  1. I'd argue that 'team chemistry' is a cliche, and a cliche that really doesn't lead to anything. Winning creates chemistry, not vice versa. Who is arguing "team chemistry" here?
  2. Again, I can't provide any sort of numerical backing just because it'd take a ton of time - but there's no way they'd only save "a run every three or four games". On top of runs prevented, what about helping keep a pitchers pitch count low due to them turning the DP, making exceptional plays, etc? I think you can't provide numerical backing, because numerical backing for that position doesn't exist. Just like you can't provide numerical evidence of speed's influence on a pitchers missed location, range in CF saving doubles and triples, etc. Doesn't mean it's not important, just not quantifiable. Or it's negligible.
  3. that's a lot different than saying defense wins championships, don't you think? the reason you can't crunch and collect numbers to prove your point is because those numbers don't exist. True, I guess you got me caught up there. Maybe I should say I believe defense is important to winning a championship? It's just my opinion. :) :) Nobody was saying it's not important. What people are saying is that "defense" was nowhere near being a problem for the Cubs and why they're doing so bad. Izturis slightly improves and area where the Cubs weren't hurting and does absolutely nothing to help the Cubs where they're REALLY hurting: offense. Numbers-wise, he's a more expensive Neifi. If Hendry had shored up the corner OF positions, hey, great, this is fine. But since he hasn't, and he's now pulled even more money away from fixing those problems, this isn't a terribly smart move. And the "defense wins championships" is applicable in the other major sports, not baseball. Sure, it's important, but with hockey, football and basketball, the defense can take possesion and score on a moment's notice. Izturis can't dive and catch ball behind head and then touch home to score a run. He's a serious offensive liability on a team riddled with them.
  4. Agreed. That said, however, without any real speed, he NEEDS to be at least Maddux-esque somewhat consistently to have any hopes of a career in the bigs.
  5. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Regardless of how the rest of his career pans out, this first ML start is worthy of the big screen. And I'd like to see him get one or two more starts...maybe he shows himself to be relatively steady, goes back to the minors and does alright and if the Cubs wise up a bit they can sell high for a guy like him, or he can be the cherry on a miracle package deal that nets the Cubs a player they desperately need. Hey, if the kid gets his movie moment, let me have mine, OK?
  6. I think it's still a stretch to say Corey is a "favorite" at this point. Like it was just pointed out, given how much he would have cost he's the lesser of 3 evils when compared to Jones or Pierre.
  7. I believe this is statistically provable and entirely accurate. *Drunkenly waves a sheet of paper* I HAVE NAMES!!!
  8. I have proof that all the blue-lovers are also responsible for the resurgance of the wave at Wrigley.
  9. Considering the situation, what's the benefit of rehab starts? If they're thinking of inserting him back into the lineup, and they clearly rushed him before, why not give him a rehab start or two in the minors to see if he's really getting any better? But what's the difference? Can't you tell if he's really getting any better whether he's playing with the big club or at Daytona? I'd figure the minors would be less stressful, both physically and mentally, and might allow him to help work his wrist back to full strength than just diving into the majors right away. Why would the team possibly need him ASAP at this point?

  11. They're not going to bother with any rehab starts? Idiots.
  12. Jones isn't going anywhere, so scratch that idea. I'd love to see Lee and Soriano hitting for the team, but I think it would work best, given who is running this team, with Lee in LF and Soriano playing 2nd again. wow, if you thought walker was a poor defensive 2b . . . The way I see it, that's the only way keeping Izturis makes any sense. His defense combined with Aramis and D-Lee make up for Soriano's defensive shortcomings, and Soriano's bat makes up for Cesar's.

  14. everything about this is wrong Only to you, maybe. And the sane.
  15. Too true. He's slid down to becoming another Neifi...you can count him for solid to great defense, but you're lucky if he does anything with the bat.
  16. "Yo' a handsome man, Mr. Garrison..."
  17. Sorry but some people like the alternatives. I think the pinstripes look ugly IMO. Plus Zambrano likes the dark blue shirts and he is awesome. Trust me Zambrano knows what he's talking about. Bow to the blue! As I've said before, the league has actually secretly banned Z from using the pinstripes, because their awesomeness combined with his awesomeness is simply too unfair for any opposing team.
  18. How much do you want to bet he was saying he could go in and pitch an inning or two?
  19. Lookin' good, Hill! CUBS WIN!!! Good night, fellow insomniacs!
  20. Dusty will probably say Murton tired himself out with all the excitement and give him the day off tomorrow, y'know, as a "reward."
