  1. Agreed. Maybe it's because I have seen maybe 1 Mariners game in the last 5 years and they are never interviewing Ichiro for anything anymore, but he looks so different than what I was remembering.
  2. Blindsided? He's been on the block for over a month. This was his 2nd choice. Just 3-4 days ago a trade with The Dodgers was supposedly near completion. How much less blindsided could he have possibly been? He's really being a bitch about this whole thing. The Cubs have been more than fair with him over the years (strong contracts, supporting his foundation, support for his daughter, etc...). They clearly told him they were going to trade him. For him to act like this is some sort of surprise or slap in the face is just not correct.
  3. Yeah, seems the most logical thing. Too many people have chimed in that the trade is in place so at this point, it probably comes down to Dempster needing to approve it or Dempster trying to get an extension out of the Braves. Oh [expletive] him. If he likes the Cubs as much as he says he does, then just approve it. If Theo and Ricketts didn't have his approval to begin with, they messed up, too. This whole thing is getting bizarre and dumb. Let's hope it all ends up going through and we don't have another DLee or Fred McGriff situation.
  4. If Dempster gets hurt or pitches like garbage tonight, there's going to be a lot of acceptable 2nd guessing of Theo and Jed.
  5. Oh, so you're going to give up on it, right? If the Lakers do indeed get Howard, I guess the next 5 years won't be too enjoyable with the Heat/OKC/Lakers probably winning the next 5 titles. Those teams are and will be stacked. I will watch from afar and resent the fact that Chicago made zero effort to get serious about Howard. Yep. Even when Kobe and Wade get old and bad, I'm sure someone will force a trade to LA or Miami and keep the ball rolling. This sucks.
  6. 3.8 WAR this season so far. That's the [expletive]. If he doesn't get a gold glove, it's robbery.
  7. Would you even need to include Dempster? Cubs owe Soriano $46 million Sox owe Crawford $142 million Cubs get: Crawford + $60 million Red Sox get: Soriano This deal saves the Red Sox $36 million in the long run and opens up a roster spot if/ when they decide to get rid of Soriano. It also gives them immediate help in LF where Soriano's bad legs don't have to cover much ground. Cubs get out of Soriano's contract, have the luxury of moving Crawford's surgery to next week if they feel like it and will pay Crawford $82 million over the rest of his contract. Is Crawford worth $13.5 mil per over the next 6 seasons? Wow, I didn't realize the Crawford contract was THAT bad. I don't think I would even do that unless maybe the Sox payed that $60 million up front, in which case it's really way more than that.
  8. Is this implying that Rosenthal thinks they could swap Crawford for Hanley or Reyes? Seriously? Using that logic, we should be able to find a match with Soriano for Hanley then. Any interest in Soriano and Dempster for Crawford and prospects if the Red Sox chipped in some major $$$?
  9. Debatable, but probably. Lynch was ridiculous the second half of last year though. And now Marshawn Lynch gets his 2nd DUI (1st one killed someone IIRC) and will likely be suspended for a lot of next season. LOL Seattle.
  10. I thought about the breaking stuff and just wondered if someone who had seen him play noticed anything. Hopefully, one of these don't turn into an injury that slow his development. Any chance of him being a raging douche and these other young guys taking it out on him? Not that I really care unless it leads to him getting hurt. Usually great players are all douches.
  11. Broke his bat on it. Singled after Hoilman was intentionally walked. HA. That manager must not have major league aspirations. Yeah. He must not have read the scouting report.
  12. Any way the Rays would include a soon to be making a lot of money BJ Upton in a deal if the Cubs ate a lot of the Soriano salary?
  13. Any insiders? The tease doesn't get me past #1. 1. Profar 2. Bundy 3. Machado 4. Myers 5. d'Arnaud 35. Baez 47. Almora 50. Soler Hak Ju Lee was #33, but Law is starting to question his bat.
  14. But DePaul did make the cut \:D/ \:D/
  15. Future Headlines: October 30, 2015: Cubs World Series MVP Anthony Rizzo Announces He is Gay October 31, 2015: Rizzo Sets Record for Number of Straight to Gay Conversions in 1 Day, Internet Explodes
  16. It's really no contest. The Cubs winning the World Series would be the biggest story in baseball since the Red Sox won it. Maybe, MAYBE, someone winning it like 5 years in a row or something like that, but barring something that literally has no chance of happening (someone hitting 100 homers or going 30-0 pitching or a team winning 130 games), the Cubs are the biggest story.
