  1. My prediction is the Brewers are up by 3 games after the home stands, but then they give it right back on the next road trip. That keeps happening the rest of the season and one of the teams takes 1st (no clue which).
  2. Its funny, I posted the same thing about the Cubs today, heh. Zambrano is done with his hot streak, Marquis and Marshall are regressing, Hill hasn't looked great and Lilly will wear down since he hasn't pitched 200 IP even once in his career. I think the Cubs pitching wears down and they miss the playoffs. Wise looks like he is over the beaning now, Linebrink has looked great. Turnbow, Cordero are back to being dominant and the entire Brewer starting rotation has underperformed all year and is looking better as of late. I imagine the truth is somewhere in between those two paragraphs but I think both sides can agree that anyone is better than the Cardinals in 1st place!
  3. Arroyo has been terrible this year so missing him is no big deal.

    90 wins?

No team is ever expected to sweep another. Even the best team against the worst team is more likely to be a 2-1 than a 3-0. Expecting the Cubs to sweep three teams including one on the road is probably not being fair to the team.
  5. I'd say there is a pretty strong correlation between Soriano's June hot streak and the Cubs playing well in June. July was just a case of the Cubs being lucky though(offensively at least, the pitching was still good), the team had a .700 OPS and scored as many runs as the top hitting teams did, thats just a lot of things bouncing right for you. The funniest stat on the year is the 8th hitters though. The Cub's #8 hitters have a combined .582 OPS. Their #9 hitters have a combined .528 OPS! A few good pinch hits or a HR or two by Zambrano and the #8 slot becomes the least productive spot on the team!
  6. The scorer decides what is and isn't caught stealing and they get it wrong a lot of the time.
  7. Its very impressive to see Jenks go 13 2/3 IP without a walk much less without a hit either.
  8. Soriano is a fine signing, the contract just wasn't good. Too many $$'s and too many years.
  9. Howry is by far the best RP on the pen and yes I have watched Marmol pitch. If I were to pick a closer out of that bunch it would be Howry in a pinch, since May 15th or so he has been one of the best RP's in baseball.

    90 wins?

yep, if the team hits .381 with 3 doubles, a triple and a HR every game the rest of the year the Cubs will be in good shape.
  11. Not that its in the same realm, but Graffanino is done for the season for the Brewers with a torn ACL. Dave Roberts suffered some sort of leg injury today. Travis Hafner left the indians game with a knee problem. When it rains it pours.
  12. That is a quote from another forum and is obviously not reliable so take with a truckload of salt.
  13. Yeah I have to agree with Have a Seat, Neifi. The Cubs in July were lucky to be over .500 with that offense, just a case of how short term situational offense can carry a team. The real key is the pitching isn't as strong this month, when combined with the hitting its getting ugly. Unfortunately the Brewers look even worse than the Cubs right now, heh.
  14. Rockies have now scored 27 runs in their last 7 innings, heh.
  15. The Cubs are not a very good team, its the simple truth. The Brewers aren't very good either. I think both of those teams would struggle to be .500 in the West or East, but they are in the central so one of them will win the division. Its pretty much up in the air which one does as far as I'm concerned.
  16. Hawpe yard. 4-0 Rockies in the 1st.
  17. Did he get yelled at for swinging at three bad pitches last AB or something, that was brutal.
  18. Astros announcer said Hill has the lowest run support of any pitcher in baseball this season.
  19. 10 run inning for the Cardinals. They are doing their best to make the Cubs the #1 pitching staff in the NL.
  20. Berkman, Lane and Lee... now that is an ugly fielding OF.
  21. What a strange AB, Wandy throws 2 strikes and 3 balls. Murton swings and misses at all 3 balls and both strikes he takes and they are called balls.
  22. Texas is looking to trade Sosa....
  23. I was sure CC Sabathia was out for the year when he took that ball off his hand the first game of the season and he didn't end up missing any time at all. Generally safest to just wait for something more concrete (though I guess I might bench him in my weekly lineup fantasy team).
  24. If the game were 90% mental then talent really wouldn't matter at all and gritty guys like Eckstein and Counsell would be league MVP's all the time and headcases like Manny Ramirez wouldn't be on a team. There is a mental aspect to the game for sure, but its nowhere near 90% of the game. Like I said at best I think its 40% and that is being generous. A no talent mentally tough player is not going anywhere, a mentally weak talented player is still probably in the majors, he just isn't as good as he should be.
  25. I'm pretty much numb to these losses now. We have had 7 walk off losses this year and a few blown games like this as well.
