  1. I think every team in the National League has serious questions. There are a lot of ifs with every team. If two of Prior/Wood/Miller come back healthy and pitch well the Cubs could make the World Series. If the Cardinals new additions have good years they could make the World Series. If Clemens goes back to the Astros they are good enough. There isn't really a clear cut favorite. The Giants are a popular pick because of Bonds but if he gets injured, the Giants are screwed. This is the main reason why a team like the Brewers could play well and surprise a lot of people. Yeah I agree. I'm just having to say that alot, not to shove off the Cubs as if the season is over already.
  2. Right now, probably Rolen by a hair (not as good offensively, but much better fielder and probably a better baserunner). But A-Ram is younger and hasn't had the major injury ROlen has had (although ARam has been on the DL plenty), so if I were building a team, I'd take A-ram. And Aram is at the age and talent level where he could have a really over performing breakout year like Lee did last year. I'd rather have Aram. If he's out a month again this year. That would change though. But you see IMO our offense might actually be a bit better than the Cards if Murton and Cedeno do pan out well.
  3. I think this can all be solved and work for both groups. Booers and non Booers. (sounds funny  ) Do not boo Jones. If the Cubs win, let him struggle and come into his own. When the Cubs loose, everybody should boo real loud after the final out. Boo at the TEAM!! That way you're letting the team know (and in turn Jim Hendry and the Tribune) that they are expected to win.
  4. insightful post. Indeed. There's no insight to be had with this subject, so I did the best I could. Until he's back, he's injured. That's pretty much it. Injured =/= Rehabing.
  5. Eckstein---Pierre = Encarnacion---Jones = Pujols---Lee Cards Edmonds---Barret Cards Rolen---Aram Cards Taguchi---Walker Cubs Molina---Murton Cubs Miles---Cedeno Cubs And I still considered Lee and Aram pretty darn close to Pojuls and Rolen. Cubs have the advantage in Offense this year. If Wood Prior and Miller all come back and contribute. We'll take the Central.
  6. Yeah, we suck! (j/k) Well done.
  7. One thing I saw in Jaque in a few at bats was patience and knowing the strike zone. he got to 3 balls quite a bit of times. It's only that once that happens, he turns into Cpatt and swings at the next 3 desperately trying to get a hit. I predict once he gets a couple of hits, he will settle down. He is desperately trying to please cubs fans, and that's why he's struggling. If anything, he did cause Carpenter to pitch more pitches today. Corey would be down 1-2-3. EDIT: OOPS I compared him to Corey.
  8. Lookin foward to tommorow. We need to beat the cardinals senseless early and get off to a great start this year and never look back!! But we then need to beat the brewers and pirates this year.
  9. That's cool. I noticed Pojouls pat like every Cubs batter who made it to first on their hiney. Even when they were loosing. So that makes me like him a bit better. But not ALL cardinals players are classy. See: Edmonds. .
  10. Hopefully Jones improves. But I don't mind having Cedeno bat 8th for now. Give him some time to build more confidence, get comfortable. Plus would jones beable to get on base so the pitcher could get his at bat over with? That's a very important element too!! I say keep the line-up the way it is now, if we keep winning games. Atleast with Jones at #5 we actually have a pretty good back end of the line-up with Barret, Murton, and Cedeno. If you put Jones back there then you weaken the back end of the line-up.
  11. This was an easy stat for me to track (God I hope I'm not WRONG :D) In the 2 at bats where cedeno came up to bat with 2 outs (and the pitcher up next) he did his job and got on base so next inning wouldn't start with the pitcher. Way to go Ronnie! Keep it up! 8)
  12. Well Dusty does the right thing and takes Maddux out before much damage can be done. Who's coming in you think? Weurtz, Eyre? God I hope not Williams. .
  13. Because it tells us that Dusty has at least some brain activity. the squeeze is little more than a show off move for the manager. it's unnecessarily risky. Not with a great bunter like Pierre hitting. It's not very risky at all. . you do realize that he ended up getting a hit, right? wouldn't you take that over a run scoring sac bunt or a rally killing caught stealing? Did I say I wanted him to do a squeeze? I just argued against you, that it's not much of a risk when you have one of the best bunters at the plate. And he just explained exactly why it is a risk. Where did I say it is not a risk? I said it's not very risky. I didn't say it's not risky. With the Combo we had. Speedy Cedeno at 3rd, and Pierre at bat. That's exactly when I want to see a squeeze. Why are we even argueing about this, he got the hit anyway?
  14. Yeah, he needs a change of scenery after 2 at bats. Get rid of him!!!

  16. Nope. You have to try for a win every single day. We should be past the days of trying to get "atleast one win". . Common, root for 2 wins!! Have some faith!

  18. Hi all just joining you! There were some articles about Maddux wanting to get off to a better start and acknowledging his slow starts, and upping his workout regimin. Looks like he's proving he meant it by pitching this way.
  19. So is the answer to never spend money on pitching? That seems a lot more reasonable than saying trade Prior now because 2 years down the road he'll be making a lot of money and there's a chance he won't be healthy. The answer is to trade declining assets if it's reasonable to believe they won't return to form and invest in pitchers you can be confident will be healthy and consistent like Zambrano for example. But isn't Zambrano a pretty big risk considering the high pitch totals he's racked up the past few years? Prior's managed to avoid the high pitch counts over that time, so he may be a better bet going forward. No, I don't think so. Zambrano has a very strong body. Some guys just do, some don't. Look at Randy Johnson. He has insane pitch counts and never gets hurt. Still no reason to overwork zambrano. But I do agree. Z has just proven his body can hold up. He is one tuff, and good pitcher.
  20. Sure, throw in the ball to his elbow when we're trying to complain about Prior!!
  21. I'm neither I was always in the middle. . But we don't exactly "lose" IF Neifi's defense and or bat helps us win the game. I am willing to be patient with Dusty this year. And judge on a day by day basis. If he keep this up, then I'll turn to your side. The dark side.
  22. I've always said I want Murton batting 5th or 6th because I think he's gonna have alot of power and slugging this year. And that's where you need it. But THAT is if WALKER or HAIRSTON is already batting 2nd. If it's to keep Perez from batting 2nd then I'll accept Murton there. Atleast he would maybe get an extra at-bat batting there. And considering Murton, that's always a good thing. .
  23. I will be watching the game. And if it looks like Neifi's defense helps the game more than his offense hurts it, I'll accept this move. If it doesn't, THEN I'll call for Dusty's head. But I will in NO WAY accept Neifi batting 2nd. There is absolutely NO reason to.
  24. Burnitz went 2 for 4 yesterday and is batting .333 for the season. (better than Jones so far). . :P
  25. I would be upset if he wasn't checked out. I'm more complaining about the fact that Prior seems to have these "minor" troubles the last couple of years and it always leaves us without him early and depending on pitchers like Rusch and Williams. .
