  1. Im going to say the Cubs win the bid for Igawa. I like the fact in attacks the hitters very aggressively. Sounds like a Mark Buehrle with the average fastball, solid changeup, and the breaking ball he can throw in any count.
  2. That's an interesting scenario, but the Red Sox would either need a lot of young cheap talent or they would need a team to pitch in a large portion of the 51 million they used to post him. Could the Dodgers trade Penny and a young OF guy for him? Why would the Dodgers trade Brad Penny? Brad Penny just dominated hitter's in the first half of the season. He would cost less than Matsuzaka will also.
  3. I know he had 9A in 123 games for Minnesota in 2005.
  4. Because he is playing 10ft off the infield. If Pierre was playing LF in Boston he would have as many assists as Manny would have.
  5. I don't sew why he would be any worse than Jones was in right. Jones may be able to get to the ball quicker, but he cant throw it into the infield to save his life. Manny may not get to the ball as fast but he has a cannon. So its a trade off, in my opinion. Manny has a horrible throwing arm. I disagree. Everyone who plays LF in Boston looks like they have a strong arm. Ramirez is awful when he throws the ball. Not only does he have a poor throwing arm, but he is not even accurate with his throws.

It can't be as bad as Jacque's based on the number of assists he's had in recent years, especially compared to our OF last year. He has all of those assists because he is playing 10 feet away from the infield.

  8. He'd drive in more runs than he would give up due to poor defense. That makes his defense a moot point, imo. I dont see how his defense wouldn't hurt the Cubs. They already have very weak SP as it is right now. If they go into next season with a staff that they have now, they cannot afford to give up uneared runs to the opponents day in day out. If you're going to put Manny in a Cubs unifrom, he will be playing LF not RF. I don't see how Murton will have a tuff time making the move to RF.
  9. Many Ramirez in RF? He has trouble playing LF in Boston with that big green monster behind him. Ramirez benefits with having that green monster behind because he doesn't have to run that far to catch a fly ball. Putting Ramirez in Wrigley with those different wind currents would kill his defense. That being said, I would love to see his bat in the Cubs lineup.
  10. Throw a lot of money at him and hope he bites? With the guaranteed contracts in the NFL and taking min 6 years to get to free agency, hes going to have to turn down like a sure 20M to play for the cubs. the NFL has guaranteed contracts? I didn't think they did. The NFL does not have guranteed contracts.
  11. SS and the catcher position are the most important for defense. But I agree that CF will be an important spot on defense for the Cubs with Soriano and Murton at the corners.
  12. seriously, how can people be so close minded to everything and anything new? It's not about being close minded. I can appreciate new age thinking on baseball, and on anything else. It's about people getting so wrapped up in different statistics that they focus more on a formula than they do on the actual game. It's just annoying, that's all. Post of the year.
  13. Since when could Theriot play CF?
  14. Those statistics aren't very important at all, especially RBI and R which are almost completely worthless. SB has some value, but Soriano gets himself out on the bases so much that he doesn't exactly provide a ton of value with his baserunning. How the hell are RBI and R almost completely worthless? Is VORP, Isod, Ipod, Ihop, PMS better ways to judge a player? they're worthless because they are team-contingent. and to anwer your question, it's very likely that one could come up with a stat with the "PMS" acronym that would be more telling. but it wouldn't be from the dead-ball era so you would likely dismiss it. Good one.
  15. Because when Soriano steals a bag, it's really hurting our offense! That's as silly a response as "Because when Soriano strikes out, it's really helping out offense! " Neither of these statements have anything to do with what he posted. try harder. He obviously didn't understand what I meant by that. I subscribe to the feeling having a nagging threat on the bases clogs a pitchers mind. If you or he do not agree with that, please don't mock with your holier than though attitute and talk to posters like they are dumb just because they beleive something other than what you THINK you know is true. That bolded part is very true.

  17. According to MLB Radio on XM Satellite Radio and the San Diego Tribune the Cubs have offered Barry Zito a 5 year contract worth around 60 million dollars. http://mb9.scout.com/fchicagocubsfrm1.showMessage?topicID=29675.topic Not sure if there is any truth to this rumor.
  18. Schmidt is going to get a huge contract from some team.
  19. I would be happy with either Meche or Padilla.
  20. Jason Schmidt has one of the largest strides for a pitcher. http://in2spin.tripod.com/in2spin/IMG_2900.jpg His shoulders are perfectly squared up to the plate.
  21. CF should be easier to play than LF and RF. You can see the ball coming off the bat better, and you're always seeing where the catcher is setting up behind the plate.
  22. Defense doesn't matter. Petition to ban rolleyes because I'm really tempted to use it. No one ever said defense doesn't matter. I wish that were the case. Will this be the thread where you finally use evidence to support your claim? no quotes allowed! No, like always he dissapears when someone asks him to provide tangible support. It's easier than actually having proof for your statements. What the hell are you talking about? I really don't feel like looking for the direct quote. The discussion was on how I believe pitching and defense wins championships. When I mentioned defense was very important for a team success towards winning a championship, this individual said defense does not matter.
