  1. Satan to Badger: Here, eat these 5 barrels of beans. Now, about that soul...
  2. If you're trying to get him to do color for another team, then count me in. Not a Brenly fan? I enjoy him. No, not at all. I'm sure he is a nice guy, but his color analysis has slowly grown to irritate me. His communication of the obvious is mind numbing, IMO.
  3. If you're trying to get him to do color for another team, then count me in.
  4. Wicked pitch by Maddux. Edmonds is probably on the phone wanting the ball examined.
  5. $10 says Jerry missed the sign to lean into one there.
  6. Jacque doesn't get cheated on his swings. Doesn't mean a whole lot, but its something...I guess...
  7. Dusty: Hey, Juan. Every see The Sandlot and how Smalls ran the ball into second from the outfield? Juan: Yeah. Dusty: Try it...
  8. Here we go. Len and Bob are pulling the ol' "Cubs can't catch a break," routine. Egad.
  9. LOL! What a throw by Pierre! He put everything he had on it and it barely got by the mound. All around great pickup.
  10. Bonds will go Rowdy Yates on Hill.
  11. Notwithstanding the veracity of Clanton's claims, isn't his fragile mental state yet another indictment of the Cubs' first round failings in the draft?
  12. Yeah, I figured guys like Epstein, Beane and Cashmen were exceptions to the rule.
  13. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20060408&content_id=1390030&vkey=pr_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Gracias. However, I was more interested to see what he was making for his efforts. For some reason, I think info is usually kept pretty tightly under wraps for GMs.
  14. I have been down on Hendry since I can't remember. He put together a highly suspect roster, and has repeatedly seemed clueless when it comes to the long range health of the organization. Pierre's signing, IMO, is the epitome of this management team's ineptitude. Even if Pierre didn't suck so far, it never made sense to me to go after him with Patterson on the roster and Pie in the wings. Financially, personnel wise, and resource wise, it was stupid. That being said, Baker shouldn't be captaining this team to its 4th 6 game losing streak in a year. He obvioulsy can't motivate this team. His reputation for "getting the best" out of his players doesn't ring true with any regularity. Its time for Baker to go. Yesterday, for that matter. He isn't a good manager, motivator or applier of Eastern Philosphy. (See, divulging weaknesses during war time.) Should Hendry go too? Absolutely. But, I've been hollering about that forever, seemingly. Unless MacPhail gets cut loose (which won't happen), he ain't going anywhere. So, start where you can. Jettison Baker, his toothpicks and armbands before Kerry Wood returns for him to further abuse. BTW, does anyone know the terms of Hendry's extension? Sorry if that has previously been posted, but I don't remember seeing it.
  15. Fragile? Must be Italian.
  16. I'm no Don Baylor apologist. However, to be fair, he won 88 games one season with less talent than either of Baker's 88 or 89 win Cub teams had. As far as your statement goes, interim or not, Bruce Kimm was awful. Baylor and Baker are a push as far as I'm concerned. At least Baylor didn't sound like an idiot in the media with Baker's frequency.
  17. Isn't it odd that the two youngest guys on the roster get grouped together for having bats slowing down and sat on the same night?
  18. JC

    Alou injured

Only if his ACL was attacked by a jellyfish.
  19. If Albert were the 31st team in MLB, the following absurdity would be a reality: HR Totals: 27. Seattle 21 28. Cubs 21 29. San Diego 19 30. Pujols 16 31. Kansas City 15
  20. I don't follow the Mets, so perhaps Goony could help. Would Nady be at all possible to nab? Even if it would cost a small fortune, he could be a viable OF option. Just throwing it out. Lets face it, something significant has to be done that will help whether the current storm along with helping the rest of the season. The roster has been exposed as thinner than expected. This franchise is wealthy enough to weather this storm by replenishing lost talent through free agency (if used wisely, which has been an entire seperate issue). So, if the Cubs want to salvage this season, its time to vastly overpay now. Not a position I'm happy about, but a position that nevertheless exists.
  21. When in Toronto, Carptenter was a HIGHLY touted talent by baseball people and the media alike. Injuries derailed Carpenter's Blue Jay career when they felt like they were nearing a point when their young pitching was about to take off. While I've never delved into his minor league stats, I recall Phillips being a well thought of prospect in the Expos system. In addition, I've always thought Arroyo had better stuff than his consistency showed off. If those two have "found their stride" rather than played above their heads, I wouldn't be shocked.
  22. Raja Bell isn't white. Hold it...
  23. Christ, I'm just happy Guzman hasn't had a leg fall off or something. I'll take my chances with him as long as he simply can still pitch...
  24. As far as pitching to Bonds, I long for the Cub strategy of 2003 when they would bust him inside on nearly every pitch. Remember when Wood plunked him twice (once of the dirt) in one game, and Prior buzzing him the next game? Many, including me, saw that as a defining moment for Prior when Bonds wagged his bat at Mark. Regardless, it showed that the Cubs wouldn't let him intimidate them. Allow me to air just one more thing. For those that think its a race thing that people don't want Bonds catching Ruth, its time to give up that ridiculous notion. I don't think its shared much here, but I could be wrong. Lets not forget, Maris was crucified as he approached Babe's single season record and he may have been the whitest guy in baseball. There is something special about Babe Ruth that transcends all of this race garbage. He was bigger than life, and his reputation continues to this day. Just wanted to vent.
  25. Drill a hole? Ouch. I've been in the room for both of my children's deliverys, and not once did the doctor ask which drill bit to use. I never saw the movie, but its named Junior.
