  1. Agreed on the coaching staff and the stats from the game thread yesterday were shocking to me - in a good way. I would like to see some more walks but overall the coaching staff has been better than I could have hoped for.
  2. Surprises: Shark and Dempster for sure but easily the biggest surprise for me is LaHair. I'm also pleasantly surprised in Sveum as I think he's done a good job to date. I'll add Russell too. Disappointments: Marmol and Wood top this list. Barney has been bad too. Thus far, Soto has been a significant disappointment for me as well (it's apparently a crime to criticize Soto and I must have missed the memo). My expectations for Stewart were probably too high and his BABIP would seem to indicate that he'll improve as the season goes on but he has been a disappointment.
  3. So he's trending in the right direction. That's a good start but he's dug such a hole that a good two week period still has him sucking overall. I want to see the guy succeed, I honestly do, but his up/down nature with more down than up is growing old with me. What are you even talking about. Up and down, OK, fine, but he has by no means been "more down than up." And who cares about "sucking overall?" "Hey, it's the end of May and Soto's been pretty good his month." "Yeah, but he sucked in April so it cancels that out." Soto has been good for the first 8 days of May after sucking for the entire month of April. I'm encouraged that he's starting to turn things around but I don't see why he is immune from criticism. My comment about up/down relates to this: 2008 OPS .868 3.1 WAR 2009 OPS .702 .1 WAR 2010 OPS .890 3.1 WAR 2011 OPS .721 1.5 WAR 2012 OPS .563 -.5 WAR (just 22 games, small sample size) So it looks like he's equally down/up so I retract my "more down than up" comment. That being said, the guy is not immune from my criticism. He's due for an up year and I sincerely hope he has it....so he can be traded in July for better prospects.
  4. Also, I can't remember if it was Pat or Len that made the comment but one of them said that the front office now gives each player a packet after each game. It contains the next matchups for the next game, an evaluation of pitch locations and each AB. THAT makes me very happy and I have no proof that something similar didn't occur during the Hendry days but I would tend to think not. Love the new front office.
  5. Agreed and I too am pleased with the upward trend. I am very happy with the coaching staff, the focus on fundamentals, defensive placement etc.
  6. I can't remember if I said they would lost 100 or not but I will say that I'm pleasantly surprised at LaHair, Shark, Campana, Dejesus Dolis, Russell and Dempster. Equally as disappointed in Soto, Barney, Marmol and Wood. This is no playoff team and I've thought all along that .500 would be the ceiling. Soto started slowly and is not immune from criticism.
  7. You're kidding, right? Please tell me you're playing a character or something. The role he's playing is called "realist" and it's typically played by someone who isn't still infatuated with a former ROY. This post is so stupid. I know. I was intentionally pushing buttons and continuing an argument from another thread.

  9. How is he making off the CD? The money goes to JDRF. I must admit though, I am not listening to the game so I don't know what he was pimping.
  10. Anyone else watching via the CBS Game Tracker app? I keep getting an annoying Wendy's Blimp ad in multiple times per inning.
  11. Damn I was really hoping that Soto would get his 6th rbi there. He's a keeper.
  12. (prepares witty response) Yeah I got nothin
  13. Sounds about right, but I can't remember who came back for Gorzelanny. I suppose that says something.
  14. He's signed to a team friendly contract. He's no #1 ace that teams tend to look for at the deadline but he might net a decent prospect. I doubt he gets traded though.

  16. Agreed but there are guys I want gone just because and I don't care what we get back. Johnson, Lendy Castillo, Barney...Wood and Soto aren't there yet but they're getting there. Yeah, that Soto is really trending in the wrong direction. Damn this sarcasm detector, always giving me fits. Soto is OPSing .560 and is getting on base at a robust .250 clip so far this season. It is early, but he needs to to pick it up.

  18. To me, it all depends on what you can get in return. If the prospects coming back and good, trade him. If not, keep him. I would definitely lean toward seeing what he would return though given the number of holes on the team and the current state of the farm system.
  19. He came over along with Garza from the Rays. He pitched in Daytona in 2011 and put up decent numbers for a 23 year old but I can't find anything since then. Did he get released?
  20. First that guy's junk, then the girls face. That ball was on a mission.
