    Golf

I think they have some really good closeout prices. I went and bought a set of Cleveland TA6 demo's that were barely used for just over $200. at a shop, which is another way to get them. http://www.globalgolf.com/promos/clearance/-/ptmj--4/closeout-golf-clubs.aspx
  2. Hopefully by July we will see a lot more separation than what is going on right now. Can see a lot of teams not wanting to become sellers that probably should be.
  3. I do agree with this, pitching needs to be at the forefront, and not a back of the rotation type of guy. Someone like Burnett. Ibanez is simply someone who could be inexpensive and improve the depth of our everyday lineup. Our offense has been good, but the lineup could be tweaked.
  4. Worst picture ever. Pau looks like he should have a wooden club in his hand and pulling a woman by his hair. http://images.sportsline.com/u/photos/basketball/nba/img10837699.jpg
  5. If you could swing a Marshall and Murton for Ibanez I would have no problem with that. The Mariners won't be getting gold for a 35 year old OF in the last year of his contract. Like mentioned earlier, he is a very good player that would complement the Cubs lineup well but he is not a superstar by any stretch.
  6. Torres should be able to pick up right where he left off. The incredible news here is that the Brewers are *STILL* holding out hope he will be a miracle. They're not even DLing the guy. He should be relegated to the deepest, darkest corner of Miller Park. But Yost is intent on giving his club the least possible chance to win, so he'll be trotted back out there again, and sooner rather than later. It's getting to be quite comical. I like the "holding out hope" part. They should be holding out hope that Gagne's shoulder spontaneously explodes. I'm still holding out hope the Yost will be given a long term extension this coming off-season.
  7. So does this mean that Farnsworth is now the setup man to Rivera #-o
  8. 6.5 million this season, and then his contract is done. Given his age and contract status I don't think he should cost a whole lot.
  9. Doesn't exactly play CF like we could use, but if Fukudome is willing to do it for the rest of this season. He is in the last year of his contract. He's a lefty, could come for not real expensive given he is 35, never really strikes out. Plug him in RF. Soriano Fuku Lee Ramirez Soto Ibanez Derosa Theriot Kind of a long shot, he should become available.
  10. maddux, glavine, and johnson are 100% 1st ballot no question. the other 3 probably get in a year or 2 later. though it's a crime if any of them (with the possible exception of schilling) don't make it right away. I don't see how Glavine ranks ahead of the others. He's not in Maddux's or the Unit's class. i agree. but 300 wins = first ballot in the minds of sportswriters. If that's the case, then sportswriters are very narrow-minded. Don't they realize that a pitcher's W/L record is mostly out of their control? Generally speaking it's going to even out over the course of a guy's career. I completely agree on not judging how good a player is over a single season by how many wins he got but if a player gets or approaches 300 wins, in this day and age, he's at least a good pitcher. You don't luck into getting 15-20 wins per year for 15+ years. One or two years, sure, but not for a career. Obviously there are better measures for evaluating how good a pitcher was but with 250-300 wins, I don't think you can just dismiss that like you can for a single season. What if he loses 290? It's just a pet peeve of mine that not only do people overemphasize W/L record, but they always refer to pitchers by how many wins they are capable of in a season, while ignoring the losses. A 15 game winner is a 15 game winner whether he went 15-16 or 15-6. A record of 16-14 is given more respect than somebody who only wins 11 but goes 11-3. It makes no sense. Look at Nolan Ryan, he's a pretty decent example of a pitcher who had nice numbers but not so nice on the win percentage thing. Who was the last pitcher to throw 300+ innings? I really don't know, looking at Ryan's stats in the 70's and throwing as many innings as he did loses back then are different than they are now. From 72-79 he had 156 Complete Games out of 288 starts and avg. 7.1 innings per start.

    Week 8

While his starters are doing very well this week yours really aren't doing anything. 10 points per start avg isn't going to win you many games regardless of what you opponent is doing.
  12. Does this put Sheets next in the DL line?
  13. You are weird. i was going to say something about it, and then i saw the his slg is all the way down to 431. i wouldn't say that i'm "not at all impressed," but he really needs to start hitting for some power. No he doesn't. Lou needs to move him out of the No. 5 spot. What Kosuke's done so far this year has been more than acceptable. Sure, it would be nice if he had 8-10 HR's right now and a .500+ slugging percentage. But I'm not going to complain about him as long as that OBP remains where it is. I don't think he was brought over here to become a slugger for the team, and given that we have 4 guys that will likely hit 30+ HR's we really don't need him to be. Sure it would be great, but we need him to be an on base run scoring machine.
  14. I wouldn't worry about that. He's shown in the past that if there is a deal out there to make us better he'll do it. I'm just worried that he won't identify starting pitching as a need, citing the presence of Lieber, Gallagher, Marshall, Marquis, Hart as depth. I don't think he'll recognize that our pitching staff might not compare well with other potential playoff rotations. I think Hill being sent down and being replaced by Gallagher and not Lieber shows their could be weakness. Seriously I am more than sure that Hendry realizes everything this board thinks he doesn't, he is no where close to the idiot people think he is. If he has the ability to make a significant trade he will do so. Even prior to the opening day he was attempting to make the team better.
  15. It almost looks like the Padres season ended last year against the Rockies in the 13th inning.
  16. Thanks. I think he'll move upstairs. I'm curious as to what Roman is doing today?
  17. Its a very stupid park, not a bad place to watch the game but a stupid park.

    Week 8

I get the feeling we are going to see a lot of roller coasters this season.
  19. I hate the hesitation so much, and it without a doubt was the leading factor into him missing. Why even do it he is too a of a player to need to even consider doing it. I feel really really bad for John Terry, that is something that will haunt him personally for the rest of his life. The shootout was actually fun not giving a damn about either team. Drogba is simply an idiot.
  20. Agree, especially for what is being proposed. There is probably a better chance of the Cubs trading Soto before the Giants trade Lincecum. They are not a small market team, they don't need to trade one of the 3 best young pitchers in the game for extra parts. It makes zero sense.
  21. Thats tough. Which piece of crap smells the prettiest. I think I might go with EJ simply because he could be a detriment to the team in training camp.
  22. Its still a little early in the voting process. I would expect to see him close the gap in the next week or two. How much though is tough to tell. I am pretty sure Vance is doing his part.
