    As who promised? Some NSBB folks? Rhodes is a respectable arm that Philly needs. Michaels is a spare bench player. Rhodes, like all relievers, is inconsistant. Michaels is a spare bench player with a .380 career OBP. If the Cubs had a lineup full of "spare bench players," they'd have one of the better offenses in the league. The fact that the Phillies are settling on Arthor Rhodes for Michaels, tells you the value Jason Michaels has around baseball. He couldn't beat out the likes of Glanville, Ledee, and Bryd, for goodness sakes. And that decision making got the Phillies what? A new GM? So Jason Michaels is the reason Wade and Bowa aren't there any longer? Decision making, not just that singular decision. I know youre just dying to argue, but at least read what he said. What do you think?

    You're the first person to say this. I'll say this, maybe Michaels does have some glaring deficiency that none of us have noticed, but maybe he doesnt, and the upshot is that he is better than Juan Pierre (hell, better than most CF in baseball), and all it costs to find out is Arthur Rhodes.

    When the teams are close in terms of talent, Pistons. Knicks are up there, too. Bouncing the Knicks out of the playoffs was a Chicago Spring tradition not too long ago. Cavs too, for that matter. :D The Bulls vs Pacers games towards the end of Jordan's Bulls career were the most entertaining basketball games I have ever seen.

    I'm not so sure. Ponson could be healthier since it's hard to miss time with pulled fat. I got $100 that says that pulled fat wins more games than Kerry Wood this year. Make it ERA+ and you might have a deal. Wins are a poor indicator of pitching performance. How about VORP since it takes in account the number of innings pitched? I say loser has to upload a high quality picture of himself in the oppositions hat. Oh and no defacing that hat either. :wink: You actually think Ponson will have a higher VORP than Wood. But how about a better bet. If Wood has a higher VORP you purchase me the Cubs hat of my choice, if Ponson has the higher VORP, I'll purchase you the Cards hat of your choice. Nah, what I really want you in my sig with a cards hat on. :twisted: How about VORP with Millar and Poson? We should split this off to the rivalries section. We should come up with several friendly "bets" for the season. Card posters vs Cub posters. Speaking of, we doing fantasy baseball this year? im in if we do it this year

    If we had an offense the caliber of the Red Sox, I could accept a Neifi at SS. If you blow your financial wad on offense, like the Red Sox have, you can afford to have a bit of a mess on your hands at a position like short stop, where you pay for defense only. Unfortunately for us, we have a mess on our hands everywhere.

    If the Cubs acquired Lugo (and his $4.95M contract) without shedding any salary of their own, it would probably prevent them from being able to sign Weaver, especially if the payroll is $100M. FWIW, reports say that Hendry expects the payroll to exceed 100M. I also think it's fair to say that they would shed some payroll in acquiring Lugo (if it comes to that). Plus, Walker's days seem limited. God, this has to be the worst collection of 100 million+ talent ever. No team with a 100 million+ payroll should have an outfield of Murton/Pierre/Jones. Pierre will maybe be better than average, but Murton and Jones have to be top 5 in the "worst group of corner outfielders". How can a team have Prior and Zambrano making relatively little, a group of 3 middle infielders making somewhere around 6 million, a rookie corner outfielder, an MVP candidate at first base making what, 8 million, and still come up with 100+ million?

    Michaels 3-Year .278/.361/.411/.772 vs right 3-Year .323/.426/.483/.909 vs left Pierre's best outside of colorado season .311/.346/.364/.710 vs left .303/.368/.377/.745 vs right Philly didnt want to play him, that's their problem. "He's losing his mind, and im reaping all the benefits!" Or at least we should have.

    How so? Hairston made some good catches last season, but they sometimes occured after he fell down or ran in the wrong direction first. :) Hairston didn't botch as many plays as Murton did. Keep in mind I said Hairston was not a great defensive outfielder, but a solid one. Murton will get better defensively as he gains experience. However, I won't have any problem with Baker putting Hairston in for Murton late in games for defense. He might be better than Murton, but to say that he is better than Jones is ridiculous. Jones glove is his only redeeming quality.

    If one of those players nets Michaels, I'll never understand why we didnt end up with him. No sane person would prefer Pierre to Michaels.

    He shouldnt be hitting anywhere that isnt 8th (except in April and May), he shouldnt be making 2.5 mil a year, he shouldnt be the first pinch hitter off the bench (unless it's April or May). It has nothing to do with fantasy baseball (give me a break) or Moneyball (give me a break x 2), or thinking that yourself could gm a baseball team, it has to do with him being an all glove, no bat short stop. Let's see what happens if Neifi hits this season exactly like he did last season, except that instead of being great in April/May, he hits up to his usual standards, that would probably rank him in the bottom one or two SS in the league, and I cant imagine anyone coming out of the woodwork to defend him then, no matter how misguided.

    Can you show me where guys considering ND were roomed with ND commits? Before the AA game there were only about 3 available spots left and Young and McCoy were the only ones who hadn't committed that were seriously considering ND. Well I have to admit that I just heard that, but here are the comments from Myron Rolle, one of the top recruits in the country this year: Lorenzo Booker said that Lemming made similary comments to him. Rolle and Booker both ended up at FSU, the Criminoles should love that guy!

    they have a bias against teams that do dumb stuff. some of their writers are even cub fans. Like sign Esteban Loaiza? i dont know if you read bp, but most of the writers there did indeed criticize the a's for the move. IMO the reaction would have been much more critical if Hendry had made the same deal. Do you even read BP?

    Ya know what? On some level I agree with you. I was a little surprised to see Bobby Hill let go. He's everything Jim Tracy said he wants - a guy who can put the ball into play. Mack-O-Whack: It hurt to trade him, but a couple things come up. First, he's too streaky. He does much better as a spot starter (or even a few starts in a row) than being an everyday player. And, he strikes out too much. Not that I'd want to trade him, per se. But, I thought we got good value from him in Marte. Left Handed relievers don't come cheap. And my soon to be 5 year old loves saying his name (I've been taking her to games since she was 3 month old!) As for Sanchez - on the last Friday night home game, one of our local talking heads, Paul Alexander (who was fired last month as part of a station overhaul) had his booth set up out side of PNC Park. I asked him if he thought Freddy could compete with Jose for the everyday starting position for the upcoming season. He said to me: Two things come to mind here: Castillo hasn't been very healthy his first two seasons; and he has to hit both more HRs and for higher average. I'd bet Freddy is going to get at least 40 starts at second, 20 each at short and third. Caveat about third: Jose Bautista lights it up in Indy and plays his way onto the team. I think Getting rid of Bobby Hill was a bit shortsighted. No, he'll never be a star, but he can hit off of the bench and play 2nd & third. He'd have been behind Sanchez, to be sure. We have this guy who played 6 positions at Indy, Yuerendall DeCaster. It might his play that prompted the trade of Hill? Does the talking head know that Jason Bay is still on Pittsburgh? Thats what I was gonna say, maybe he was talking about the Penguins

    Firstly, Mega Lounge Love to da Len Secondovely, how do you prefer Brenly, with the "Fu-Manchu-Tombstone mustache", or with the "Youth Pastor-Boring" mustache? Thirdly, are you upset that Arrested Development had its episode order shortened? Where do you think it ends up, Showtime or ABC? Fourthly, did you get a chance to catch any of "The Comedians of Comedy" when it was running on Comedy Central? And, if so, what do you think of Zach Galifinakis? Fifthly, do you consider "Worlds coolest daddy" a job? Thanks Len
