  1. What do you have against Morris?
  2. Agreed but I would hope that the FO would look to add pitching ahead of hitters. Most teams would probably say the same thing, but the lack of good pitching in the upper leaves of this organization is frightening.
  3. Is Bob Brenly part of the "front office"?
  4. Solid A Defensive alignment was nice to see. Daily lineups were a questionable at times (Valbuena, Mather early on). His bullpen sucked so it's hard to find much fault there. Likewise for the rotation.
  5. 32 HR 108 RBI .828 OPS. Really torn about what to do with him this season. At this point. I'd still be willing to eat a much salary as possible, but it would require a package including a top 100 guy and 1-2 quality pieces as opposed to the sack of rubbish I'd have gladly taken for him this time last year. It comes down to whether or not Sori will be around by the time that management expects to compete. If yes, then keep him. Otherwise, paying him a lot of money while the rest of the team is terrible really doesn't make much sense. I don't see a much better team in 2013 so my best guess is that they trade him this offseason, paying a significant portion of his salary and getting a couple good prospects in return. I am guessing though and I could be convinced either way. You are right, he has had an excellent season and until you posted it I hadn't realized he was OPSing over .800.
  6. What bothers me most as a Cub fan isn't the argument over who was worse - Hendry or Williams. What bothers me is that it's even debatable in the first place.
  7. Williams had a fantastic year. I can;t stand the guy but I think it's pretty clear that he didn't do much wrong for 2012.
  8. I started reading your post and about halfway through it I looked at your info to confirm my guess that you do not live in Chicago. I didn't care about the White Sox when I lived on the East Coast. Unfortunately, I moved back to Chicago in time for the 2005 baseball season, and it was hell on Earth. I live in fear that I will have to one day live in a world where idiot White Sox fans are celebrating another World Series title and taking every opportunity to belittle Cubs fans. It's just really annoying and their fans are idiots, so it does bring a healthy amount of hate to the table. ^this 2005 was hell
  9. Is the general feeling that the Cubs will go with a LOT of pitching in the 2013 draft class? Paniagua, Vizcaino, Johnson, Blackburn, Underwood and McNeil seem to be about it as potential TOR guys go in this system.
  10. So once again, Levine clearly has no idea.
  11. By posting links to crap articles like this you only feed the beast. Chicago media is terrible and this is one of many examples of their shortcomings. Bruce Levine...Phil Rogers...Steve Rosenbloom -- all horrible and we're much better off ignoring their garbage. Bruce Miles is the only beat writer worth is salt and the paper he works for insists on putting his content behind their pay wall.
  12. Except for the fact Boise is short-season A ball, Bruce. See all my previous comments about Bruce Levine now knowing a damn thing about Chicago baseball beyond what he reads in the paper.
  13. Actually, it makes plenty sense. The FO recognizes the flaws that guys like Jackson and Vitters have and see this season as basically like Rizzo last year; a chance to hopefully better identify what they need to work on so they have the bets chance to succeed. At the same time they're probably playing the game of trying not to completely crush these guys by throwing them out there every single game when they're likely to just fail. Try to focus on favorable matchups as much as possible and see if you can't both work on things and build their confidence. Just running them out there as much as possible isn't necessarily the best option; at some point it's just meatball-ish, "rub some dirt on it" garbage. I mean, really, do you seriously think this FO is playing things like Hendry or Dusty? Well said and that does make sense.
  14. Why does Valbuena continue to see playing time ahead of Vitters?
  15. Do I look like an amateur softball player? ... <...finishes his beer> Mmmmkay then I like toast
  16. Errors by Rizzo and Vitters so far in the third and another K by Jackson. This is going well.
  17. Did Vitters swing at the first pitch again?
  18. No, they couldn't score with him either.
  19. The roster is neither aging or expensive. It's getting younger on a daily basis. A fair amount of the young talent already is contributing. There are certainly portions of the roster that are aging and expensive. I would say that Soriano (36@19M), Stewart (27@2.2M), DeJesus (32@4.2M), Marmol (29@7M) are candidates to be traded during 2013. I don't disagree that some of the young talent is already there. Are you saying that you think the team will compete earlier than 2015? If so, I hope you're right but I don't see it.
  20. My best guess: 2013 - continued purge of the aging and expensive roster while drafting and acquiring good young talent. No veteran FA's signed. 2014 - some of the young talent is on the verge of contributing. .500 is an achievable goal by the end of the season. 2015 - team is in contention, some FA's are signed and the budget increases.
