  2. Marshall & Maddux = MaMa Boys? Maybe not... Marshall just gave a fun interview in postgame. Its nice to see young guys really enjoy the game.
  3. There will always be Russ Ortiz. Edgardo Alfonzo will likely be available after wearing out his welcome in the Big A. JT Snow will be looking for a job. And, Bonds has told Boras to start shopping him, or something. Bring back the WS Giants!
  4. Boy, if you even consider that Baker may have been sacrificing the good of the team to hold to his philosophies of favoring veterans, I can't see how you could have any respect for him. As a non-Dusty fan, I haven't even suggested that he has intentionally placed his philosophies ahead of Cub success. I think its just a function of his misplace philosophies that cripples the club on occassion.
  5. Really?? I can see him wanting to bakc back west, but Arizona doesn't have a big enough budget for Baker to hide behind. I'm guessing he'd love to go back to LA, but they just hired Little. Anaheim isn't looking to hire. He's already been in San Fran. SD, Oakland and Seattle don't spend enough money for him to hide behind. Jmo but he might not have anywhere better to go considering neither NY teams or Boston want him. I think the suggestion of Arizona is based on two points: 1. It is lower profile than Chicago, and 2. his former agent, Jeff Moorad, is running the show there. He has expressed a continued fondness for his old agent now and again. Baker is Boston or NY? That would be bloody.
  6. For a guy that has gotten torched (a bit unfairly, IMO) for his defense at 2B, he has been terrific at 1B. Not an ideal offensive 1B from a power standpoint, but he has demonstrated some versatility that has surprised me.
  7. I'd say no. First of all, he has little choice at this point. The Cubs don't have three options to replace Guzman, Marshall and Hill. Second, you don't praise a fireman for putting out a raging fire which has engulfed a house when he got arrived to just a smoldering ember. That is to say, people don't deserve a pat on the back when removing someone pitching as badly as Rusch should have been done earlier.
  8. Join. Begrudgingly.
  9. I haven't read this thread, so apologies if it was addressed already. Does anyone else think that ESPN's coverage/production of the draft absolutely sucked? Fewer "war room" interviews than in recent years, telephone interviews with delays so painful that interviewees just started spouting off answers, and poor on air chemistry (in large part to Boomer) lead to a very unappealing draft to me.
  10. I guess this debunks the Dusty had to have Rusch in the rotation theory. Rusch was a horrible signing that lies soley on the shoulders of Hendry who vastly overpaid for him. How so?
  11. Earl Weaver just turned over.
  12. So, you cut your daily posts by a good percentage from last year, but still are able to lead the board in puns. That's clutch! :D I know how you in particular were likely pining for them, so I thought I'd throw you a bone.
  13. I've never been one to worry about turning Pie into Patterson simply by his path to the majors. While such handling may have some influence on his development, I don't think it is necessarily determinative. I look for a productive career from Pie. Perhaps thats just Pie in the sky thinking...
  14. Creppiest thing I've ever seen.
  15. I wish he could find a rod of +2 intelligence. LOL!
  16. I love Maddux. I'm thrilled he is having a terrific start. Absolutely thrilled. Through four starts, Maddux has pitched like a $9M pitcher. That being said, lets keep the criticism of the Maddux signing in focus. The vast majority of the criticism arose due to the overall terms of the contract. $24M for Maddux at that stage of his career with the alleged arms in the Cub system was the genesis of most of that criticism. I, for one, don't feel like the Cubs have gotten $24M of production from Maddux. Therefore, I stand by my disappointment of the contract. Its spilt milk at this point, though. This is the final year of the contract, he's pitching well, and its a great story. I suppose if people feel better by throwing the ol' "Eat crow" cleverness around because of one great month out of a three year contract, so be it.
  17. Maybe Aardsma was so good in AAA because he has, well, triple As in his last name. Coincidence?
  18. Christ, that is all we need. Z wrenching his back trying to crank one out down by 4 in April. Uhg.
  19. I'm pretending I didn't. So, Kerry was supposed to pitch to minor leaguers yesterday, but felt a twinge under his arm during his warm ups and shut it down. Sounds about right.
  20. Barrett pimp slapped that ball. Here is a thought. The Cubs have been cruxified in recent years (and rightly so) for their poor handling of injuries. From treatment to return dates, they have just been wrong with amazing consistency. Maybe, just maybe, the reports of Derrek being out for 2-3 months includes a built in cushion. Perhaps the Cubs have learned to go worst case scenerio over miracle cure, Jesus laying on hands type of estimates. I don't know how much I believe it, but thought I'd throw it out.
  21. Bob is fired up about ARam. Easy, big guy.
  22. Maybe he's making up for bunting the first pitch of the game when everyone was expecting him to do so. I'd like to see the Cubs deal Pierre, Williams, Jones, Perez, Wiiliamson and Wood when he's off the DL in June/July. Go into rebuilding mode now? Hendry wants to keep his job, you know. He has to make a show of competing at least until the break. Well, I'd argue getting rid of Williams, Jones, Perez and Williamson doesn't really demonstrate a rebuilding, and I'd personally welcome Pie in Pierre's place. I want to see if Woody has anything left.
  23. Brenly, "You know, its fun to watch Maddux pitch a game, but its also fun to watch him watch a game from the dugout..." The game sucks from every angle.
  24. Uhoh. Len's starting to talk about moral victories.
