  1. Hahahahhaha oh my god
  2. Dexter Folwer hit a leadoff home run in a Game 7 we ultimately won. He could sign with ISIS and I'd love him forever.
  3. look at it this way, he's only going to be good for probably two years of the contract, and they're not going to be as good as us during that period anyway. Then in the final three years when he's hitting .210 and confined to a COF spot, he'll be soaking up $18m of their payroll.
  4. it's nothing like that really Sure it is No
  5. It's over, motherhorsefeathers :(
  6. I'm surprised Polanco was a net zero on defense. Damn. But there you go. And baserunning too
  7. Searching for guys who were net zeroes on defense last year, I came up with Mike Trout (lol), Johnathan Schoop, and Gregory Polanco Polanco is interesting because his numbers look like what you could hope for from a healthy Soler (.258/.323/.463) and he was worth 2.5 WAR
  8. Yeah, but Trumbo's defense brought that down a lot. We're not counting that. Soler will probably walk more, too. And I don't think Javy can pull off what he did again. That was a freakish and probably flukish defensive contribution. My basic idea here is that Javy had a lot go right (both purposely and accidentally) to get to his WAR total and will be exposed as his role is expanded. I have no idea if what he did defensively is repeatable but I definitely doubt it. (FWIW, I voted Javy, but I think it's a lot closer than this poll result suggests) Oops, I didn't realize that, i was under the impression trumbo was primarily a DH
  9. Mark Trumbo hit 47 bombs last year and finished with 2.2 WAR. Baez had just 450 PA, walked 3 percent of the time (lol) and finished with 2.7. I'm gonna go with Javy
  10. horsefeathers this is a good post
  11. ok but really. is going from rondon/edwards/strop/davis to edwards/strop/davis/chapman(or Jansen) worth $18m a year? Honestly, I don't expect a lot from Strop or Rondon this year. They worry me. And I don't expect the Cubs to go after Jansen because I think they are trying to build Edwards to be the closer for next year with Davis in the helm this year. But yeah, I think another World Series while basically cutting the game down to 6 innings max is worth 18M, if they chose to go that way. going from edwards to jansen doesn't really guarantee a world series i dont think.
  12. I mean it sounds cool but what is that actually worth It's worth $90M from a team about to win back to back World Series and also get their own TV network. ok but really. is going from rondon/edwards/strop/davis to edwards/strop/davis/chapman(or Jansen) worth $18m a year?
  13. There's just not much precedent for closers as dominant and as young as Chapman and Jansen hitting FA. It won't happen, but imagine if the Cubs swooped in on Jansen now. You could basically have hockey lines of elite relievers. I mean it sounds cool but what is that actually worth
  14. Maybe someone can convince me it's smart, but I am absolutely opposed to giving out 5-year contracts to a closer, much less for $90m or whatever.
  15. Yeah if I was a Sox fan I would be freaking thrilled right now. Even given the volatility of pitching prospects, that's a worthy haul for eaton
  16. Yeah, Eaton is the guy who said the white sox "lost a leader" when they lost DRAKE LAROCHE LOL
  17. woah woah woah, the only 6 WAR RF in all of baseball last year were Mookie and Eaton, so I think that's not likely. Also I just learned that Heyward was worth more WAR than Jose Bautista last year.
  18. The chance that Rodon is just no good, and at least one of Gilotio, Lopez, or Kopech are injured is so high that i'm just planning to delight in their fans' tears.
  19. Eaton is really good but so much of it comes from being a good RF, and he's a little fragile. So either he moves to CF and loses value or Bryce does.
  20. holy horsefeathers what
  21. on the other hand, the nats are much closer to us talent wise than the freaking cards are
  22. the NL is gonna be pretty lit next year
  23. If they are really after Otani or Harper, this is the right move. I have loved Jansen for years but $90-$100 million for a closer just sounds like something you look back on and go "oh yeah that was dumb." Part of the reason we won so many games last year was because our SP was awesome, and this is likely the last year or Arrieta, so it makes sense to me to not to go into the season with a questionable pen.
  24. If Soler continues at his current pace, he'll approach Wade Davis' career WAR at some point in 2031.
  25. which portion of soler's 1.5 career WAR will you miss the most
