  1. Most of the lineup is going to be bad, but 2-3-4-5 is going to be very very good. Very Very Good, Eh? How then does a 2-3-4-5 of Soriano, Lee, Ramirez, Fukudome look to you? The only one of those were the Cardinals are better would be potentially needing surgery. And if "most of the lineup is going to be bad," how then can EXACTLY HALF of the everyday players be described as very very good? The Cubs 2-5 also look very very good, no doubt. Most of the lineup is going to be bad even though half of it is going to be very very good is because contrary to popular belief, in the National League, the pitcher still has to bat. That would make 5 of the 9 hitters in the lineup bad. This is comical in many ways. I guess I should expect this from a team who bats the pitcher 8th. But I especially love the marriage to the second and totally unnecessary "very." Starting a sentence with a conjunction and the unnecessary "totally?" Lay low for awhile because the other Grammar Police Department officers might be looking for you.
  2. Gibson picks up his 4th foul, not good for USC.
  3. Nope. He's a decent enough complimentary player though. And hopefully he'll be closer to the .340 OBP area for at least a little while. Fair enough. And FWIW, I'm hoping for the Cards 2-5 to be Barton, Pujols, Duncan, Glaus.
  4. Most of the lineup is going to be bad, but 2-3-4-5 is going to be very very good. You sound awfully sure that Duncan and Ankiel can come close to repeating last year's production. I don't see it happening Even if they do, nobody with a .328 OBP is very very good. I take it you're not a Soriano fan.

I don't see it happening I actually expect nothing special out of Ankiel. I don't think he's going to be bad, but not nearly as good as some of my fellow Cards fans think. Maybe league average. I don't really see any reason to doubt Duncan and his career .884 OPS though. And last year was actually a down year. He had on OPS of .927 until he got the sports hernia. As long as he's healthy he's a very good hitter.

  8. This thread just makes me happy, so I had to get in on it.
  9. Well this thread wouldn't warrant it considering the person who started the thread brought it up. What? I didn't say anything about OMC.
  10. Apparently, Longoria gets plunked in the 1st, Yankee pitcher gets tossed. Next inning Duncan tries to stretch a single into a double, is thrown out out by a mile and goes in spikes up. Gomez comes in from the outfield and swings and Duncan and the benches empty. Thank God baseball is back.
  11. Interesting to see a GM have to answer questions like those. http://www.stltoday.com/discussions/sports/cards-live/LD031008262/all
  12. No Steve Nebraska (Brendan Fraser) from The Scout? He threw a perfect game in the World Series against the Cardinals for the Yankees. His line from that game... 9ip 27 K's 0 BB 0 hits Pitch Count - 81 strikes 0 balls He also hits 2 Homers in the game and the Yankees win 2-0. His fastball sits at around 106 (hard enough to knock the catcher and umpire over) and he can hit 600 foot homeruns. He's that damn good.
  13. I bet you're happy. The Bears can't be his personal bitch anymore. except the part where he went 0-2 against them last year. How did the Bears do last season? You hang your hat on that 2-0 record in a "rivalry game" that none of the players really care about. Considering the goal of every team should be to make it to the superbowl, the Packers 2007 season is as insignficant as the Bears. Whatever you have to tell yourself...
  14. Nor did he have to take a leave for a substance abuse problem the season earlier. Gustavo Chacin, Dontrelle Willis and Esteban Loaiza have also had DUI's and weren't released. It's a situational thing.
  15. Please everyone, try to remember that these are grown men. If a bunch of guys on a team are caught cheating on their wives, does that make the manager an infidelity enabler? No, it means that these men did this on their own time. Men do things, with their own time that managers don't know about, it's common like any other job. Why is this so hard to understand?
  16. Believe what you want man, but that's what was what. Can't speak for the other schools, but we had 4 pitchers that were drafted, but they chose to stay in school. dewwweew my ambien is kickiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Interesting. Your starting rotation +1 more pitcher in HS were drafted but they all decided to go to college? Did you go to HS at USC or Rice?
  17. Very, very hard to believe? It shouldn't be. Low 80's was what we were used to. I played in Division 5A, which is the biggest division in high school in MS. We'd probably have 200 a year tryout for the team, so we had a deep talent pool, and I know it was that way at the other 5A schools across the state, and especially those we played against. Also, I think baseball as a high school sport is bigger down south as opposed to up north (I assume you are from around Illinois?) because of weather issues, etc. Low 80's was about the norm, with a good bit able to get it to the mid 80's and a few able to get it to the 90's. Point remains, if teenagers can throw in the 80's then I have no doubt that grown men could just 75 years ago. We haven't evolved that much. Sorry man, but I also find that very very hard to believe. From my recollection everyone from my state (MO) that could touch 90 in HS was drafted. I was a flame thrower in HS in conference and state play and was only in the 80's. D-1 pitcher's rarely sit at 90. When I touched 92-93 in college I was not drafted but I was invited to Vero Beach with the Dodgers. That brings me to another story as to why I hate Latin American camps, but like I said, that's another story.
  18. He's only 32? That's part of the reason I hate this trade. I don't think Rolen is anywhere close to finished and his subpar '06 was better than every year Glaus has had save his '00 career year. The difference in age between he and Glaus is less than a year and a half, and Glaus' injuries seem to have a more chronic nature than Rolen's. Not to mention our pitching has been terrible and Glaus definitely isn't going to give them any help.
  19. this sucks. Mozeliak is ruining the team. This trade is going to hurt for awhile imo.
  20. I don't think 172 ab's is enough to come to that conclusion. As for the "not enough contact, not enough walks to stay on a big league team" thing, couldn't the same be said for Soriano? Actually, no the same thing cannot be said about Soriano. Ankiel will be 28 next year and put up these numbers in a very friendly hitting environment in the PCL last year. .267 .314 .568 .882 Not bad SLG (but out of line with previous years). Nothing to get excited about either. Maybe he's a 4th OF but he'll get exposed next year, especially if he's off the juice. He was 28 and had 1.5 pro seasons under his belt as a full time hitter and outfielder. I don't think Ankiel is going to be anything special, but his SLG could just be that he is becoming a better hitter. As for the getting exposed, he very well may. And the "juice" comment is funny. It was HGH, not steroids.
  21. DIE. Come on, I had to rib you guys a little bit for all the Cardinal hate

  23. Derrek Lee Carlos Zambrano Lance Berkman Jeter Torri Hunter Curt Schilling
  24. I hope you're wrong too, but I really don't like the way things have been going with Luhnow. Better hope that Rasmus is as advertised and that we have another Pujols hidden in the system. The only hope I'm holding out right now is that DeWitt will open up the wallet to make a "splash" to try to let Mo get a decent reputation.
