Funny. No mention has been made of Jim Hendry's proclamation that it wouldn't matter when Woody's surgery was, because he'd be ready by opening day. I suppose we shouldn't hold Hendry to those comments because he was just relying on Wood and the doctors. Its ridiculous. Hendry obviously was either relying on bad information (for which he ought not be absolved as its his job to get the right information) or he was outright lying. Neither trait is particularly appealing. Arguing that all of this is 20/20 hindsight is absolutely, 100% bullcrap. There were plenty of posters expressing their exasperation at the way Wood was handled and the futility of pushing back his surgery when it was happening. Those opinions were bouyied, in part, by stories from board members about their recovery times from shoulder surgery. While those accounts may not be from elite athletes, they certainly are relevant. The decision to delay Wood's surgery is indefensible, pure and simple. It is clear, by Hendry's own comments, that he failed to have a grasp on Wood's recovery. That alone is grounds for his dismissal, IMO.
