  1. Loaded with one out....good teams put up a crooked number there. Cubs hitters step into the box thinking that the pitcher has them right where he wants them.
  2. Agreed. The kicker for me was the statement that they had a pre-draft deal worked out. This now smells a lot like a pick made for cost savings.
  3. I was banned for a drunken profanity filled post a couple weeks ago (apologies) so I didn't get a chance to chime in on the Simpson draft. I was reading posts though and some of them reminded me a lot of the posts when Cashner was picked. "We drafted a reliever in the first round?" etc. While it is fair to judge the pick based on the kids that were still available, I'll reserve judgment and hope the kid does well in Boise. Maybe he pans out maybe not but we have all seen the consensus picks flame out (Pawelek) and the lesser known guys develop into something no one expected. The draft is a crapshoot and based on what Wilken has done in the past I trust his drafts a lot better than my own.
  4. The Crew had some kind of indication. I'm not sure what it was, but they knew something. And you know this....how? [expletive] you [expletive]
  5. He's 27. 27 is approaching 30 if you start from 0. Right Oh and [expletive] you
  6. He's 27. You knew exactly what I meant smartass. 27 is old for a prospect but keep thinking you know everything.
  7. He's 27. 27 is approaching 30 if you start from 0. Then he's also approaching 80 :) [expletive] you people and your holier than thou attitude. I mentioned that the guy is not young in prospect terms and you [expletive] jump all over my post because 27 isn't approaching 30 when every-[expletive] one of you knew what the [expletive] I was talking about. The elitist know-it-all attitude from many of you is complete [expletive]. The next time you [expletive] people come up with an original thought will be the first. [expletive] you.
  8. I posted something similar to this a few weeks ago - no doubt McGehee has been outstanding. I wanted to know where the failure was. Cubs brass chose to leave McGehee off the 40 man and (if I remember correctly) he was picked up in the rule-5 draft. Someone somewhere in the Brewers organization saw something in the guy that the Cubs missed. McGehee is approaching 30 though.
  9. Why is there such a decline in interest here, but not other sites? Where did everyone go?This might catch me some flak, but honesty reigns: NSBB can be a very polarizing message board at times. There are, without a shadow of a doubt, many extremely intelligent, humorous and well-spoken people that post on NSBB. There's also a fair amount of elitism and a subtle bullying streak aimed towards specific members and people who aren't as well-versed in "advanced" baseball. Not saying that NSBB is a bad place - quite the contrary. It's just flawed like people in general and everything else on earth. And of course I can't say for certain that people who used to post here regularly did leave due to the above ... but I can say that if I were to leave, it would be a factor. Witnessing the alternatives first-hand, NSBB is the best Cubs board I've found. I couldn't agree more.
  10. FYP Back at ya
  11. Awesome seats, great pictures. Nice job.
  12. .500 is my guess Lee and Ramirez have shown tiny glimpses of coming out of it but nothing sustained. I don't expect Soriano, Byrd and Theriot to hit .320 all season and Silva will cool off as well. 90 wins would be great but I highly doubt it.
  13. Grabow comes into the game.... ...guaranteed minimum1 run scores
  14. That list without Halladay is BS.
  15. From Hendry: Is that the first time we've seen Cubs management say that Grabow has reverse splits? The Cubs also explained more of their thinking behind Z to the bullpen. Apparently they were a little concerned about his velocity dropping and figured moving to the bullpen would improve his fastball velocity like it does for many. It didn't improve the velocity at all which is why they are pulling the plug so quickly on it. As for who is going to the bullpen when Z returns, I honestly have no idea. Lou had quotes of why they didn't move Dempster or Wells. Hendry says that they felt Silva and Gorzelanny are not fit for bullpen duty. So it could be anybody. I could see someone being traded before the deadline.
  16. It is maddening to watch Caridad come into the game last night and walk the first guy he faces on 4 pitches. Lou must be pulling his hair out with this kid. He was so good at the end of last season and now he can't find the zone. I agree with Lou though, he needs to pitch his way through this so keep throwing him out there. (just not in close games)
  17. Psycho-Bradley for Silva and 9Mil is a pretty good looking trade at this point.
  18. If only there was a place players could play to keep developing. Like Pittsburgh? College
  19. The play where HRamirez ended up on second after the lack of hustle bothers me and I'm sure it bothers Lou. I think that Castro should play tonight assuming no rain out, but I wouldn't be surprised if Lou sat him because of that play to send him a message.
  20. I see this as a knee-jerk reaction to a stumbling offense. Unless Castro is here to play third or they move Fontenot to third I don't see how this helps.
  21. Good point. It really didn't make much sense to sit Soto yesterday unless he was sick or was nursing an injury or something.
