  1. Maybe rehab is actually so awesome, nobody wants to leave it.
  2. So Cobb's number should be retired, too? I think Cobb only revolutionized the game and broke records. Which is really all Ruth did, too.
  3. I think a huge part of Hill making or breaking it relies on his mentality and confidence on the mound, and I'm worried that if he gets hit hard again soon that might be dashed. Here's hoping that's not the case.

  5. Agreed. Breaking records isn't enough to have your number retired. You need to be more than just a player...and yeah, it's tough to clarify, but like the saying goes, "I know it when I see it." Right. Robinson arguably is not a hall of famer if he is not the first black player, but his actions clearly did a lot for the game. I would like to see Clemente and Ruth also retired. For all of MLB? Why? Both were great players, but what did they do equivalent to what Robinson did?

  7. The Cubs seem to have a "thing" about not seeking out Asian players (who else has there been besides Ryu and Choi in recent seasons?), so I put the odds of them going after him somewhere between slim and none.
  8. Did you expect any different from one of the worst GMs in baseball? While his plan clearly failed in the "have him ready by May/June" area, this is one of the worst examples to use of Hendry's poor GMing. Miller was had for dirt cheap (MLB-wise) and had a huge upside if he could come back. It was an obvious gamble going in, but it's basically no-lose. Had he not also shelled out for guys like Rusch or Neifi, nobody would be slamming Hendry for the Miller signing. It was a logical gamble with next to no downside. There's still a chance it might pay off to something nor next to nothing.
  9. As memory serves me, Miller made it clear when he signed with this team that he had no intention of being a reliever. Well, that just makes the choice easier. He puts up decent starting numbers on SOME level consistently or he's gone.
  10. If he's showing he can do something useful, either starting or relief, hell, sign him back for another year on the cheap. Can't be too careful with this club. But again, only if it's for a deep discount...Neifi money or lower, obviously. Not everyone can command the high price of the Neifury.
  11. Joe is new, but has also done some nice things with the Marlins, that Jim might see him as less of a long shot now. Or at least that's what I'm telling myself. This thread is a tease. I'll tell myself that too and yes, it is a tease. Sadly, not just for Joe but the thought Baker won't be in the Cub dugout in 2007. I honestly don't clearly understand the love for Joe, can someone help me out with this? I know Baker isn't liked, I'm one of those people, however I respect this boards views and usually agree. Just curious on what exactly Joe would bring to this team. He's got a haircut you can set your watch to.
  12. The problem, in my opinion, is that both Pagan and Murton are showing themselves to be very good 4th outfielders...I really don't think either are the annswer for the Cubs when it comes to a starting LFer at this point.
  13. Oh Lord, don't tease me like this...please, PLEASE be true. I'll suffer the rest of the year with Dusty running the team if it means Girardi can be there opening day in 2007. Light a candle!
  14. He's too patient? His style at the plate, for a player that young, almost completely flies in the face of what Dusty and co. spew forth.
  15. Yes, but the sample size was also too small for him to be declared a bust, as many were doing after a few poor outings last year and this year. When he's had as many good outings as he's had jaw-droppingly bad ones, then it'll be safe to say he's "turned the corner." it's getting close. Hopefully. I just hope we don't run out of wood in the meantime...

  17. I readily and freely admit that I did. Granted, this is only 2 games, and one of them was against the stankin' Pirates, but he has looked fantastic in both of those starts. Like I said when he was called up this time, I hope he makes me eat a buffet's-worth of crow. It's only good for the Cubs if they have a slew of young pitching/trading options going into next year. The stankin' Pirates are 4th in the NL against lefties in OPS and runs scored. Really? Holy crap...literally.

  19. QFFT And people gripe that the organization is quick to smear...
  20. Sports "fans" spewing vile and hateful insults at a player? SHOCKING.... Not trying to excuse it, but is this really all that surprising? I guarentee you that every team of every sport in the world has people who call themselves fans who have no problem being the most ignorant, racist douchebags possible. This sadly isn't an exceptional thing at all.
  21. Aramis has this club by the throat at this point. They need him like crack.
  22. ...the Cubs will offend tremendously.
  23. WHY ARE MABRY AND PAGAN STARTING AGAIN INSTEAD OF MURTON AND/OR NEVIN?!?! I'm sorry for the shouting, but my head really feels like it's going to pop from all the frustration. Seriously, what the 'eff?!?
