  1. The Patterson/Pierre ordeal epitomizes several of Hendry's faults.
  2. Stone, Phillips and Thorne had a great bit about whether to walk Pujols late in the game. Something to the effect: Stone: Off the air, Thorny, you had an interesting approach to Pujols here. Thorne: I'd put him on. No way I'd let him hit with the score tied in the 7th. Stone: You wouldn't even give him anything close? Thorne: No. Just put him on. Phillips: Whats your take, Stoney? Stone: I think Thorne would put him on. You probably had to be there, but it was great. Then, during the AB, Russ Springer was throwing pitches WAY outside. The guys were kind of laughing about how absurd it was. Then, out of nowhere, Springer let a cutter get over the outside corner for a strike. The guys in the booth were obviously stunned, commenting that the only person more shocked in the park than Pujols was probably Garner. Stone, acting like Springer, said, "Hey Ump! What Kind of call was that? Are you even watching the game?" I can stand to watch Cardinal games if Stone is in the booth. But, he's no Brenly....
  3. Jim Bullinger could help the pitching staff AND the offense. Didn't Shawn Boskie start out as a 3B? I remember him going yard.

    Streaking

In the last two seasons, the Cubs have suffered through five losing streaks of at least six games. During that streak, the Cubs have also only mustered one winning streak of six games or more (7). Extension worthy figures if every I saw them.
  5. In just 67 games last year, Francour tallied an astonishing 13 OF assists. That was good enough for 2nd in the NL behind Floyd (15) and 3rd in the majors. Francour came up with the reputation for having a cannon. His 2005 numbers were no fluke. Therefore, he deserves all the respect in the world when it comes to OF arms. Its not an acceptable risk with a catcher running and the wind blowing out in Wrigley.
  6. I don't disagree. However, the decision was so bad that it gave me Waivin' Wendell flashbacks.
  7. Ryu had better not unpack his bags after that outing.
  8. Sending Barrett against Francour was inexcusably stupid. I'm not a huge Speier fan, but he knows (or should know) that Francour has a cannon. Unless Barrett was resigned to going A.J. on Pratt, it was a bad, bad decision.
  9. What's Jim Bowden doing these days? Yeah, he's horrible too, but how many games has Neifi batted #2 on a Bowden assembled roster? :D Attending court hearings, mostly.
  10. Par for the course, my friend. Par for the course. More like an expected triple bogie.
  11. Hendry may have just elevated/lowered himself to worst GM in baseball. To me, this attitude smacks of, "Everyone else would get rid of the manager, but I'm going to be different because we need stability." Problem is, stability is only worthwhile when it goes hand-in-hand with a competent option. Baker isn't competent. Neither is Hendry, for that matter.
  12. Is this a rhetorical question?
  13. Thankfully, we are getting closer to that 15 games under .500 mark that the Astros were at prior to their tear. MacPhail must be freaking thrilled!
  14. Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't Carlos Lee be a FA in 07? If so, I see the Cubs backing up the money truck and needing to open LF. However, that shouldn't preclude a competent GM from looking into moving Jones. God knows the Cubs have shown a willingness to eat salary (Sosa, Hawkins). Jones' departure ought to be seriously explored.
  15. LOL! They are going off on the stupid BP excuses. Kap said, "If we play Chan Ho Park, do we need to find a South Korean to throw BP?"
  16. What are you going to do with all that money in your Cubbie Fund now, Abuck?
  17. Waddle said Kap asked the tough questions, so it was a good interview. Tough questions are one thing. A good interview, however, is one in which dodged tough questions are followed up on.
  18. I don't think it was. It confirms that the whole organization has no clue. Now I can relax and enjoy other things in life. $20 says you're watching twenty-four straight hours of Its a Wonderful Life.
  19. Lee was a top FA signing...right, Andy, whatever helps you sleep. Strictly for confirmation of earlier expectations, what a waste of time.
  20. Andy: "Hey Matt Murton. Enjoy the ride from under the bus."
  21. No. Since I already am convinced that he would fail to identify the proper players, I just pray that he doesn't also pay ridiculous amounts of the outgoing players' salaries.
  22. Kerry Wood. What kind of wood? Pine, of course, because he is so soft.
  23. Ridiculous. Neither Stone nor Brenly are idiots. JC, you think that Stone would be an effective GM? First, I was just pointing out that neither are idiots. I don't care for Brenly as a broadcaster, and would be horrified if he were to become manager of the Cubs. Despite my criticisms of him, he's no idiot. My thoughts on Stone are well documented. To answer your question, I wouldn't be opposed to giving Stone a shot. Stone has been remarkably on point with respect to talent evaluation, IMO. Furthermore, he seems adept at identifying club needs. I don't think he is as old school as has been asserted. At the very least, Stone appears to be open minded to me, such that at least there is a glimmer of hope he'd be more accepting of statistical analysis with the construction of a club. If I had my druthers, I'd just as soon have Stone return to the booth where he is eminently talented and qualified. I would also like to see him as a part of an ownership group before taking over a GM position.
  24. Ridiculous. Neither Stone nor Brenly are idiots.
