I don't even know why I'm still in this discussion. It's bordering on insanity. Yes, I do feel more comfortable with those 2, because they aren't going to be much worse(if not better) than Maddux, while we have 9 million more to improve elsewhere. That's the difference between a J.D. Drew, and a Danny Bautista, to pull 2 names out of thin air. JD Drew is being paid MORE than Maddux to underproduce. Are you sure you don't want to rethink that? The point is, do you want Maddux and Denny Bautista, or Mitre/Hill/Williams and Drew? Considering we can have both, I'm not sure what the point of this question is. Hahah, really? Because I see Dubois and Hollandsworth sucking it up right now. Next year, 9 million dollars is going to go into Maddux's pocket. That is likely to be around 1/10th of our payroll. Are you ok with spending 1/10th of our payroll on a 4+ ERA, when we could get the same thing for 900k from the trio of kids? I'm not.
  19. The point of pitching is to keep people from scoring, something that the group of Hill/Williams/Mitre can do much more economically. Well, when those guys start doing that, let me know. For now, we're going to have to agree to disagree. Disagree all you want, it's true. It would be helpful for the team next year if those guys pitched instead of Maddux. Dont believe it if you dont want to, but it's true. And this is coming from a huge Maddux fan.

  22. Will he be 8.7 million dollars better? Nope.
  23. It's a nice checkerboard pattern.
  24. len praised the dunn during the broadcast today! I heard that, my heart skipped a beat.
