  1. Zambrano -pitched poorly since hes been back Dempster -back to being the Dumpster Harden-new contract Wells-sophmore season (jinx?) Lilly-contract year (usually a big season) We may have a 2006esque with him
  2. Why? As a GM he traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano. No he didnt. To be more specific, Phillips was fired as Mets' GM about a year before the trade. Phillips was fired in June 2003; the trade was in June 2004. I stand corrected,it was Jim Duquette.
  3. John Lackey and Jason Marquis are probably the top free agent starters. For a team that needs a top starter,a 3/30 plus incentives for Harden is not that big of a gamble. If he would have been healthy his whole career,he would be looking at a long term deal. Examples would be Kevin Brown, Mike Hampton, Carl Pavano, Jason Schmidt, Barry Zito etc. I feel an 8 year deal for a pitcher thats been healthy is a bigger risk than giving a guy like Harden 3 years.
  4. A jumbotron will bring in more money so Hendry can overpay his new additions.
  5. They had a very good record with Hill starting a couple of years ago too! But,they felt the need to bring in Paul Bako. Thankfully, Hill got a chance.
  6. When Phillips talks about a player, I'm reminded of Victor Zambrano.
  7. Lets see over the past 5 seasons he has pitched 128, 46, 25, 148, and is on pace for about 150 innings this season. There is no way in hell he would command an 8 year deal if he was healthy this season. This is the most healthy he has been in 5 years, and the worst season he has had over that time. I love the guy and would like to keep him, but other teams are not going to be throwing bags of cash at him in this economy this offseason. I meant injury free throughout his career.
  8. Wells has limited range in center, less power, and has injury problems. But,he strikes out less. Both have poor on base percentages. The Jays would have to chip in some money to consider it. Wells probably has a no trade clause like Soriano that would have to be waived.
  9. Those are all concerns, but high ceiling prospects aren't mediocre. High risk/high reward is a much better description of Gaub and Archer (moreso Archer than Gaub). I don't see how Stevens - who is a legit major league arm - is anywhere close to mediocre, though. Gaub looks to have the highest ceiling. Stevens seems to project to be more of a middle reliever.
  10. If they can move him, eating a part of the contract, they should. That money can be spent elsewhere. Even if he got back to 2007-08 levels, hes not worth the 5/100 that is due. For now, they need to keep him out of the lineup. If Fox or Fuld are playing well, let them play.
  11. He's a potential number one. Long term deals for pitchers are a gamble. If he would have been injury free,he would command around an 8 year deal at top dollar. When you consider how the long term deals for starters have worked out in the past,Harden for 3 years is a small gamble. A 3/30 with incentives might be low.
  12. I considered them mediocre because of age ,injury concerns, and not being rated in the organizations top 15. They have all done well this year, and will rate higher next year.
  13. The White Sox are losing, so I get to hear Hawk pout. Felix Pie has a homer and a sf today! Rangers up 3-0 to the Rays going into the 9th on TBS with Chip Caray announcing.
  14. I'd rather have a 18 mil part time player sucking on the bench than sucking on the field, thank you very much! Exactly. Now all that needs to be done is to get Piniella to believe that.
  15. The 3 picks were for Jacque Jones, Scott Eyre, and Bob Howry. Stevens is old for a prospect,he'll be 26 next month, Gaub has had 2 shoulder surgeries, and Archer has had control problems. None of the 3 were top 15 prospects in the Cleveland organization. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/majors/trade-central/2008/267390.html
  16. Basically every move Hendry made the last offseason was bad.
  17. Giving up 3 picks in the 06 draft and trading DeRosa and others for mediocre prospects instead of picks has me wondering how much he values picks.
  18. The earlier reports I saw had the Cubs system rated in the middle 20's. Sure theres reason to hope, but there usually is. I'm not sure that Hendry values the picks as much as we do.
  19. I'm an ND fan who thinks 23 is about right. They have alot of returning players and a very soft schedule.Their talent is at wide receiver. The rest of the positions have players returning who have a ways to go. They came to ND highly rated, but haven't produced to their supposed talent level. Of course Coach Lou has predicted a Florida/ND title game...
  20. In his contract year,probably a coincidence.
  21. I didn't realize that Cashner was moved to AA. There's hope, but these guys are still most likely a year away if everything goes according to plan. The list was shown to display how many Cub first rounders actually make it. The rate of baseball first rounders making it is pretty low. Losing picks 2-4 didn't help, but so far the 2006 draft doesn't look to exciting.
  22. no one seems to be impressed with him anymore. Last place in year 2....
  23. I'm sure Harden will probably get a big offer in free agency. If they Cubs want him, they're gonna have to come up with some money somewhere. If they can get better value than the two picks, they have to consider it. Better value would be a top prospect thats less than a year away, not 3 mediocre prospects with ceilings of a middle reliever.
