  1. I laughed at that also this morning! Gimme a break! They'll do it next year when they lower salary to 80 mil. And they will, too. I think a lot of this extra emphasis on youth playing time is setting us up for a team of cheap rookies next year with no big add-ons. I personally believe a payroll cut is inevitable and would be shocked if it was above $85 million next year.
  2. If I had to pick between Lee and Soriano, I'll happily go with Alfonso. Succeeding the way he has in the cavern that is RFK is pretty damn impressive. He'd tear it up at Wrigley!
  3. Even Neifi can and has "turned it on" offensively for brief stretches. Cedeno just hasn't really done anything as a whole that shows he'd be more useful than as a backup player at the very best. Maybe if this team was better you could stomach it and bury him at the bottom of the lineup, but as it stands in reality, he's showing little to nothing that indicates he can be starting for this team next year.
  4. Really, he is not impressive at all. Sure, he's had fits and spurts of quality over the last 2 years, but overall in his young career he's kind of, well, not good. Yeah, yeah, I know he's young...but really, what is he consistently showing that makes anyone think he should be a starter on this team in any capacity next year? His flashy defensive plays every so often? Great, yet another Neifi/Izturis in training.... Cedeno is not a major league ball player, not even close. If he's starting next year, I just may plotz.
  5. As the Tigers are about to find out. Watch him pull a Maddux on us not grounf out to the 2B every at bat Maddux has always been dynamite after the ASB, even with the Cubs.
  6. I think it's the standard thing to do after a player is traded to hear a few quotes from them about their previous team. There needs to be a cut off point. Are they going to get a comment from the next celebrity bat kid after he gets grounded and can't make the game? A cut off point? He JUST got traded. Give it a couple days. NO MERCY. NO EXCUSES. GOOD DAY, SIR.

  8. That a player of Neifi's level is still getting attention from the Chicago sports press after he's gone is pathetic.
  9. Please tell me thats sarcasm You really have to ask?
  10. I remember Dawson and Dunston being well received by the fans, as well. not exactly accurate. Dunston was pretty much hated by Cub fans until 1989 when he stopped sucking so bad. Is that the year that the Shawon-o-meter made its debut? I was only 7 then, so I don't remember. Hey, I'd stop booing a guy if his cannon arm could knock me out cold at any given moment.
  11. That's an excellent point...besides Sandberg, I think it's safe to say that the most beloved Cubs players, at least out of those still with us, are Ernie Banks and Billy Williams. Obviously, there are racist "fans" out there, but that article felt a little too close to being a blanket condemnation of the city and the fanbase.
  12. OK, my insane ideas are getting insane-ier. Re-sign Aramis when he opts out and trade him and whoever else is needed to get A-Rod from the Yanks. Move A-Rod to SS. Throw a pile of money at Soriano and have him at 2nd. Move Barrett to 3rd. Sign Craig Wilson and platoon him with JJ in RF. At this point, I'd have no problem making Murton LF all the time. Offer Pierre arbitration and bring up Pie. Seek out a catcher who isn't as awful as Barrett is defensively and can hit at at least a little better then Blanco. Bring up Fox. MY VIDEO GAME VERSION OF THE CUBS IS TEH AWESOME!!1!!!11!!!1!!!1
  13. I'll give him credit for that one...I remember hearing that he said that and was impressed with its badass-ness.
  14. Nicely done, stitch!
  15. I like how his stance at the plate made it look like he had a huge, steaming pile in his pants. And man, that awkward, throw-the-bat-at-the-ball swing at anything low and away...AWESOME.
  16. I agree, moving him to LF is madness. Move him to 3rd.
  17. Alright, I'll give one good one...I think in the same series at St. Louis last year where he hit the GS, Neifi snagged the 3rd out of the 9th for the win when Pujols fired a screming bullet his way. That was pretty cool and made me love him for a brief instant. Oh, and I'll miss the way his bulbous ass mysteriously stayed aloft on top of those bizarre chicken legs. Maybe that bulge he was constantly fondling balanced the whole mess out.
  18. Too bad his real nickname is censored here.
  19. Anything is possible now! I feel just like a kid in some kind of a store!
  20. Man, this is just the first step in Hendry fullfilling my insane roster plans. Hendry magically uses Aramis in a trade for A-Rod (no, I'm not quite that crazy to think that it would be a straight-up deal involving just those 2 players). A-Rod can play SS after Izturis is traded for a moldy car floor mat. Barrett moves to 3rd. Catching is covered by Robinson/Fox and Blanco. Like I said...insane. But it makes me smile.
  21. I'm in love with the idea of platooning Murton with Jacque and then Murt just takes over RF fulltime as soon as Jacque is gone. By then, hopefully, Pie's in CF and a big masher has been picked up for the long run in LF.
  22. When he scampered around the field on all fours like some sort of deranged beast after the Cubs somehow won a game earlier this season.
  23. I have zero sympathy. When all is said and done, they have a fantastic team they can bury Neifi in.
