  1. I could have told you that. The only way that they make the playoffs is if they randomly get hot like they did in June. But even then, it would only be a mirage as this team just isn't that good. No team in the central is good though and any team no matter how good or bad they are can get hot over 20 games. The division is still up for grabs.
  2. Oh yay for you. Don't shoot the messenger~ I posted when Votto gave the Reds a 3 run lead in the 1st yesterday too, not just when the Brewers do something. The Reds starter has like a 14 ERA on the year (before this game) so its more the Reds stinking and less the Brewers trying to win. Anyway if the Brewers are going to break that record for 3+ run leads blown they are gonna need to get a lot of early leads.
  3. Weeks, Hardy, Braun all with back to back to back HR's to start the game and Brewers are up 3-0.
  4. To be honest my guess is 11-10 has a good chance, 12-9 probably wins it, 13-8 is almost a no brainer.
  5. 7 BB's and 1 run scored, I guess there is a good reason the Pirates are in last, heh.
  6. Aren't you glad Marmol isn't the closer, would you rather see Dempster in for this situation? I don't know if its Lou being a smart manager or being lucky that he trusts the proven vet more in the 9th.
  7. I predicted about a month in that ARod would only hit 45 hrs this year. My best friend is not going to let me live it down. Yeah I said basically the same thing, it was looking good there for a while but then he went on another tear.
  8. ARod with 2 more HR's tonight putting him at 51, Fielder with his 43rd. Jeter left the game with an injured knee which I know a lot of you will like to hear~. You should never feel comfortable with Trachsel on the mound, heh.
  9. It was an error on LaRoche, so Jones doesn't get the RBI there, does he? Depends on whether the run would have scored without the error or not. I'm not watching the game so I can't answer that question.
  10. 3-0 Reds on a ball absolutely crushed by Votto.
  11. Ok I was slightly wrong, look a few posts down for a more correct post about it.
  12. Cubs & Rockies host Brewers; Cards host Cubs; Brewers host Cards, Dodgers, Phillies
  13. MLB in general has a .902 OPS when swinging at the first pitch compared to an .757 OPS overall.
  14. Are we talking about what is the case right now? If so, Gallardo is certainly not as good as Hill, and Villanueva is nowhere close to Lilly. If we're talking about potential then I guess we can also say that Pie >= Corey Hart too. Gallardo has a career 103 ERA+, Hill has a 104 ERA+ and Gallardo's is extremely heavily influenced by one bad start in Colorado. Lilly is career 102 ERA+, Villaneuva is career 106. I mean so far in their short careers stats support them being pretty even and from a pure potential standpoint a strong case can be made for them being better.
  15. I don't really agree with this, the Cubs defense is far superior, I don't think the pitching is really better. Sheets >= Zambrano (unless Z turns things around in a hurry at least) Gallardo = Hill Villaneuva very well could = Lilly Bush >= Marquis Suppan >= Trachsel The Cubs ERA will be better because of fielding but I don't think the actual pitching is much better. Cordero, Turnbow, Shouse, Linebrink match up decently with the top end of the Cubs bullpen too. A lot of that Brewer ERA was built by Capuano and Vargas who have been upgraded at this point.

    Ugh...

I fear that the Padres will clinch their playoff spot early and sit Peavy and/or Young and others in the last 2 games against the Brewers. The Brewers have shown they are very capable of beating good teams at home, I'm more worried about the road games.
  17. I guess I am lumping potential in with current talent and maybe that was my mistake, if they meant for this season alone then I think things are pretty even. The Brewers will not pick up a starter for next year. Sheets, Suppan, Villaneuva, Gallardo, Bush with Parra to fill in for anyone who is hurt is what they will go with almost for sure. Sheets = Zambrano Gallardo = Hill Bush >= Marquis Lilly ?? Villaneuva is the biggest question mark for me. Well that and the terrible defense which isn't going to be fixed.
