  1. Forget my last post. I should have looked first. Apparently, he made starts in September.
  2. ... and the sample size alarms blare. Marquis' monthly ERAs, 2004-2007: April: 3.59 May: 4.02 June: 6.12 July: 4.03 August: 5.75 September: 4.11 So historically, he's pitched like a #5 starter (or worse) in June and August, and significantly better than a #5 starter in April, May, July, and September. Correct me if I'm wrong as I don't generally follow the Cards, but wasn't he shut down for September last year when he was brutal? If so, wouldn't that fact tend to, at least, affect the argument with respect to that month?
  3. If its just a message board: NorthsideBullSmack
  4. I don't care for Dusty's insights. He has always been a pretty affable guy, and he is probably better suited, IMO, to round table discussions. But, his commentary during games and BBTN usually just leaves me shaking my head as when he managed the Cubs.
  5. But God forbid we give the prospects we call up enough time to show what they can do at the major league level. Ride the pine kiddies...Cliff Floyd needs to get his AB's. And we can't have Jacque Jones throwing a temper tantrum. Exactly the reason I used "manic" to describe the shuffling. You can include the quarter cup of coffee Soto got. I don't think he will be the next Johnny Bench, but for kripe's sake, why give the guy a chance. Didn't Soto help foster Hill's turn around late last year when he was called up and caught him? No, he didn't. Hill started turning around in early August, and Soto didn't come up until September. Soto started 7 games in September-2 of those were Hill starts. 1 outing was Rich Hill's complete game shutout 1 outing was 5 innings, 4 runs Thanks for the info. If Soto was Hill's primary catcher when he scorched AAA, I think it would be worth while to try to pair them long term. However, I have no idea if he was.
  6. No, but Lou could banish him to the bullpen if he thinks another starter could do better. I doubt it though...for the money they are paying him, he'd be an awfully expensive middle reliever. I suspect that if Marquis does bad enough, they'll DL him with a mysterious injury so that he can take a break, and they can "rehab" him in the minors. Who will they DFA to bring up Pawalek in his place? He's the obvious choice: need another lefty in the rotation, he is not on the 40-man, and there are other pitchers that make more sense.
  7. I'm not sure, it sounded like they wanted someone who is a top of the order guy, not a middle of the order guy. And that statement in and of itself shows how idiotic this team is. Yep, because all this team needs is more speed. Well, Greenies were part of the new drug ban...
  8. I was so surprised to hear Len talking about "Patterson", I thought that we traded for Corey to return, never considering Hendry would drag EPatt up.

  10. once again, another example of hendry failing to do his job like a normal person. i mean, if a stockbroker continually ignored market trends and repeatedly based his trades on info he got from an oracle, he'd be fired and poor. I couldn't agree more. It feels like Hendry is now trying to bring up every prospect in the hopes of some glorious infusion of energy. Where prospect time was minimal in the Baker years, it has almost been manic this year. The Moore and Fox call-ups were odd enough, but now the shuffling of rosters to get Patterson up here seems like an unnecessary reach. I hope to heaven new ownership will see Hendry's failings early.
  11. Yes, he has been our best hitting catcher since Barrett. However, that may be more of an indictment of Koyie Hill, Rob Bowen and Soto's cup of coffee than any "resurgence" by Kendall. I hope he keeps hitting, and, at the same time, finds a major league throwing arm.
  12. That made me laugh. What happened to Rothschild finding the hitch in Marquis' delivery that was worth $21M?
  13. G R I T I could easily substitute the G and R with two other letters for even a more appropriate description of Kendall.
  14. What are you talking about? The Garnett trade was HUGE!
  15. If they couldn't take on money, then its just the Tribune's one, final kick to the collective groin of Cub fans. I still don't understand how not signing Zambrano, one of the objectively best pitchers in baseball, helps to sell the team. With the dollars that are being leaked, Z's contract is not that significant. I admittedly am no corporate acquisition specialist, but common sense seems to be getting placed on the back burner. To that end, if taking on the remainder of Griffey's contract will substantially help a playoff run (which, in turn, creates more revenue), then you do it, IMO.
  16. I fall in the "Should've gotten Griffey if you could without giving up Pie" camp. While an upgrade at catcher would be nice offensively, Hendry needs to live with the mess he has made. I think he gave up on (or didn't give a chance to) Soto too quickly this season. Between Hill, Soto and Bowen, I would have been happy with the defense. Kendall's arm looks more and more like Johnny Damon's these days. While I'm not a Dempster fan, I think Howry, Marmol or (gulp) Wood could step in if Ryan continues to play hide and seek with the plate. I like the idea of Griffey because he is an everyday player. I hate when Lou (like his predecessor) stacks the lineup full of righties when there is a lefty on the mound. I think you still need those left handed bats in a lineup to shift a pitcher's approach and point of focus. If he just sees a steady diet of right handed hitters, no matter how good they may be, I submit that the pitcher gets into a rhythm a little more easily. Griffey's presence would have helped avoid the inevitable "stacking" theory.
  17. I use to feel the same, but he converted me. There will be no conversion for me. The final straw was his smug smile when he brushed back Kerry Wood on a contentious day with Wood falling to the ground. I take much satisfaction in his missing out on St. Louis' WS Championship. Grudges are all about commitment.
  18. I can't stand Matt Morris. I don't care if he rots with Pittsburgh or SF, just as long as he rots.
  19. JC is back! Just in time for a really bad joke. :P The problem with good jokes is that people only remember the joke. Tell a bad joke, however, and people remember the lame jokester. Its better to be lame and remembered than funny and forgotten. Or something...
  20. Haven't ever gotten excited about Church. The complimentary water tastes funny and they make you eat tiny cardboard coasters.
  21. This comment has no reflection on Bruce, as I tend to believe him to a fault. Just as a general observation, it seems that Hendry's supporters have always touted his ability to keep things "close to the vest". In this case, I hope that is true. I think Griffey would look exceptional in RF for the push. Or, at the very least, give Zambrano his freaking money. I don't want to see some retread crap player just for the sake of making a trade. I wouldn't move Pie, but I'd consider a package of nearly anyone else in the minors. I have always saw a little Soriano in Pie.
  22. Is this a one-night posting marathon, or are you coming out of retirement? Well, I AM still in playing shape...
  23. Is there such a thing as 3 multiple games?
  24. Doesn't it seem like Hendry only deals with the Orioles, Marlins and Pirates?
