Like, Resigning Baker and his Coaching staff, continuing to rely on wood and prior, not signing atleast 1 impact bat and 1 stellar SP. And I think, if Pierre proves himself, I wouldn't mind keeping him as a lead-off hitter. I'll go out on the limb and declare that now.

Pierre is going to be a better player the 2nd half. I attributed his bad play the first half to letting Lee's going down get to his head. He really is a better player than he has shown. . That said, I think he could go on a tear and get his average up to .340'ish. . I wouldn't mind him resigned so much if we get Carlos Lee in left and Zito as SP.

That is the first time I've heard this as the reasoning for his attrocious season thus far. So, since DLee is back Pierre should start putting up some astronomical numbers. I just don't see it. Not "ASTRONOMICAL" numbers. But very good #'s. Just watch it happen.

Ok think about this for a second. How could we not be in a position to win, when our division basically is terrible this year. How could using the $20+ million from Wood and Maddux and adding a couple key guys like Zito and Carlos Lee not put us in position to win? This year's terrible downward spiral I attribute to 3 things that could be easily fixed next year. 1) Dusty and his goon coaches (replace them) 2) Relying on Wood and Prior (replace them) 3) Derreck Lee's injury (and yes this is the last on the list). I don't mind keeping Prior, but you just cannot rely on him as your "#2". . How could this team (with competent coaches) not be in a position to win? Zambrano Zito Marshall Marmol Guzman/Hill/Prior D. Lee 2B Walker/other Cedeno Ramirez Barret C. Lee Pie/Pierre Jones Aardsma Eyre Howry Dempster And fill in the blanks. How you could fill out the line-up would depend on how you replaced Pierre. I wouldn't want to see Pie batting 1st. But I also wouldn't Mind Pierre back if he improves the 2nd half. Batting average does mean nothing if that is all you are measuring. Sean Casey or Adam Dunn? Casey has a very respectable career AVG. Dunn does not. Who would you rather have? I'll take Dunn. But are you taking Dunn because of his high OBP or because he has a high OBP complemented by High SLG? It is not JUST his OBP. IF Dunn had the same OBP and hit 10 hrs a year I doubt he has a job (assuming a similar avg) (Plus he would likely walk a lot less). Dunn is a very valuable player - but it is based on precisely 2 talents - taking a walk and hitting HR's and that's fine but he is mediocre at best at everything else. He's a horrible fielder and it is starting to look like he's a terrible hitter (aside from the HR's). I'd take him over C. Lee, not by as wide a margin as some here; he's just such a bad fielder and, I know it's old school, but I think a big leaguer still needs to be able to hit at least .260. Again he obviously makes up for a lot that with the walks and the HRs but that does not mean his .220 avg is not an issue. Saying avg means "nothing" is silly. Two players have the same OPS- I'll take the one with the higher avg every day of the week. Yeah but Dunn is so good, he can walk with only 3 balls. I'd take dunn too. I just think it's more likely Carlos would be here next year over dunn. Just seems to "fit".

It has been well noted that Baker "has alot of input" into who Hendry goes after. I've heard about Hendry getting "Baker's style guys". . So just having a new manager could be a big plus, because he can knock Hendry on the head, and say "OBP you DOLT!!". But Hendry would have to hire a manager who knows what OBP is and values it in his lineup. Yes I understand. But besides that, there are a great many other benifits. No more (or less) guys like Neifi, Womack, Bynum, ect. . .
