  1. Chicago Now blogger says "unnamed sources" think Hendry is gone. A pretty bad example of "journalism", but let's hope it's true. http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/cubs-insider/2011/06/sources-say-expect-change-at-gm-for-cubs.html
  2. I love Starlin Castro. If Quade and the rest of the old school BS crowd doesn't piss him off, we could be rewarded with a Hall of Fame career. Exciting.
  3. I think I would have stopped flying after the first plane crash. Wow, that is awful. :( Apparently his dad was the pilot both times. Yeah. His dad was a doctor here in Fort Wayne. Let's hope he was a better doctor than pilot.
  4. Hello cap space!
  5. I'm pretty sure he did the exact opposite of waiving his no trade clause.
  6. He's played at replacement level so far this year, and he's owed 46.5 million the next 3 years. If he were playing at his previous MVP level, then I could see the attitude of "here's our 10 best prospects, you pick out 4 you like and we'll call it a deal". But Ramirez's issues are more than fleeting, and he's owed a lot of money to a team that doesn't like paying players at all. I wouldn't want to trade both Jackson and McNutt for Ramirez, never mind throw in Carpenter and Vitters in there. Understood and I pretty much agree. I just don't know if Florida would go for anything less than a huge haul.
  7. wed have a very solid offense, no farm system, and a mediocre pitching staff. Wed be the 2010 Brewers. Or the division leading 2011 Brewers. We'll basically have the same starters next year as we do this year with at least 1 addition. When a starting pitcher who was planned to be in the rotation all year starts, the Cubs are around .500. Add a ridiculous offense to that group and we'd be pretty good. We're really bad this year because we're like 4-20 in the Davis/Coleman pile of crap starts.
  8. Ok, so after gauging the comments, its not likely, but not 100% impossible, so I'll throw a package out there: Brett Jackson Trey McNutt Chris Carpenter Josh Vitters As much as I like Jackson and McNutt, I'd do that. Hanley is a top 5 player in baseball when he's functioning. Sign Reyes and Fielder and have the best offensive infield in the history of baseball.
  9. Any possible way Florida is sick of his act? I don't think they would trade him because of the new stadium and the fact that he is usually awesome, but who knows. I'm hoping he continues to suck badly all season. Would we have enough firepower to trade for him without including Castro (which would obviously be a deal wrecker)?
  10. I just want to point out that Castro is unbelievable. Even all of the Sox fans admit it, which is nearly unprecedented. The last Cub I was this excited about was Prior. Let's hope this works out better.
  11. Yes, but the problem with the article and the meatball-thinking it's parroting is that firing the FO would have saved this season or might even turn it around. Firing Hendry and Co. IS the right thing to do...but no way in hell would it shut up the meatballs this year (NO, THIS ISN'T AN ARGUMENT TO KEEP HENDRY). Completely agree. Let Hendry be his own fall guy for those bad contracts. Since a lot of them are ending after this year, bring in a new guy to spend the money. Now let's just hope this happens.
  12. I am frustrated with Ricketts, but this article is beyond stupid. What the hell does he want Ricketts to do right now? Firing Hendry midseason accomplishes nothing unless he has his permanent replacement ready to go. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&id=6689555
  13. WAY too much foul ground in this new stadium. They could make a ton of money by adding seats closer to the action. Very strange that they would make that change.
  14. It's quite embarrassing. He and Dan Uggla have been two horrific off-season signings. I'd still trade Soriano for either one of them, though.
  15. What? No. Finish by year: 1999: 6th 2000: 6th 2001: 3rd 2002: 5th 2003: 1st 2004: 3rd 2005: 4th 2006: 6th 2007: 1st 2008: 1st 2009: 2nd 2010: 5th 2011: 5th (currently) Now that's a run of dominance. Finishing 1st or 2nd 4 times while finishing 5th or 6th 6 times. He was talking about the White Sox.
  16. Overall they've been better, but the Cubs have made 4 playoff appearances post-strike while the White Sox have made 3. Although they actually capitalized on their "destiny" year and the Cubs crapped the bed. The Sox have been consistently around .500 and have had no really awful seasons, but is that really a badge of honor? It's almost easier to win in cycles of really bad and then really good than just hovering around .500 most years. I'm not sure where you're coming from. The CWS won 90+ three times in the 2000s, plus an 88 and 89 win season. They were below .500 once. They've been better than the Cubs. Still doesn't mean anyone cares, which kind of flies in the face of his "taking over Chicago" claim. True. Im not going to lie though, Id rather the Cubs be really good and nobody caring than sucking and having the benefit of a large market, famous park, and plenty of folklore. It's not like the Sox have been "really good", though. They've been above average. If they went on a Braves or Yankees type run of making the playoffs every year for a 5 year stretch, then they'd be a hell of a lot more popular.

  18. LOL at the Cubs. Although, didn't we get Baker for him? Baker has been very good with the Cubs. And the team we traded him to let him walk as a minor league free agent. No reason to LOL at the Cubs anymore than 28 other teams. Theres no reason to believe hed ever get past AA in the Cubs organization, even considering how awful our pen has been the past few years. Theres really no reason to go all Casey McGhee over him. He does have a cool name though. True. And it shows the fickle nature of relief pitchers. Although most of the guys the Cubs bring up tend to suck big time. Then again, Marshall and Marmol have been outstanding and they weren't exactly huge prospects, although they were still expected to be decent.

  20. Reyes SS/2B Castro 2B/SS Prince 1B Kemp RF Soto C B. Jackson CF Soriano LF Vitters/Baez/Vance Law/Kevin Orie 3B Yeah, I think I could accept that lineup
  21. Prince Fielder just made about $30 million extra if Pujols is out for any extended period of time. I can see Boras now: "He's only 27, never been hurt, blah, blah, blah" And Hendry offering 8 years, 200 million.
  22. A .407 BABIP with a 17.9 LD% probably helps. As long as his playing time stays somewhat limited, though, those numbers might not even out. He's been outstanding against lefties and WAY better than usual against righties. Quade has, for the most part, been putting him in position to succeed. His use (and lack of overuse) of Baker and Johnson has been pretty good. Reed (and Baker) are the type of guys that are perfect to have around if your starters are above average (and, ideally, left handed, like Edmonds in 08).