  18. Ok I realize this is going to be highly controversial and I really do not mean it at a troll in any way. I was going to just post it at the Brewer forum but I realized I would get even more biased opinions there. Tonight I was watching the Cubs game on ESPN and they stated that without a doubt the Cubs have the most talent in the division and that it was a huge shock that the Cubs were not running away with the division. At first I just laughed to myself because to me that statement is just ridiculous, the Brewers have the most talent in the division without question. The cubs have more experience, they have a better manager but more talent? The huge gaping flaw in the Brewer team is lack of experience and not getting the job done in close games, not talent. If both rosters stayed 100% stagnant for say the next 3 years, do you really think the Cubs would be the better team? To me it seems a no brainer, the Brewers have so much talent its just sickening they just need to turn that talent into actual wins which is the real trick and one that may never come to fruition Am i just wearing the Brewer blinders or was this case number 10,000 of the ESPN analysts being clueless?
  19. It's been pretty obvious that Guillen is at least his equal, and a cursory look at the numbers tells you Carlos is better. Guillen - 23, 8, 26, 18 WS Jeter - 26, 26, 33, 20 WS Guillen - 102, 42, 107, 89 RC Jeter - 99, 106, 138, 97 RC Guillen is underrated for sure but he still hasn't been as valuable as Jeter over the last 4 years partially because of the fact he gets banged up some every year but also because OBP is more valuable than SLG and Jeter has had close to .400 OBP over the past 3 years.
  20. Maybe for full seasons but his monthly stats are just all over the place, a lot like Zito. Zambrano generally has 2-3 completely dominant best pitcher in baseball type months a year mixed with some pretty average to downright bad months. ERA by month for the past 3 years... 4.31 2.40 5.79 2.11 1.74 4.19 5.35 1.90 1.96 4.15 3.63 4.03 5.77 4.72 2.53 1.38 7.06 Now compare to someone more consistent like Oswalt 3.25 3.20 1.40 2.03 5.81 2.93 2.76 3.49 3.72 3.09 3.38 1.85 3.43 3.29 3.55 4.41 1.14
  21. BP which knows a lot more about baseball than SI lists the Cubs as having the 10th best rotation out of contenders. Thing is they have the 2nd or 3rd best fielding which has been the teams biggest strength this season. Thehardballtimes agrees with this posted on their dartboard rankings...
  22. Yost takes Braun out just about every time they have a lead like that. He switched him out of the game against the Cubs (Wednesday night) in the late innings when they had the lead. Yeah its not a huge deal, he needs time off and thats one way to get it for him and he is just brutal on defense. That had little to do with the Loss though. It was bringing in the guy with a 6 ERA over the past 3 years who just came up from the minors to pitch the biggest at bat of the game that cost the team.
  23. That doesn't bother me all that much. We had a 3 run lead, Braun is a horrible fielder. Now using the 15th best pitcher on the team to try to get out Pence with the game on the line... that bothers me. I mean a smart person uses Cordero even though its the 8th but I know managers refuse to use closers properly. At least leave in Shouse instead of going to Greg Aquino.
  24. The Pirates beat the Cards with the Pirates ACE on the mound The Astros beat the Crew with the Astros ACE on the mound... You'd think the Cubs would have a good chance of winning with their "ACE" on the mound against someone who's on the downhill side of his career...but no, our "ACE" sucks! This is a huge loss! Now that the Pirates and Stros can throw the rest of their crappy rotation out against the Cards and Crew...I don't think there's much hope for the rest of those series for Cub fans. And don't think it gets any easier for us...remember that guy Penny?? Yeah, he goes tomorrow.. Don't worry, Yost will find a way to make the Brewers lose no matter. There is a very tangible reason the team has 15 come from behind losses of 3+ runs this year, he has no clue at all how to run a bullpen. The Cubs have won the division as far as I'm concerned, the Cardinals don't have the talent right now and Yost renders the Brewers talent impotent.
  25. Another day, another game pissed down the tubes by the complete mismanagement by Ned Yost. Thats at least 5 or 6 games you can hang directly on his head this season now. Gee, we are up by 2 with 2 runners and 1 out, how about I take out our best RP on the year and put in some guy just brought up from AAA... smart move buddy.
