  1. yeah i'm shocked that people watch that show too Winner!
  2. Wow, thats hard. That's what she said. ...okay, okay, I'll stop!! You always leave me satisfied and smiling ...its no use, dont try and fight it The second game thread in a row with penis jokes? I'm impressed. Hopefully we can finish sooner, today. Thats NOT what she said
  3. Wow, thats hard. Sorry, I cant seem to stop now That's what she said.
  4. LOL at intentionally walking Theriot with a 4 run deficit. Haha.
  5. Cubs pitchers all of a sudden bunting up a storm. 4 in a row. Nicely done.
  6. Soto putting a down payment down on Morris tonight...a few more games and he'll OWN him!
  7. Even though we didn't actually draft him doesn't mean we weren't in the position to do so. If Hendry and his scouting department would have been able to see the possibilities for Hamilton, we wouldn't be playing Felix Pie and Reed freaking Johnson in CF right now. Soriano Fukudome Lee Ramirez Hamilton DeRosa Soto Theriot
  8. A good blackout after a night of drinking and taking home a "slumpbuster" is definitely a good thing, especially if she leaves before you wake up.
  9. I don't think they should negotiate. Yeah, he's their franchise player, but he isn't as good as a few years ago and they have him locked into a team-friendly contract until 2011. I can't see him being worth any more money in 4 more years. He made his bed, now he has to lay in it. I also can't see him being the type of guy that would actually sit out any meaningful action (training camp, preseason, regular season, etc).
  10. Here's my order, but just select your first choice: 1. Pirates 2. Astros 3. Brewers 4. Cardinals 5. Reds (purely because of Dusty). If it were last year, Reds would have been an easy #2.
  11. That's all he throws. I know, that's why I said it. Glad to see he used his offseason well. Using 1 pitch is great when you are completely warm and on top of your control Maddux style, but when you're just a bit off, you get pounded, especially against a team that you face 18+ times per year. Helps explain his putrid starts most every year. Oh well, he figured it out last year and most years in his career, I would imgaine he can do it again. But, it would be nice if he could mix it up a bit when his control is off a bit.
  12. Good thing Howry hasn't decided to throw anything other than a fastball. Awesomeness.
  13. There was a group of fat, white trash Brewer fans in our section yesterday talking trash all game. After the win, they were particularly annoying. So, we obviously asked them who won the division last year, gave them crap about blowing a 10 game lead, etc.. Their brilliant response? At least we haven't gone 100 years since we last won the World Series. I go: At least our franchise has won the world series and actually been able to support a team for that long. His response: The Braves won in the 1950s, so we've only been waiting 54 years. Apparently since the White Sox won in 2005, Cubs fans can now claim that championship as their own as well. [expletive] Wisconsinites...this could be the year that the hatred really kicks in.
  14. Me too, and considering what we gave Fukudome and other contracts given out the past few seasons, it's not like Lee is overpaid or anything. Also, take into account his great defense and solid clubhouse/community presence, he's still a very important and strong part of this team. Still, .300 average with a .400 OBP, 25 homers, 90 RBI, and 40-50 doubles is a pretty damn good offensive player.
  15. I completely agree. I know they would like to show Marshall some "love" because they know they pretty much screwed him with that BS Trachsel acquisition last year, but the fact is that Piggy would fit the Cubs need better. With Lieber in the bullpen, there is no need for Marshall to be a long man. I say let Marshall go down to AAA and be a starter. Maybe they end up trading him later in the season. Or, they can wait for Dempster and/or Marquis to suck and bring him up to start. If Marshall has a solid season starting at AAA or MLB, they almost have to give him a rotation spot next year when Dempster and Liber's contracts are up. Then again, Marshall should have had a spot all of last year and this year, too.
  16. Dutchie Caray Just go away. Please. Now. I'm sick of this franchise being associated with nothing more than a drunken clown.
  17. So the Dbacks will have the best record in the NL in your scenario? No, the Mets would, but they can't play the Phillies in the division series. I think the Dbacks will have more wins than the Cubs, so we get the shaft and have to face Santana in a short series.
  18. I don't necessarily think signing Soriano was a good move, in fact, his contract will be putrid in about 2 more years, but, that didn't really signal the end for Matt Murton. Piniella didn't trust him in RF after Soriano couldn't hack it in CF. For whatever reason, Lou thought that POS Cliff Floyd was a better option in RF the majority of the 2nd half of last season. Once it was clear that Jones was going to be the every day CF, the outfield should have been Soriano, Jones, and Murton. Uncle Lou crapped the bed with playing Floyd and Fontenot (with DeRo moving to RF) instead of Murton. As much as Hendry sucks, Lou could have played Murton nearly every day last season, especially in the 2nd half, but he went primarily with Cliff freaking Floyd (whom Hendry probably should have not signed) instead of Murton.
  19. NL: East: Mets Cent: Cubs (by 1 game) West: Dbacks WC: Phillies MVP: Carlos Beltran ROY: GEOVANY SOTO Cy Young: Johan Santana AL: East: Red Sox Cent: Indians West: Mariners (after signing Barry Bonds in May) WC: Tigers MVP: Grady Sizemore ROY: Clay Buchholz Cy Young: Erik Bedard Division Series: Mets over Cubs in 4 Dbacks over Phillies in 4 Indians over Mariners in 4 Tigers over Red Sox in 5 Championship Series: Mets over Dbacks in 5 Tigers over Indians in 7 World Series: Mets over Tigers in 7
  20. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/03/cedeno-chosen-o.html Doesn't say if Cintron was released or would be sent to AAA, but his locker is apparently cleaned out.
  21. Does anyone know a good source to see who exactly has option years left? Of everyone on the "bench bubble", I think Murton, Fontenot, and Cintron (minor league deal) can be sent to the minors without any problem. I think Cedeno is the only one who has to stay on the 25 man roster this whole season. And obviously Reed Johnson since he signed a major league deal.
  22. I agree that swapping Soriano and Fukudome would seem the most obvious move, and would improve the lineup. See, I disagree. While I don't really like Soriano in the 2 hole, I would HATE having him bat 5th. "Protection" in the order is usually overrated, but if Soriano was batting 5th, he would see a very steady diet of breaking balls because no one is afraid of pitching to DeRosa or Soto. He would likely rack up an obscene amount of Ks because of his free-swinging nature. Batting him in front of Lee and/or Ramirez should ensure Soriano seeing many fastballs. If Lou is adamant about batting Theriot #1, I would like to see Fukudome or Lee #2 followed by Soriano and then Ramirez. Ideally you could easily just bat Fuk #1, Lee #2, Sori #3 and move Theriot to the bottom.
  23. NO. Why would you want Lieber/Demp/Marquis taking starts away from Zambrano or Lilly? Let the odd man out throw simulated games every 5 days or something if you don't end up actually using them in the games. Obviously you chose not to read the entire post. I was throwing out 2 options to help keep those 3 fresh. So we can actually get the best out of them. How exactly would you choose to "keep all of them fresh" without taking starts from Z, Lilly, or Hill? You can't send them down to the minors and just bring them up whenever its time to make a start. 2 out of the 3 will get regular work and Lieber will have to get his work on the side to ensure that if he has to start, his arm will be able to go 5 or 6 innings.
