    NL MVP?

Not if you adjust for stadiums... Fielde would hit 200 HR's and drive in 10,000 in that park.

    NL MVP?

With #49 and #50 tonight I have to think Fielder is back on the map. That youngest player to ever hit 50 HR's is a great story and the carrying him on his back down the stretch is something voters eat up. I of course mean carrying them on his back... anyone who carried HIM on their back would die.
  3. Yes you can go into the play index (PI) and search for all those criteria. Ted Williams was #1 with a 235 OPS+. The rest of the list is blocked until #134 because I don't have a subscription. #134 is George Scott with a 139 OPS+ in 1967.
  4. It would not surprise me if the Brewers go 7-0 the rest of the way. Cameron and Bradley are both out so the Padres have next to no offense left. Young has been bad since his injury and I still don't think Peavy will pitch in the series. Now I'm not saying to expect 7-0 but it will not be a surprise if it happens either. The problem is I think even if the Brewers go 7-0 the Cubs still take the division.

    NL MVP?

He should get a few votes. Gold Glove for 3B will be between him and Rammy, imo The way gold glove voting goes it wouldn't surprise me if Braun won it. In all seriousness my guess is Wright wins it because of his reputation.
  6. Let me preface this by saying yes I'm a Brewer fan but yes I am cheering for the Cubs come playoff time because there is no other NL team I'm a big fan of and I"d rather keep it in the division. I'm just curious do Cubs fans like Ron Santo as an announcer or do you think he's as bad as I do? He's nowhere near as bad as the White Sox guys but I still can't stand listening to him. I mean I hate the Brewers TV announcers so I know not everyone always loves the home town guys, just curious if he is well thought of or not?
  7. without the injury or caring about W's its Bedard with no doubt in my mind. Since he got hurt and W's seem to matter my money is on Beckett.

    NL MVP?

yeah with no injury Utley seems the obvious choice. Holliday isn't even in the running for me since he's only barely above average outside of Coors. I like him but he's a product of that park, its like making Bichette the MVP.

    NL MVP?

I think Fielder would have been the choice had the Brewers come in 1st. If the Phillies catch the Mets I bet Howard wins it again, he has just been huge down the stretch. If the Mets hold them off I could see Wright winning it.
  10. Every call on the day has gone against us so I'm not too surprised. They were all pretty close calls though.
  11. What happened with Paulino? Gameday says he struck out on 'an automatic strike'.
  12. Heh, they have fielded poorly, they just have been lucky for the most part not to give up runs because of it. Of course last nights game winning run was because of the error on Weeks stopping the double play, so its played its part.
  13. Because the Brewers don't have poor pitching. They are around average for ERA and they have the 3rd best FIP of any team in the NL. They have bad fielding, not bad pitching.
  14. Truly funny, silly stuff. I notice you haven't really refuted any of this. I think you picked the wrong guy. Francoeur is making $427K this year. That is a hell of a value for his production. To break down his stats, exactly how many runs did he cost his team with his paltry .335 OBP? And since your the one proclaiming that his low OBP offset his clutch hitting and RBI totals, please explain your rationale. Sorry I did not mean to bring money into the equation at all. An example could be Bobby Abreu. Francoeur has more RBI than Abreu but there is no way he was a better player this year, not even close. Pujols has 96 RBI, he also had a way better year than Francoeur does. Just because he has 101 RBI does not somehow define his value, its a counting stat that is largely out of the players control. Low OBP sluggers are a classic example of guys whose RBI totals misrepresent their actual value to the team.
  15. Truly funny, silly stuff. Yep, all players with 101 RBI are exactly as good as each other, OBP, OPS etc doesn't matter... you caught me. We should just sort all players by RBI and then you have the best to worst players. I guess I fail to see what you found silly about the post, one liners almost always fail to convey anything useful so its not too surprising. Well the simplist case is someone like Geoff Jenkins who stinks vs lefties and has to face them a lot with RISP (or at least did before he started platooning) thus skewing their numbers.
  16. Well there is more to driving in runs than just OPS. A guy like Carlos Lee always gets a lot of RBI because he doesn't K that much and ends up with a lot of sac flies etc. He also hits lefties and righties well so you can't play the splits against him very well in important situations. That doesn't change the fact that RBI is a weak stat though, it doesn't really tell you anything about a hitter by itself. Francoeur is not a great hitter but he has over 100 RBI this season because he had a ton of guys on when he came up to bat. his low OBP has cost the team enough runs to more or less offset his RBI totals and his overall value is certainly not as high as some other guys with fewer RBI.
  17. If you want to look at this properly you really need guys who have at least 2000 PA's with RISP not just 3000 PA's total. It takes a lot of data for the data to be meaningful. You also need to compare it to league average or it has no meaning. In 2007 baseball as a whole has put up the following stats... .268/.336/.422/.758 With runners on it has the stats... .276/.350/.429/.779 With RISP... .271/.356/.423/.779 Close and late... .253/.331/.390/.721 When you compare Ramirez's stats to league average his career numbers are just about exactly in line with expectations. Yeah his RISP is slightly better than expected but its only 1361 PA's which isn't close to a large enough sample to draw solid conclusions from and at least part of it is from the IBB's that pump up power guys OBP more than other players with men on. A lot of studies have been done on clutch and they pretty much have all been inconclusive. If there are players who are clutch over a large sample they are very rare and they are only barely more clutch than anyone else. There does seem to be some anti clutch guys though, especially guys with nasty platoon splits.
  18. Brewers have lost about 15 games like this on the season now so if they were going to lose confidence it would have happened already. Just a combination of poor defense and bad management.
  19. The Brewers really deserve to lose this game at this point, failing to get in a runner from 3rd with 1 out. Swinging at ball 4 to fail to score a run. All the dumb bunt calls by Yost. This team can be very frustrating to watch as a fan.
  20. That was only the 2nd HR hit off Cordero this season. The Brewers have pretty much crap left in the bullpen to try to finish this thing off. Seth McClung is probably the guy.
  21. Yost putting the bunt on with 2 strikes again, can't believe the Brewers are over .500 with this joker as a manager.
  22. Yeah with the Cubs and Brewers both playing well the winner of the division won't look like such a joke. I was getting worried someone was gonna take the division with 81 wins in August.
