  1. One reason I'm really excited to get this season started is there are just so many possibilities. Maybe Heyward rebounds and Schwarb hits and Russell takes a step forward and the pitching is still good and KB and Rizzo maintain god status and Javy takes a step forward and we win 105 games or Maybe Heyward still stinks and we have to start really thinking about being stuck with an expensive dead weight, and Schwarb really can't play the OF, and Russell plateus and the pitching has health issues and KB and Rizzo, well, still maintain god status, and Javy's defense takes a step back and we win 90 games. Lmao that's kind of crazy to think about
  2. man he just does not look like someone who should be required to move
  3. harold baines horsefeathering owned.
  4. Absolutely not forced. I hate Atlanta, and I can promise you that everyone around me at the bar last night was cheering for the Pats almost like they were the Saints. It's the fans. Every time they come to town they are the most obnoxious, trash talking bunch of derelicts of any fan base. There are always fights in the Dome with them. The city poses as some LA of the South-the exact opposite of New Orleans. All faux glitz, no substance. Atlanta and their fans are the worst. The hate goes back to the NFC West days. Like I said, looking at it as an outsider it seems forced. By my own arbitrary rules, at the very minimum a good rivalry needs to be between teams who share the same state, or are in states bordering each other. You start skipping states, eh, it feels like reaching. And the fans thing, to this I also say "eh;" Reds fans flood Wrigley, but it feels more like annoyance as opposed to "YEAH, horsefeathers THE REDS." Any rivalry there feels more like a technicality than anything else. Obviously, that's not to say it's not an actual rivalry; it just feels like here in DC when I hear locals talking about the Redskins and the Giants like it's this heated, storied vendetta, and all I can think is, "aw, that's nice." And, as usual, it doesn't matter if any of this applies to college sports, because college sports are dumb. do you even know what you plan on saying when you start typing
  5. I mean i think there's as much a chance that Jiminez is good as there is that heyward rebounds, but i also remember that like 5 years ago bubba starling and brett jackson were top 35 prospects
  6. Yeah, I was just about to mention this. If Heyward does not return to form and continues to struggle the Cubs may have to explore trades in 19' or 20' where they eat most of his contract, especially if E. Jimenez is ready to take over in RF. Kinda sucks that that is a possibility now, but we did get a WS Championship in year 1 of the contract... If he continues to struggle at the plate, yes, they'd have to eat a lot of that contract to move him. Of course, he's even more tradable if he returns to form. Obviously, that's the scenario I'm hoping for. Heyward hits along the lines of his career numbers, remains healthy and continues his GG defense in RF. The Cubs are able to move him with prospects for whatever they need at the time while bringing up Eloy at the league minimum to take his place. The defense takes a big hit, but if Eloy progresses as he has been, the bat makes up for it. The Cubs are able to open up some payroll and fill some needs at the same time. But a lot can happen between now and 2019/2020. It's just something to keep in mind when looking at the Cubs payroll options in the years ahead. if heyward "returns to form" i really dont see the cubs moving him to put Eloy Jiminez in his place. They'd probably just keep the 6 WAR outfielder.
  7. Give it three years...or is it two? I forget 0 chance their deal looks anything like what LA got.
  8. mason jar storm? did jars of clay cover ride the lightning? solid jars of clay ref
  9. Pissed off Molina should have earned this clip extra credit
  10. The top 10 prospects are so down compared to recent years that I can't really fault them for putting gleyber up so high.
  11. I, too, hope that the cubs sign the no. 1 free agent every year for eternity
  12. He's a very good prospect, but you're basically hoping and praying he becomes Placido Polanco. That's no insult, Polanco was very good for a number of years, but that's not the hopes and dreams of someone in the Top 5 of all of baseball. He's high risk of being a second baseman, he had a .775 OPS at High A, and his K rate is high for someone who isn't going to slug like someone like Russell. You don't even really need something to collapse for Torres to be a non-descript major leaguer, just the attrition of his production at the 2 levels he needs to ascend through would do it. When you call someone a top-5 prospect, you're not implying they could or will one day be a top-5 player in the league. I think Law is going off a little recency bias, because Torres tore up the AFL right after a pretty disappointing 30 games for the yankees A+ team. Also I do think there's a little bit of "I can generate happy responses from yankees fans and pissed off responses from cubs fans."
  13. what am i missing with overton? he only spent parts of two years in the minors, cant they just send him back
  14. Probably should take a break on what amounts to Pedro Martinez tweeting about a rumor coming from the DR. Speculation and rumor always goes out of control after a high-profile death – it could be as simple a thing as he lost his ring in the crash and someone going "he was robbed!" and it snowballing from there. It's the DR so anything is possible.
  15. seems like a decent bet to get 180-200 innings out of monty+anderson so cool.
  16. there's no way kyle hendricks eats oreos. He eats oatmeal raisin cookies
  17. glad it's not dozier
  18. ok yeah but the alternative is the patriots
  19. whats wrong with the falcons (besides their horsefeathers uniforms) I dislike them for the same reason so many on this board hate the Packers. I will be pulling for them though. Usually whenever an NFC South team wins the NFC their next year is horrible. oh yeah duh
  20. whats wrong with the falcons (besides their horsefeathers uniforms)
  21. what kind of weirdo says influezna instead of the flu
  22. in more "mike trout is insane" news Vladimir Guerrero (first year on the ballot) missed out on the HoF by 15 votes. If Trout is healthy next year, he should surpass Vlad's lifetime fWAR sometime in August.
