  1. discuss.
  2. You're reading too much into it, IMO. Plus, we need Cabrera in April, early May. Not June. It's too late in June. . Did you here that? "POP" That was my bubble. Sorry to burst your bubble.

  4. This is what I fear as well. We will do well against the easy teams that next few weeks. Then we don't get anyone and fail miserably vs. the good teams coming up next. . I'm not sure if we can take Hendry at his word, but in the pre-game today he basically said there wouldn't be a trade... I expect Hendry to wait until we are about 6 or 7 games back with 4 or more teams ahead of us in both races and then make a move when it's basically too late. After the season, he'll say he did everything he could but the injuries were too much. See ya next year chumps. What I wouldn't do for Jim to be hit with a colletti Lazer beam right now.
  5. No Lee.

I'm not sure if we can take Hendry at his word, but in the pre-game today he basically said there wouldn't be a trade... He does that alot. He doesn't want to give the appearance he's desperate. But if he's indeed truthful. My last thread of hope lays in doing well vs. the weak teams coming up and Wood coming back dominating. That's the only thread I have left.
  7. Hopefully they continue to struggle and JH brings in a big name.

  9. Positive outlook. I'd like to get a positive outlook going. Firstly, let's look at who the Cubs play after the Cardinals. Florida, Brewers, Pirates, Diamondbacks, Padres. By the time we start facing tougher teams, you figure we will have atleast Wood back. So don't give up yet folks, we've got an easy schedule for the next couple of weeks. Now moving on from that. Now that we only have 1 "big bat" in our line-up, possibly for up to 3 months, and not knowing how well Derrick Lee will return to action when he DOES get back. Do you think JH will make a trade? This is a good team. We've got off to a great start. We have an incredible bullpen, and even the bottom part of our line-up is good (IE: No automatic outs). . I think JH SHOULD make a trade, but will he? If you ask me, I'd want to energize the Cubs with the aquisition of Cabrera. I'd give Florida whatever they wanted short of Murton and Cedeno, and possibly Guzman. Hill, Pie, Ryu, Marshall, Guzman, and any coveted position player in our minors is up for grabs. My point is, I just don't want to see JH squander this great team, and just sit on his hands and watch this season go down the tubes. . Obviously I am going to be watching with optomism these next few series hoping our weakend line-up and win some series vs. these weak teams. But I am holding out hope JH will bring a savior to the Cubs team. Let's discuss, and get some opimism in this thread!!
  10. Where would Cabrera be playing now though? I'm all for it just as you are. I just don't see it as a "Jim Hendry" type of move. He's played SS, 3B, LF and RF. I think he can play 1B now. Move him to LF when Lee returns and platoon Murton with Jones (although I'd just bench Jones if he still sucks). I'd just put him in RF after Lee is back and trade Jones. Because Murton is probably going to be a great player, it would be wise to keep him for several years anchoring LF. Then IF Ramirez can't be signed after his contract is up, you have your new 3B. Very logical. Too bad Jim can't be as logical eh? If it gives anybody any hope, on Friday's archives Stone brought up Cabrera's name. Said he'd put him at 1st, and he certainly would like to have the "problem" of where do you play him after Lee is back? I'm sure Hendry is giving Florida a call. And something else that made me feel a little better. He mentioned the schedule. After the Cardinals the Cubs play Florida, Brewers, Pirates, Diamondbacks (I think), and Padres. All sub .500 teams. And when that strectch is over, it's May 8th already and you "probably" have Wood back by then. It doesn't look to bleak atleast we can watch the Next couple of weeks knowing very well that the Cubs have the talent to win those upcoming series. I'd sure like to see Jim invigorate this team by adding a force like Cabrera though. After this devistating blow it would bring hope and happiness back into Cubs fans hearts. .
  11. We are Awesome! Runz plz. Loosing sucks, let's not do it again. Win por favor. sorry you guys don't seem to be around. Abandoning the cubs?
  12. Interesting lineup. Pretty much what I expected, not bad considering the options Dusty has. Not a whole lot of power in that lineup, let's hope they can just get on base and drive each other in. I kind of like that lineup, given the situation. Some nice speed and contact in there. Essentially we trade DLee's bat for Hairy's -- not a good trade but Hairy does add some things to the mix. It's not a total disaster. It's interesting to compare lineups. The Cards obviously have an amazing 3-5. But the rest of their lineup sucks. The Cubs on the other hand have only one big threat (Ramirez), but there are no easy outs. Yeah good point. It's still devistating to not have Lee. (just seing him in the dugout would put a smile on my face). . But I'd take our LF, RF, C, and 2B over the Cards anytime! And our SS and 3B match up with theirs pretty well!
  13. By Len and Bob? UNDER. It has to happen DURING the telecast right? I'll take under. They will mention it to start, and slip it in there during play by play a few times. But deffinatly UNDER, 10.
  14. Really? I mean...I like Murton a lot too, but I think the chances of him being as good as Cabrera are low enough that the trade would definitely be do-able. Stats so far for this season... Cabrera AVG .346 | HR 3 | RBI 11 | OBP .443 | SLG .635 Murton AVG .280 | HR 2 | RBI 9 | OBP .345 | SLG .480 You try to keep your BEST players. I'd rather have Murton AND Cabrera not Cabrera AND Jones. That kind of negates the benifit of adding Cabrera doesn't it? Based on WHO you replace. Just like Replacing Cedeno with Tejada now wouldn't help us much, because Ronny is performing really well!!
  15. No, they aren't the 2004 Cubs. But they are very similar. Week offense, with no patience, relying on pitching to carry them through. True, but on paper that offense looked devastating. Walker, Sosa, Alou, Ramirez, Lee, Patterson (before he fell of the earth).... But that's why they play the games. That's true. That's why they play, so let these team play!! I wouldn't agree this team has no patience, this team has WAY more patience at the plate than 2004 Cubs.
  16. Yes. The point is, we weren't good enough to win even with Lee. Now we are a bad ballclub. Looks like it will be Mabry/Walker/Restovich @ 1B, in whatever combo Dusty likes. Wow. Don't panic? My goodness. I was panicking before Spring Training began, and with good reason----we lost all our pitchers before we even started preparing for the season! Panic doesn't describe the appropriate response to Lee's injury. More like resignment to fate. We weren't good enough to win even WITH Lee? Man oh man the negativity on this board sometimes. Last time I checked we had a 9-5 record with Lee and above the Cardinals. We were winning series and on a good pace to seriously contend. Now without Lee, everyone else needs to step it up. And I think they will. Seriously, why not just give up this year. Aren't we suffering enough after the loss of Lee? To have to come to this board to such negativity. We were a game or two up on the Astros in 2004 with a week to play and blew that without suffering any injuries. Why should we be positive when our MVP candidate is going to miss 2 months? I'm not throwing in the towel, but to have World Series aspirations is ludicris. Then I'll go ahead and have world series aspirations and you can keep comparing us to past teams. We are NOT, the 2004 Cubs. Can't see that, then you're blind.

  18. He'd get ticked at Cedeno every time he had to scoop a throw out of the dirt... :P wouldn't you? Yes, but I wouldn't raise both fists up and sigh in the air after every throw.

  20. That sounds good! Waiter! I'll take one "Jerome Shutout" please!!
