  1. I wonder if Carlos is going to wear the shoes tomorrow now?
  2. Let me preface this by saying that I think Cuban would be a great choice. However, defending his ability to run a business really doesn't do much to further his cause to non-believers, especially in the Cubs case. The man is going to make an obscene amount of money with the Cubs no matter what he does; the question is, is he going to run his business like Jeffrey Loria or like Steinbrenner? And by like Jeffrey Loria, I would mean keep the payroll the same and not drastically change the team. Loria makes a ton of money by selling his young players high at the cost of the team's (continued) success. My finance major friend says he's the best owner in baseball because of his business savvy. I think he's an a-hole. I think its an extremely important point though for Bud Selig and all of the other owners voting for approval as well. Cuban has taken an operating loss several years (almost an 18 million dollar loss last season) on the Mavericks yet the franchise value continues to improve vs. the rest of the league. Cuban's business approach is still geared long term, nothing short term, and nothing that will impact the team in any given season. So no there is no comparison to Loria what so ever.
  3. Not sure how Fulham did it, but its a miracle. Manu deserved the title this season as much as I hate it. Actually Ronaldo deserved the title more than anyone else. I hope he has a big trophy case with all the awards he will be taking home.
  4. Legal reasons, make sure he doesn't have any unknown illnesses, injuries, etc. Also, to get the contract insured. Maybe Hanley realizes how godawful his defense is? yeah, thats probably the main reason.
  5. Mayo is now being linked to receiving gifts while still in HS and while at USC. The NCAA would probably be better served stationing investigators permanently on campus at USC. In other non-breaking news we have all assumed for the past year... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3390695

    Week 6

11 point lead, with no starts remaining for either of us. Offense has been pretty week for both us, with Lee and Utley posting their worst combined week of the season so far.
  7. looked like a very good ab on gamecast :-)
  8. Wood should begin every game with a pitch over the catchers head around 97+ just to screw with the hitter.
  9. So in 2000, Cuban bought the Mavericks for $285million. They were worth at the time $167million and the 23rd most valuable franchise out of 29 teams. Last season they were worth $463 million, good for #3 on the list. [greenfont]Clearly he doesn't know how to operate a business. Not to mention having only mediocre success with every other business venture he has ever taken on.[greenfont]
  10. Me too, I live in Texas, why would I give a damn about these two teams. Not to mention two sub .500 teams at that. Maybe it will get rained out and they will have to move to another game.
  11. Legal reasons, make sure he doesn't have any unknown illnesses, injuries, etc. Nothing wrong with the deal on Hanley's side, I am willing to bet he came from almost nothing and he is only losing 3 years of FA. Three weeks from if he didn't sign the extension and had a season ending injury people would be making fun of him for not taking the $70 million guaranteed and calling him greedy. He has security for the rest of his life and his kids life, and his grandkids life, I don't blame him one bit .

    Week 6

Navin, Lincecum and Pettitte will give you 8 starts this week. Thought I would let you know so you could pick who you wanted, but I assume its Lincecum who goes first.
  13. It would be great if the Reds signed him to replace Patterson.
  14. Seriously, group C is the most ridiculous group of death I've ever seen. I don't see Italy missing out though. I think it'll be your Dutch boys or France. Me too, and probably Holland at that. Holland will either reach the finals or crash out in the first round. Not only is their group brutal, they get Italy 1st, then France 2nd. I look at the Dutch roster and I see so much potential not to mention what seems like Seedorf's 8th straight straight Euro's. I think Holland will go as far as Arjen Robben can take them. They have the strikers, but Robben is the spark plug. I forgot to say it again, "Screw You Italy"
  15. We got a bar here that opens around 9am. Not sure when they start serving though. I don't think anyone really imagine Greece winning the last Euro's. Portugal finally had a good WC last time around, Spain should be very very good. If I had to pick today this is who I have moving on, though I really have no clue. Group A Czech Republic Portugal Switzerland Turkey Group B Austria Croatia Germany Poland Group C France Italy Netherlands Romania Group D Greece Russia Spain Sweden Thats right, screw you Italy!!!
  16. badass indeed. i'm only counting 4 games that only available on espn deportes. i'm really excited for this thing to start. i'm a england fan, so i obviously don't have an rooting interest this year, but i'm looking forward to quality footie. Not sure if you already have an outfit picked out: http://www.goethals.us/nonsense/images/uploads/fans-dutch.jpg
  17. Hopefully Dallas and Turco can get off to a good start tonight, a game 1 win would be huge. Damn VS. channel. Now I don't get the game in HD like I do when its on locally.
  18. I just hope we can get through the majority of the paperwork and processes to have this thing completed by Christmas.
  19. I would love to hear him come out and say that he fell for a slumpbuster.
  20. I like the fact that MB has an edge to him, but he needs to keep it in check a little better. Not sure how I feel about Deuce signing a two year extension prior to securing safety in the Prem, or signing it at all. Kind of just wanted to see him on a bigger club. The extension actually gives Fulham more leverage in any transfer deal. Thats true, didn't think of that.

  22. You could get the best player at every position except catcher and it'd still be a bad trade. You could probably get a package of Jesus, Superman, and Babe Ruth in his prime and it would be a bad trade. Seriously why was this question even asked?
  23. if the calls go nearly 2 to 1 against us like they did in the montreal series, there's no way we beat pittsburgh. we beat montreal because biron played very well and their goalies were pretty lousy. there are no signs that fleury will crack like price did. i hope it is a good series (likely) with good officiating (highly unlikely). i'm much less optimistic about our chances than i was the year that we lost to tampa in 7 games in the e.c. finals. and i don't even want to get into the 2000 e.c. finals, that still burns as bad as the cubs' 2003 flame out. 2 Things. Both Anehiem and San Jose are better teams than Pittsburgh. Dallas beat both of them. If Pittsburgh plays Detroit, I am sure that Crosby and Malkin will see plenty of Lidstrom, Rafalski, Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Will they have the puck enough to score? So I certainly wouldnt give Pittsburgh the Stanley Cup just yet. Also Biron has been really good. Truffle I didnt watch the whole series between Montreal and the Flyers, but what I saw I would say the officiating wasnt that bad. Not any worse than any other series that I watched. It usually ends up going both ways also. Overall I think NHL officiating isnt very good, especially in the playoffs where they change the rules. But I dont think its any worse for the Flyers than anyone else. Dallas has played extremely well in the playoffs. The series against Detroit should be very good. I am pretty much cheering for any team other than Detroit to win too. Hopefully its Dallas, but we will see.
  24. I just read it, it was great.
