  1. Maybe, if we pray to Baby Jesus, we'll keep playing into the 23rd inning and the game will be called. How about Grown-Up Jesus? He likes baby Jesus the best, okay? Lookin at his Baby Einstein videos, don't even know a word yet... Sorry, Mr. Bobby.

  3. I hear James Cameron found his crypt under the Cubbie Bear.
  4. "Big money, multi-year contracts for middle relievers is a great allocation of resources." -Latroy Hawkins actually, that was a mike remlinger quote. Remlinger is just a whiter, leftier version of Hawkins. They are often mistaken for one another when discussing overpaid pitching mistakes.

  6. He said this? What a douche. Yeah, trying to find the link...but I saw it on the news last night, as he left podium he said "He gonna get hit" At first I thought the same thing, but Guillen is difficult to understand and said it as he was leaving the press conference table. Taking into account the context of the discussion (Guillen insisting that his call was right and that he will pitch to Sosa instead of Teixeira all the time if he can) and the fact that it would be absurd to say Sosa would get plunked, its possible Guillen said, "He's gonna have to hit," or something in that vain. Of course, I don't completely dismiss the fact that Guillen has acted absurd in the past...
  7. Any article with Carlos Zambrano and Carl Pavano's names in it deserves immediate dismissal.
  8. I don't know that I can argue and that doesn't make me happy.
  9. Cotts is Glendon Rusch with prior success. I think he is the guy to go to for the spot start. We don't need two on-a-good-day-mediocre-lefties in the rotation.
  10. He looks like he did when he first came up. Amazing how dropping a few pounds can take the years off. Additionally, its astonishing how much losing weight can relieve stress on the joints. As most people here know, weight gain isn't always good, whether its fat or muscle. It depends on the profession and the use of the additional mass. Those generalities are a given. However, it is seldom emphasized how much just an additional 5-7 pounds can have on your joints and interal systems in general. For instance, how many people know that being just 8 pounds overweight can lead to snoring? This fact demonstrates that weight does not just gather on the outer most layers of our physics, but rather has significant impact on our internal systems. If a person's build is such that it cannot accommodate additional mass (again, fat or muscle), his or her joints will suffer. I have experienced this first hand in my shoulder and was amazed at the results of losing weight. (Snoring was also aleviated). If Kerry has lost weight and can maintain it (not an easy thing the older you get), I think there may be light at the end of the tunnel for us fans who have pulled for Wood all of these years. I hope the best for him. As long as you have an 8 pound epiglottis. Thats what she said. (Thanks, Michael Scott.)
  11. Weren't you pimping Marshall for the past couple of years? Don't worry--my boy was Brownlie. :dumb:
  12. Welcome back, JC. Whether it was a hiatus or sabbatical, I'm done with it. Its good to be home. Too bad, suckers. Haven't had to break out that emoticon out since the last time your graced us with your presence. :D Welcome back! Despite my infrequent posting over the past few months, I still dominate you by way of number of posts. That is still the way you determine status around here, correct? Or, is it the amount of times you force people to eat crow?
  13. Marquis is more than a name...its an attitude. Or not.

  16. While I don't openly advocate using twelve pitchers, it can't be as bad when you don't have Jose Macias, Neifi Perez, Enrique Wilson, Rey Ordonez, Jerry Hairston, Darrin Lewis and Tom Goodwin on the bench.
  17. JC TIMES article: JC hopes Prior's injuries are behind him, too.
  18. For the record, I don't think its lowball. I think it fails to incorporate his final arbitration year numbers. I'd rather see 6/$105M than 5/$90M. With regard to Zito, 1) the Giants had to make a splash after losing Schmidt, 2) the Yankees and Mets could have come up with more $ if they wanted (which is somewhat telling), and 3) Zito is left-handed, and that fact still garners a confusingly high amount of weight in MLB. Mind you, I'd rather have Zito for the money plus a rookie (Galhager?) than the money spent on Lilly and Marquis. Blech.
  19. The hats make everyone look like they have Hobbit ears. Big, red Hobbit ears...
  20. Sheffield at #1 makes my jaw drop. The Tigers gave up some huge arms for a 39 year old bat who has had injury problems and tied to the steroid scandal. While I'm not necessarily opposed to the idea of the Tigers acquiring Sheffield, I was never that enamoured with the deal.
  21. 5 years at $90M? If Carlos is looking for @$15M in arbitration this year, it seems to me that that number should be a launching point. If so, the math would seem to call for a rather sizeable backloaded year or two. But, then again, I have never seen eye to eye with Hendry's resource allocation.
  22. Pink-eyed kid. (Conjunctivitis, not albino). Daycare kicked him out.
  23. Because its more than just "predicting" pitches. Stone gives you his analysis of why you pitch a guy a certain way in a certain situation. He doesn't just say, "This is likely a fastball, Chip." Instead, his commentary is often far more informative and includes not only what he thinks the guy might throw, but what he would throw in that situation. But, it isn't just pitching. Stone, either through hard work or simple experience through time, provided valuable insight with respect to most every aspect of the game. Unlike you, I enjoy his personality. I think he is quick witted and smart, which aides in the calling of a game. Combine that with his analysis, and that is why I'd take him over Brenly seven days a week, and twice on Sundays.
  24. You have got to be kidding me. And Stone is the arrogant one? Stone didn't just predict pitches anyway. He would warn about pitches. Stone would advise, "He's probably looking for a fastball outer half here. If Trout misses with his pitch, it may be a long day." Next thing you know, Bob Dernier is looking up over the ivy. Stone is simply the best color man in baseball. He did a fantastic job with the Cubs, and that carried over to his ESPN work.
