  1. No wonder him dropping his pants to show off that he didn't hurt himself after the snapping the bat caused everyone to stare.
  2. What so evil about Mabry? Based on his stats, he's been a perfectly serviceable bench player, and he's filled that role on this team. Calling him one of "Dusty's toys" a la Rusch or Neifi is simply incorrect.
  3. I dont think ARam could handle NYC. I think Aramis would mash much, much, MUCH more with the Yankees than he would with the Cubs because he'd be surrounded by big hitters and that would far outshadow his laziness running the bases. I like Aramis, but if he could net us A-Rod I'd do it in a heartbeat.
  4. There's no 'i' in sarcasm. sorry.. but who cares...not everyone can spell. Cedeno is not a terrible hitter...but he does have a lot to learn. And I do agree that Baker needs to chew him out on pitch selection. With the exception of how he played last year, over the winter and early this year, he's been a pretty crappy hitter. I still want to see him play, but I'm trying to be realistic.
  5. We'd have the classiest team around.
  6. It seems very hypocritical to call out a bunch of fans because they supposedly spend more time hating his team than rooting for their own and he turns around and does the same damn thing...or calling them obnoxious when he continually theatens them with bodily harm or cheers and crows over every single loss. Don't badmouth and generalize a whole group of people and then respond with the same behavior that's you're supposedly condemning them for. We have Sox fans here, and it makes Cubs fans look bad and serves to antagonize the Southside fans for no reason other than petty nonsense that nobody else is starting. Just because this is a Cubs site doesn't give everyone license to be an obnoxious jerk to anyone and everything non-Cubs related.
  7. So THEY'RE obnoxious because they wear Sox hats and shirts, cheer their team and their announcers are grating...yet you see nothing wrong with wanting to "punch them in the face" for wearing their team's hats and shirts, cheering them on and having grating announcers? Grow up. Please.
  8. Your "point" is terrible and absurd.
  9. Let's let it sink in. And that last sentence in what I quoted makes zero sense given what we've seen time and time again when someone seemingly dares to even think of mentioning the White Sox on this board. And having Mabry in your sig, under the reasoning you gave us, is ridiculous. Career-wise, Mabry has been a very solid bench player. He only got additional playing time when Lee was injured...other than that, we've seen him about as much as you'd expect to see a pinch hitter or guy subbing for someone hurt/have a day off. Pagan is infinitely more deserving to be up there with the time he's robbed Murton of thus far, thought neither he nor Mabry are even close to Neifi/Rusch-esque levels.
  10. well said. and more then that... if he brings the cubs a ring... i could care less Wait a minute. You two couldn't care less who owns the team, as long as it isn't the Trib? Isn't that what got us the Trib in the first place? Let's be a little more selective about our next owner. Please? Personally I think that as long as its not the tribune..whoever it is will know what it takes to win... and will get the right personell in here to win it all Soul, I think, is saying this was the mentality when the Tribune bought the team...not just anyone is better than whoever owns a team at any given time just because we're tired of them. There are always worse owners. Change isn't automatically for the better. What if they get bought out by someone who thinks they can turn the same profit (fans come out no matter what) with half the payroll? And I'm not saying sticking with the Tribune is the right idea...just trying to get the point across that not anyone who would buy this team would do a better job.
  11. That's not nearly enough to make this team contend.
  12. Grounding out. If the Cubs got two big bats for the OF, say, C-Lee and Abreu, I could live with Pierre for a another 2-3 years. Anything less, no thanks.
  13. Why is Mabry in your "Dusty's Toys" sig?
  14. How much more less could you care?
  15. No, you couldn't care less.
  16. I think they should trade him to the Cubs for Murton and Walker, just to be nice.
  17. I don't think it's a myth...some hitters are better at drawing off of other hitters in the lineup, and Aramis, in my opinion, has shown that he is one of those hitters. He needs to be behind or in between some mashers to draw off to be consistently dominating like we've seen in the past. That's just the kind of player he is...unless the Cubs are going to seriously go out there and add a couple big bats to the lineup, this may not be the place for him...and I say that with no malice based on his comments or hustle or blah-blah-blah. That's just my opinion based on how he's hitting (or not) with who is around him and what kind of team he's on. Maybe the Cubs just aren't a good fit if they're not going to get the bats.