  17. Kyle..... you are really overstating the case the here. 5800 wins vs 5802 losses over 75 years just screams average. That's better than 14 other teams, and worse than 10. 1909 thru 1983 World Series team W L pct PA W L New York Yankees 6673 4900 0.577 34 22 11 San Francisco Giants 6281 5303 0.542 15 4 10 Los Angeles Dodgers 6186 5408 0.534 18 5 12 St. Louis Cardinals 6121 5463 0.528 14 9 4 Kansas City Royals 1226 1126 0.521 5 0 1 Detroit Tigers 6028 5584 0.519 7 3 3 Pittsburgh Pirates 5975 5599 0.516 10 5 1 Cleveland Indians 5938 5646 0.513 3 2 1 Boston Red Sox 5881 5690 0.508 7 4 3 Cincinnati Reds 5887 5726 0.507 11 4 4 Chicago Cubs 5800 5802 0.500 7 0 7 Chicago White Sox 5746 5817 0.497 4 1 2 Minnesota Twins 5634 5947 0.486 6 1 3 Baltimore Orioles 5532 6033 0.478 9 3 4 Anaheim Angels 1745 1916 0.477 2 0 0 Houston Astros 1661 1840 0.474 2 0 0 Atlanta Braves 5471 6094 0.473 6 2 2 Washington Nationals 1118 1248 0.473 1 0 0 Oakland A's 5365 6205 0.464 13 8 2 Philadelphia Phillies 5204 6333 0.451 8 1 3 Texas Rangers 1628 2020 0.446 0 0 0 New York Mets 1498 1997 0.429 2 1 1 San Diego Padres 995 1372 0.420 0 0 0 Toronto Blue Jays 437 639 0.406 0 0 0 Seattle Mariners 426 653 0.395 0 0 0 How about the A's? When they sucked, they sucked, but when they were good, they racked up the titles. So strange.
  18. Because everyone wants his ceiling to be Derek Jeter, not Edgar Renteria. A few bad weeks has nothing to do with that, but to see limited amount of offensive improvement makes those scenarios go through your head. And its not like Renteria had a terrible career or anything, but, for me, the glimpses of what Castro may be able to do have endless possibilities and I think of a Jeter-like career. I still think that if Castro got 2,300 career hits and a lifetime OPS of .740 (Renteria), we'd be OK with that, but still a bit disappointed.
  19. I'm not worried; a player as young as he is with the trajectory he's had is bound to have some rough patches as he develops. The upside is that during this slump he's actually showing more patience than before. Eventually things will even out and he'll ideally take another step towards being the player we hope/expect him to be. This is where having the FO the Cubs have can be so critical; they set the tone and philosophy as to how players are to be developed, and I really think that what we're seeing right now are growing pains as he's coached in the post-Jaramillio era. I hope so. He'll probably have a 10-12 hit week with some walks and XBH thrown in there and right the ship soon enough. I just want to see improvement, which has happened defensively and lately with the patience. If the worst thing that happens is that Starlin has a bad second 2/3rds of the season and comes back with a vengeance next year, I'm OK with that.
  20. No, but it is a slight justification to their terrible payroll decisions and the fact that Sale and Quintana are the new Koufax and Drysdale, which is annoying. They have had a garbage farm system for years, but somehow remain competitive and make the playoffs about as often as far more well run teams, which is also annoying.
  21. Im officially concerned about Castro right now. He looks like garbage at the plate right now.
  22. Are you LaHair's dad or something?
  23. White Sox sweep the Rangers. Oh [expletive] this.
  24. I liked it better when they were in cap hell than when they've been comfortably below. Yeah it was fine in 2010 because they were a healthy team. And I know what you're saying. Just don't want to be in a situation where they can't add anyone at the deadline. Not that Stan has a track record of helping the team at that point anyway... I would rather build the best team possible by October and risk not being able to add than purposefully go in with space you may never get the chance to use. Yep! Also, if our drafts have been as good as advertised, we can give one of those guys a shot if there's an injury. Better than Stan trading for Oduya and then extending him at a ridiculous number. Cap hell and winning big>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>cap safe and being average.
  25. Not that it matters, but if the season started tomorrow, all of the TWolves starters could/would be White/Hispanic: Love Budinger (if he started over Wesley Johnson, which he probably should) Rubio/Barea Pekovic/Milicic Ridnour That probably hasn't happened in the last 25 years.
