  1. Lmao go read his chat today and count how many times he answered an honest question with some rude [expletive] answer (or twitter slang a 40 year old single dad prospect expert) shouldn’t be using. I know you have to be somewhere on the spectrum to receive money to talk about baseball prospects but god this guy sucks
  2. We have the same amount of players as them projected for 3+ WAR (KB, Rizzo, Javy And Schwarbs vs Goldschmidt, Dejong, Carpenter and Ozuna) more than them over 4 (Rizzo And KB vs Goldschmidt) and the only one at 5+ in KB. We also project for more offensive WAR 28.1 vs 25.8 and their entire rotation is full of question marks. Martinez, Wacha and Reyes off injuries (all 3 have been hurt every year the last few years as well), Wainwright’s corpse, Flaherty (who I think is good) and Mikolas who are a bit unproven. Idk, they have more question marks than us in the rotation. Probably more upside but more downside and volatility. Imo. Carpenter at 3B could be a disaster as well, he can’t really throw and Ozuna is coming off a shoulder surgery and allegedly is behind for swinging and throwing already. quit trying to make me feel better
  3. what do you disagree with in that assessment
  4. I've fallen into my yearly early season trap of discounting the brewers, but the cardinals kinda freak me out. Their offense is stacked and I think fangraphs is unnecessarily low on their pitching. Until we sign Harper or machado and/or see a healthy bryant in spring training, the cardinals may be the nl central faves
  5. crazy that it was like 4 months ago we all assumed that was just a foregone conclusion
  6. All of this is true. It's also true that Bryant has reached that level in every season in which he was "fully" healthy and also was on pace to go well past 6 WAR last year before the injury. It's possible that the injury will limit the finish on his swing going forward and that his results dip as a result. But I'll take bets on the gap between his 2018 and 2019 more than offsetting the dip in Javy's, assuming KB and Javy each play in 145+ games. Any of you doom bonering people want to wager? i actually have more faith in javy not dipping *that* much than i do in Bryant getting back to 2016-17 levels of production right now
  7. if kb is healthy that's great, but rest didn't help last year and it's not like he was out with a hamstring injury, it was a shoulder thing. look over in RF if you don't think those can have a longterm impact on your swing/power heyward is 100 percent healthy, but the shoulder injury lowered the bar for what he could accomplish when healthy. and even if everything *is* 100 percent cool, (by my count) only 4 players (McCutcheon, Miguel Cabrera, Trout and Votto) have posted more than three 6 WAR seasons since 2010 (Bryant has 3.) So it's not like it's some sure deal that he ever reaches that level again even if 100 percent healthy. I mean everyone is upset because we aren't giving $300 million to Harper (we should) and he only has 1 6-WAR season to his credit.
  8. i love a good bitch fest as much as anyone but you realize that these have been the biggest FA signings since 2015? like there hasn't been an FU free agent yet. Not that it excuses us from not going after harper and machado but we've gotten two of the biggest signings of the last three offseasons. I'd even argue that Darvish was an FU signing. heyward price greinke cespedes Edwin Encarnacion Justin Turner Darvish JD martinez Lorenzo Cain????
  9. my best post ever dont know why i dont have a job in the cubs FO
  10. i went to find the lester thread and on the first page you have TT arguing that we should target Kenta Maeda instead. I love this forum.
  11. man i dont know what has to happen to you to think that the lester signing was boring, even in retrospect. i feel like when that signing went down we all knew it meant we were finally serious and about to start winning a lot of games.
  12. Without the Lester signing, none of the 2015-2018 stuff happens IMO so it's far from a snore. It's the most consequential FA signing in team history
  13. what the horsefeathers
  14. 2004 was way worse. They (had to) blow up the teams from 2003-2004 and you knew the 2005 team had no chance of being competitive. It was a surrender year after two years of relevance. Us deciding not to be heads and shoulders above the rest of the NL but still very likely a playoff caliber team does not match up to that. Hell no, this is worse because the roster is built on such a strong foundation and they are choosing not to supplement it because they know it won't hurt their bottom line. Those mid 2000s teams were built on such a shoddy foundation that choosing to not keep adding old FAs to the roster was just the latest in a long line of indignities. this is ownership treating the team like a bank. why spend 250 million on a player when we're going to make $x amount of dollars regardless.
  15. good god, george kontos is "a really nice signing." horsefeathers right off
  16. complete proof that he missed the entire 2018 season
  17. Baby (bears [the chicago cubs]) got Brach!
  18. hopefully he goes "brach" to the future and finds the fountain of youth and rejuvenates his career!
  19. Less about Pomeranz in particular, but any buy low candidate is going to be low for a good reason. You don't have to bank on 200 IP from Pomeranz or his proxy, but you also have internal options(Start Montgomery) and buy low options are easier to stack for cheap too. im with you. we know how slow the market moves now, why spend 99 percent of your FA budget on Day One on 53-year old Cole Hamels when you could wait the market out and get 75 percent of whatever value he'll provide for pennies on the dollar in January or February again, cole hamels is bad, and i feel like im on the right side of history by saying so edit: Hamels, despite being mostly otherworldly with the cubs, was worth the same WAR last year as clay bucholz (who pitched 16 games.) How much is Bucholz getting this year, because it sure isn't gonna be twenty fuggen million.
  20. horsefeathering cracking up that tom is worried about doing ct scans on pitchers for health reasons. jesus christ it makes so much sense.
  21. I remember asking my mom what that meant when I was like 10 and her having to tip toe around the fact that John wrote that in a haze of acid The story I’ve heard is that Lennon was annoyed that Bob Dylan wrote some popular songs that had nonsensical lyrics, so this was him writing the most random song possible delete the beatles references before omc gets in here
  22. every team has like 6 uniforms now, and that particular Jazz design might be my favorite of the bunch
  23. they had them 3rd and 10 THREE TIMES on that last drive. they deserve to lose.
  24. lol the insult Bryant gave was such low grade horsefeathers anyway. "wow st louis is bad. And it stinks." he was clearly just trying to play to the crowd without actually saying anything too negative. The fact that st louis players took it so personally really tells you what they think of their city lol