  18. So stupidly, my dad and I go to all 3 games here in DC, just like we did last year. I know this team has been especially awful this year...Lord knows I've seen enough debacles on TV...but seeing them play this bad live...I don't know, it's spirit-crushing, man. Yesterday and today, my dad and I did something we've never done in the 20 years we've been going to Cubs games together...we left early. Awful.
  19. Most of Dusty's comments are horrible analogies that sound laughable in or out of context.
  20. Sorry about the long post...I tend to ramble late at night...I guess the big thing was just the bizarre dynamic of the lecture. Everyone else is hanging to the other end of the dugout but Z is right there, watching everything, and Walker seems to be a part of it, too. I want to see Cedeno succeed, but I think he has dogged a few plays trying to not get hit, so him getting chewed out for that (theoretically) makes sense...just like it's been said, I wish Dusty was more consistent with that behavior. It was strange seeing him that animated and upset.
  21. Who is he "calling out?"
  22. So his two game hot streak makes up for his poor play so much that he can say whatever he wants? Where did I say anything even remotely close to that? I said it's a guy trying to sound honest and funny...who cares if he said he wishes there were more guys on his team smashing the ball? Who WOULDN'T want that? He didn't single anyone out, so whose feelings are going to be hurt? The way we talk about this team, they're never going to win anything with the amount of crying and sulking in the corners they must be doing. I guess he just wasn't very good at being funny. That comment could have been made in a bad way. I'm not saying thats what it was. Other than one other quote from a couple weeks ago I have no reason to believe it was made in that tone. I will however keep track, and that right there is two times. After 4 or 5 or 6 do you start to think it happens too much to be that he is just being taken out of context. It might not get to that, I hope it doesn't. At this point I'm not taking either side, both should be held in consideration because its too early to say for sure that its one way or the other. Oh and the "remotely close to part" to was in reference to the fact that you only used the past two games ehre he hit 4 homers in support of his strong play. He's done poorly the rest of the season. I'm sure thats not how you meant it, my bad. I wasn't using it to support anything. I was just syaing I was there and I was impressed with the home runs.
  23. I was at the game at RFK and at one point Cedeno tried to throw to first while diving out of the way of a sliding runner. To be honest, I'm completely blanking as to the outcome of the play, but a few things stood out...for one, both my dad and I commented how Cedeno has done similar things a few times this year, namely going out of his way to avoid a runner coming into 2nd. Now I know that the guy shouldn't take a bad hit, but I feel there's definitely been some plays where Ronnie seems more concerned with not getting hit than making the play. Well, right after my dad and I bring this up, the side is finished and everyone heads to the dugout, and Ronnie ends up cornered by Baker right as he comes down the stairs, and Baker looked like he was yelling his head off, throwing his arms and even his body around while Z watched, standing at the railing but kinda bracing his arm against the top of the dugout, seemingly keeping everyone away. The rest of the players were keeping their distance except for Walker(!), who was in the middle of it, talking to Cedeno, too. I know there were some other board members going to the games this weekend...did anyone else happen to see this? It was very bizarre to see Dusty showing that kind of emotion. And I really don't know what to make about Cedeno and close plays where he might collide with or be run into by the runner...it's definitely seemed to me that he's pulled a Dorn here or there and tried to avoid getting hit at all when he needed to make sure the bag was covered or he had the tag and/or throw set. I could easily be wrong, and wouldn't be surprised if I was.
  25. The trade's not the end of the world, but I think Williamson could have been more useful trade-wise if he had been packaged with some of the other players the Cubs might be looking to deal.
