  1. He just turned 25 today and has the face of a cherub. Make things right and cast Baez into the cold void.
  2. Someone had to be left out and I chose him :-( Castro is awesome and Baez is sorrow molded into human form; the choice wasn't even a choice.
  3. What the [expletive]? Are you rooting for cancer or something, you monster?
  4. The pylon is just a marker; you don't have to hit it at that point to score a touchdown. It's really not comparable to sliding in to 1B.
  5. Seriously? The guy's an outspoken Republican and former frat boy. He's certainly an original thinker but "hippie" could hardly seem less apt. I don't how many times I can flat out say "I didn't pay much attention to the Rays" before it sinks in. I literally remember seeing one profile on him over the years and it was mostly about him riding his bike to the stadium. It's just so weird how excited you were when he got hired then. I don't mean that there's anything wrong with it, but unless I'm remembering wrong, you seemed super amped about it. Like it seemed like you had to know a good amount on him. It was like the manager version of your Cespedes/Abreu/Donaldson fixations. Because I knew of his reputation as a good/progressive/whatever manager (and arguments for him being the best in the game) and what the Rays had done during his time there in the broad sense. I just knew next to nothing about anyone on those teams as a person. For all I know Evan Longoria is some kind of jungle cat in human clothes who can fly. With Maddon all I knew was "old guy with hipster-ish glasses who is smart at baseball and rides a bike."
  6. Odds are at least one of these guys has to fail, so I prefer it to be someone who does it quickly, obviously and spectacularly, in part because of my voodoo-ish relief that it will effectively suck in any residual failure that could possibly taint the other, much better younger players.

  8. I just want Baez in the minors because him beating up in minor league pitching (hopefully, since he sure as [expletive] isn't doing it now) will probably be the last chance to use him as a decent trade chip before he implodes and becomes a miniature black hole that devours whatever team is around him.
  9. Yeah, MLB Network is basically Meatball Central for a good 90% of its broadcast day. Woof.
  10. Lots of the usual herpa-derp in those quotes, but this one stuck out to me as being amazing. That's just...beautiful.
  11. lmao yes Probably, though I really had an image of Maddon as fixed gear bike-riding old hippie, like he was Alex P. Keaton's dad or something. I'm not really sure why, but I wasn't expecting some rip-snortin', old man lunatic to come roaring up in an RV. Yeah, but he's sharp as tack mentally. I love listening to him talk to Len and JD and reading what he has to say about baseball. His explanation of why he would sometimes hit the pitcher 8th was outstanding and changed my opinion. He really knows baseball strategy. He's impressive. He also talked about managing in the minor and trying out things because "nobody was watching" to find out what works and what doesn't. He's the anti-Ryne Sandberg. Sandberg hated managing in the minors. Oh, ultimately I don't care if he eats rocks and marries an aardvark; I know he knows what he's doing baseball-wise. I just had a completely different expectation personality-wise.

  13. Just look at it like they're going to inspire him to end up being an unholy combination of the two, and we will rejoice.
  14. seriously It doesn't bother me; it's just not what I was expecting at all. Is it more or less weird knowing the entire staff dressed like that? I don't even know anymore.
  15. Better than the weird Jheri curl mess he had rocking for a while.

  17. That was fun to watch, as was Maddon being too close to the mic (and Rizzo's epic f-bomb), but man, the Cubs's offense has looked like absolute [expletive] in every ST game I see. I feel like they're doing it on purpose to spite me.
  18. Not that I paid much of any attention to the Rays, but Jesus [expletive] Christ, has he just completely lost it? I thought he was just a slightly weird dork-type.
  19. love it http://replygif.net/i/912.gif
  20. The guyliner and half-shirts suck, because they are rightfully mocked for looking TERRIBLE, but at the same time it gives ammo to the worst kind of fans who are just gonna call him a "[expletive]" and [expletive] over it. Which actually makes Edmond even more terrible that he can't be mocked properly for his atrocious fashion choices.
  21. Unless there's a big name guest, radio remotes always sound like crowd is, like, 10 people, tops. It always seemed like one of the more brutally embarrassing things to do if you're doing a radio show.
  22. If Baez's prime looks anything like Sosa's last few years with the Cubs... I'm pretty sure that would be like the best-case scenario for Baez's career. Good catch. Sosa's WAR his final 5 years with the Cubs: 5.8 9.9 5.2 2.7 2.4 OH, THE HURTING AND THE AGONY. A bit of redemption for rawdog.
  23. Everyone of consequence got the day off to go see off Baez. Think a combination of the Indians trying to get of Willie Mays Hayes and a Viking funeral.
