  1. It was a fading brand IMO. They needed to expand to become more relevant and they needed cash to expand. AB stepped up with the cash. Goose was "ok" as a niche supplier but attempts beyond that were poor at best. I'm indifferent really.
  2. I heard a rumor that at the time that Hendry signed Soriano, he was basically forced to do so by Zell. Zell was trying to maximize the value of the Cubs pre-sale and told Hendry to sign the most expensive free agent he could find. This is the first that I have ever heard of this but my buddy basically told me that it was common knowledge. Has anyone here heard this before? Sounds like a bunch of crap to me, a Hendry apologist saying that it isn't Hendry's fault that we're stuck with Soriano for so long.
  3. I couldn't be happier about the Silva situation. Who here didn't think Silva would bash everyone on his way out? Classless move by a classless guy. Good riddance. Quade --- you are the man
  4. With today's roster cuts it looks like Darwin Barney will make the team out of ST. Does anyone know how he compares to DeWitt and Baker offensively and defensively? I have him as a couple steps above DeWitt defensively. I don't know how Baker grades out defensively at 2B.
  5. I wouldn't be surprised if Silva came up with a phantom knee injury or something before the start of the season. I doubt anyone will trade for him and I can't see the Cubs eating the $8M.
  6. I never want to see any player get hurt. Having said that, this couldn't happen to a more deserving manager, team and fanbase. I hope he misses the year.
  7. I sincerely hope that Silva gets traded or cut.
  8. Put me on the side firmly against Z. I sincerely hope he has a great first half and gets traded. The guy is an embarrassment to the game. I realize that I'm going to get ripped for this, especially on this board, but I've grown tired of his act. It's one thing to pitch well and be a jerk. It another thing entirely when you pitch like crap and climb all over your teammates for not doing their part. I'll completely agree that the bullpen experiment last year was a terrible decision. Oh and look, another "lazy Ramirez" comment. Haven't heard that for a while.
  9. Truth be told, I forgot about arbitration last year for Theriot. Either way, somewhere in there is the truth. The guy is bitter about something.
  10. What I found more disturbing were the comments made by Wellemeyer when he rejoined the Cubs organization. I don't have a quote but it was something along the lines of "They (Cardinals) are a top notch organization. They work extremely hard from top to bottom. They prepare better than anyone and expect to succeed". I am highly paraphrasing but it was disturbing coming from Welly considering that he came up with the Cubs. He is implying (intended or not) that the Cubs don't prepare as well or work as hard. Nor (it seems) do they expect to succeed.
  11. I would guess that being pushed to 2B and traded to LA in the same season did him in. However, I do think that he is pandering the meatball fans as well. Why would he be upset about being traded from the team that ruined his plate approach, has awful relief pitching and suffers from an organization-wide apathy towards winning? Did I miss anything? You haven't missed anything. I am speculating about why he has suddenly become the anti-cub. If I had to guess, I would think that he played it off as "the good teammate" when he was pushed to 2B for a rookie then got pissed when he was traded away. Not saying that I agree with him or anything, I'm glad he's gone quite frankly.

  13. But somebody pooped where Dusty stands dude. He was clearly watching where he stepped and not counting pitches man. Look!! Over there!!!!! Something shiny!!!
  14. Note to self: never play basketball with a pickup
  15. They were earned despite the Colvin error?
  16. Not really much there, here are the highlights: I don't see any articles on Darvill or Geiger.
  17. No errors through the first 2 innings so far today... Problem solved...... ....we need anther fight
  18. It is just spring training but he has a point, 6 runs, three errors in one inning.
  19. Awesome. You have to be kidding me. Another fight......unbelievable.
  20. Interesting that he has McNutt above Archer - although at that point there is little difference between 68 and 70 on any list.
  21. Is that true raisin? I don't follow prospects as closely as many others here but I would be surprised to hear that given the level of hype that is out there for Harper, Trout etc. If that is true are you saying that the Royals aren't as a good of a position as I would think given 25% of the top 20 are in their system?
  22. With Hosmer, Moustakas, Myers and Montgomery the Royals have four in the top 20
  23. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/top-100-prospects/2011/2611316.html Chris Archer (Rays) #27 Brett Jackson at #38 Trey McNutt #48
  24. Still making excuses and coming up with reasons that point to anyone but himself. He and Milton Bradley should get together.
