  1. He's a better option against LHP than Coghlan, so there's that. As for the "hate," other than BigSlick's post, I see people on Twitter bitching every time he's in the lineup. And Duke, he's never hit for power so it's not like we should've been expecting that. No, but this is his second lowest year slugging-wise, so this is weak even for him. He's a tolerable bench bat and a decent defensive option.
  2. I mean, he's ok. But he also hasn't hit for any semblance of power and hasn't drawn many walks. And he is riding a .350 BABIP and a 59.0 UZR/150 in LF to some still pretty meh numbers. In the second half his .220 .250 .340 .590 line is accompanied by a .286 BABIP, so this might just be who he is.
  3. What are you babbling about? Where's the "hate" for a largely unremarkable bench player? He's also had almost twice as many PA against RHP than LHP, and his numbers are almost the same against both, so maybe you're thinking of someone else.

  5. I love exasperation analysis.
  6. Is Soler's defense really THAT bad? There's a .121 difference in OPS between them in the second half. No, but I really don't care what a player has done "in the second half." Time has no meaning for one such as Kyle.

  8. Wait, what's with the "never see their faces" thing? They're not all wearing goalie masks; hockey player faces are typically more visible in an average game than most football players. Hell, one of the things I can't stand about hockey is how much we have to look at their disgusting hockey faces.

  10. Hey, everything was starting to feel a little too positive and hopeful, like maybe the season might be a pleasant surprise.
  11. Hey, it drove me nuts when Cubs fans here would lose their [expletive] over Valverde, too. It's just odd how so many fans want the players to basically be unemotional monks out there.
  12. Kane was #1 in jersey sales last year. yeah, i was gonna say...as an outsider, that's the exact opposite impression i have. toews the better overall player who as thought of as sort of boring (like tim duncan) while kane is the more popular (and flashy) one. I swear this isn't a shot at a hockey, buuuuuuuut....doesn't it kind of speak to hockey's relatively insular popularity compared to the other big sports with how little coverage this has gotten? Who are good players to compare him to in other sports? In terms of baseball, would it be safe to safe he's kinda been the Mike Trout or Bryce Harper of hockey, or is that overstating his talent? I just thought he was considered one of the very best in the game, and if it was someone of that stature in the other sports ESPN alone would be going nuts with hourly updates and the like. he's very good and exciting but he's not best player in the game good (like trout or harper). his teammate just might be, though. either way, you're right about how much more attention this would get if he played another sport. It feels like even if it was a super popular young NASCAR driver there would be more uproar. Hell, maybe even a golfer. [expletive], hockey.
