  1. This is the freaking worst. I can think of so many worse things. Non-Cubs baseball related, this pretty much takes the cake. But, you're right, this isn't worse than world hunger or racism.

  3. You mean Tyson put together a nice career, right? Tyrus was a total bust. Chandler ended up becoming a useful center, but he never came close to Elton Brand in his prime. And he certainly wasn't "the next KG". Brand continued to dominate every single year until he got hurt. yeah you beat my edit by like 2 seconds. i meant tyson, of course. i don't see how "the next KG" thing is at all relevant...yeah, i'd take brand's career. never said i wouldn't...but for the sake of argument, elton has had 109.6 win shares in 1058 games, and tyson has had 92.7 in 986. so while elton was the better player with the better career, i think there's probably a serious case to be made that tyson closed the gap quite a bit after all was said and done. definitely more than just a useful player in his prime. Also, how many of those Win Shares for Brand came with the Bulls? Factoring in just the years after the trade, Tyson was probably better than Brand.
  4. This column was written by a minority? He'll be run out of St. Louis by the end of the week. [tweet]https://twitter.com/OrtizKicks/status/741430279022116864[/tweet] Bahahaha. horsefeathers that town. Really wishing for some sort of super-tornado to wipe out the entire region.

  6. I don't think they're going to go with one backup infielder. With Fowler back, the easiest option is like David said, to option Almora. You lose a small bit in using Szczur as a LF defensive replacement for Soler/Contreras, but with Szczur hitting LHP and Fowler not getting moved off CF, it is only that, a small bit. That buys you until next Spring to decide whether Szczur stays or goes, and keeping him as org depth is a nice option to have in an offseason where the OF is in a bit of flux. Coghlan can play the IF in a pinch and Contreras could probably handle 1B as well if you need him to. Maximum, it would be 1 game if there were an injury of some sort. You don't just release Szczur (out of options and no way does he clear waivers) because you don't want to send LaStella down. The risk/reward just isn't there. If you have to, you go with a light bullpen for a few games. You potentially have to send down both Almora AND LaStella if everyone comes back healthy and no one else goes down.
  7. LaStella still has options left if they wanted to send him down for a few weeks to keep Coghlan on the roster instead of releasing him. They could obviously fake a Montero injury as well.
  8. Cameron is underestimating the potential of the situation. This is essentially one corporation look at the trade secrets of the other. That kind of information is potentially business crippling. If Pepsi finds out Coke is rolling out new drink in January and they beat them to market with their own version in December, that could cost Coke hundreds of millions of dollars. Send him to "Federal Pound Me in The @ss Prison"
  9. I guess Almora heard those rumors about being gay last year and decided to do something about it.
  10. Honestly, the last few minutes of this game and OT were fun to watch. It means absolutely nothing, but Valentine hit 2 bonkers shots, the first to send it to OT on maybe the best designed last second out of bounds play I've seen since the Bryce Drew shot for Valpo, and the 2nd that is above. Good times!
  11. Agreed. Everyone besides Bryant was clued into this fact.
  12. I irrationally love this and hope it's the reason he's missing the convention. Fan conventions are the absolute worst thing ever. Good for you, Johnny! Get that paper!
  13. What's everyone's rankings on "tradeability" of our young guys/prospects? Here are mine from "almost hell no" to OK. I'm excluding Russell, Bryant, and Rizzo for obvious reasons. Tier 1 Contreras Torres Schwarber--NL DH would move him to the top of the list Baez Jimenez Tier 2 Cease Almora--could be higher due to his obvious fit as our CF after Fowler leaves Happ McKinney Jeimer Everyone else in the system is basically just a guy to me in terms of trades.
  14. 1. I miss the days of the Sunday night home opener for the defending champions. 2. A Sunday night home opener in 15 followed by consecutive Monday night openers can kiss my ass. Friday afternoon openers are the best thing ever.
  15. Don't shoot the messenger, but a loss of control is usually an early sign of arm injury. The velocity loss comes later. I want to kill myself for even typing that sentence.
  16. I was in a meeting, but 11K's and 2 hits is Bad Jake? And 3 walks, but, yeah, a WHIP approaching 1 and over 110 pitches in 6 innings is Bad Jake these days. He's set himself up a hell of a standard. Just incredible. 99% of pitchers on the planet would kill to be Bad Jake.
  17. The guy is going to be a 35-year-old catcher when he's FA next; it's not like he'll really be in a "contract year"-type situation so much as, "damn, I hope I can get a job as a backup, IF I can even keep my job playing baseball." I doubt he'll have much of a problem making $14 million as a backup while clearly on the back end of his career. He really seems like a big time "team first" type of dude that everyone loves as well. It'll be Willson and Miggy as the catchers next year. Then maybe they can put Schwarber as the 3rd guy if he is fully healed. After Montero's contract is up, they'll replace him with another Ross type guy.
  18. It's going to be fun to just finish these guys this weekend. They could be 15+ (!!!!) games back come Sunday!
  19. They probably didn't think they were going to be sellers at the trade deadline when they made the deal either. It's either Happ or someone of his quality or take a comp pick. No one is trading much more than that for 2 months of a potential PR nightmare.
  20. Seriously, what the [expletive]. I'd rather see 2008 NLDS highlights than that. We played the Dbacks in 2007 NLDS. Though you could just mean the 2008 Dodgers nut-punching we took as well.
  21. I'm leery of the wife beater Chapman, but I'd have to pick that deal.
  22. Both the Cubs and Cards are about 4-5 wins below their pythag. The Phillies are the luckiest bunch of lucks that ever lucked. Orioles and Giants have been pretty lucky, too. Edit: Link: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/standings/
  23. This is going to be the Jason Heyward "I'm Back and Ready to Kick Ass" game. Scared himself back into being awesome. I'm calling 3 dongs and an all-time record for n-words from Cardinals fans.
  24. If we sweep, we'd be up 10 games on the Cards. Is that too much to ask?
