  1. Cubs picked up Alex Burnett who was waived from the O's.
  2. According to Wayne Randazzo, Almora left the game after injuring his leg going after a line drive over his head. "Noticeable limp"
  3. Is 27 innings enough to warrant a promotion? Admittedly, I don't know much about the guy.
  4. http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/five-prospects-linked-to-the-astros-for-july-2/ It's a premium article so here are the other two paragraphs on the Cubs: This is the third time Ben Badler has mentioned the Cubs are trying to acquire international pool space. I saw that but I don't follow the idea. How exactly could they acquire more pool space? Is this the trading of picks that was added as part of the new CBA? Does anyone know how that works? I suppose if the trading of picks didn't include the additional money that could come with the picks then it would actually hurt to the team, so the additional money would have to be included. Does that apply to just the international portion of the draft or can it apply to the US amateur portion as well?

  6. "The game was halted by the coaches briefly in the top of the 6th so that Frandy de la Rosa could run around the bases three times, after he neglected to run out an infield pop up."
  7. Nicely done Kyle. Sound like what Raisin said may be right, that this is the next logical step in his recover program.
  8. The store on MLB.com has minor league hats as well, including the Cougars. http://shop.mlb.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=1798497&cp=1452346.1452692
  9. Loux has given up 7 hits and a walk in 2 1/3 thus far. Iowa is trailing by 3. Stewart with a double for the only ICubs hit. Vitters is not in the lineup.
  10. http://muskat.mlblogs.com/2013/05/13/513-extra-bases-2/ That makes it sound like he has had a setback of some sort. Why else would he be seeing the team doctor in Chicago?
  11. I'm not giving up on Malave or Acosta, but those guys came with a steep price tag and it's not looking promising for either right now. I think the team needs to be in on the international guys but I hope there is much more scouting that goes into these guys. Del Valle is another guy and I think everyone knew he was a stretch to begin with.
  12. Does anyone have any information on Vizcaino? I believe he had his surgery before the trading deadline last year which implies some time around 1 year ago. Shouldn't he be pitching by now or at least throwing somewhere? I've checked AZPhil and BA, nothing. Anyone?
  13. Is a midseason promotion out of the question for Johnson?

Lendy Castillo was terrible last year. Somehow he is even worse this year in low A ball. Like others have said above, I see a good FB, sketchy control at times. FB has good velo but can be flat and when he's missing with his offspeed stuff (slider?) he relies on his velo and when he reaches back he looses his control. He seems like a keeper but he is clearly a work in progress. I recall reading that he missed some time in the Indians system recovering from injury so he needs some innings.
  15. Love the Rizzo deal. Need pitching and I do hope they lock up Samardzija. I'm starting that think that Wood might be a part of the long-term future as well. Sullivan, Wittenmeyer, Levine and Rogers are all terrible.
  16. The Paniagua stuff is about half way through. Really nothing new. Clearly still having visa issues. Pitching in the DR. There was a change in personnel at the US Consulate and they are not baseball people. The Cubs are helping him work through it but there is no timetable. BA thought he would be pitching in full season ball by now. His listed birthday is 1990 so he is either 23 or will turn 23 this year according to his documentation. His stuff has continued to improve and has taken jumps after the failed signing by AZ and then again with the Yankees. Hitting 97 with a good slider. MLB has determined that he age is "undetermined" and that combined with his past issues have complicated the issue.
  17. I'm listening to the 5/10 podcast right now. They didn't mention Paniagua in the intro though.
  18. How did I not know that Castillo is 26?
  19. I might be off but his early splits remind me of young Yadier Molina. He came into the league in 2004 and put up a .267/.329/.356 line in 151 PA's. His first full season was .252/.295/.358 but with very good defense. He was a 3 WAR player for three years starting in 2009 and a 7WAR player last year. If Castillo works on his receiving skills, I can see a similar line with a little better offense and worse defense. He's cost controlled through 2017 and has shown a history of taking his walks (other than this year). He clearly needs to improve but I'm not unhappy with where he is right now.
  20. Len and JD showed a stat last night -- the Cardinals are hitting something like .325 w/RISP. Cubs were something like .125
  21. This. And god forbid someone actually frame a [expletive] pitch.
