  1. Oh, Cedeno. Dear, sweet Cedeno. How many giftwrapped runs will your innocent, childlike generosity donate to the Giants today?
  2. And this proves....what, exactly? Nevin doesn't serve much, if any purpose for this team's future. He was a late addition stopgap to help staunch the offesnive blood loss that Lee's injury led to. He's an appealing option for teams shooting for the playoffs that need some pop off the bench. Mabry is not. How do you propose that they sell Mabry as easily?
  3. I think he'd have to be downright Cy Young-esque in this last month for him to demand the kind of money you're implying, from any team.
  4. And 3 of them can still get the chance. Hell, more if they work out of the bullpen. And it's not like they just showed up and barely got a chance to play. If Miller's gets shelled after a couple starts, boom, pull him and put a rookie back in. Now we know for sure.
  5. The problem is, who's truly more deserving? I'm all for playing the kids at this point, but I don't want kids that clearly not ready up here doing nothing but hurting their confidence. As long as Miller doesn't push out Z, Hill or Marshall I'm ok. Marmol needs to be in the minors to work on his control and Mateo and Guzman could use the work down there to. The problem with that is the minor league season is over in 4 games. Even if the minor league season wasn't coming to a finish, I'm not sure why these guys couldn't work in the big leagues. D'oh, I completely forgot the minors was ending, it's late and I'm tired. I do think they could work in the majors but for Marmol especially, he's looked borderline terrible with his control. Moving to the minors would take a little pressure off of him in that the hitters he faces would not be as good, thus he could work on his control. Even with the minors ending, I still think Miller should get a start or two and see if he's got anything. If he does have nothing, put the kids back in there. Exactly.
  6. So just don't let Marshall pitch? Marshall has plenty left to prove. We know Marshall is back with the team in some capacity next year. Unless he magically developed a new pitch or some extra speed to his fastball, what does he have that we'll see in the last month that we didn't see the last 4? He's got plenty of time in the future with the team and we basically know what he can do. Miller's potentially gone after this year, so this is the only chance to see if he has anything left. Why not do that? And I'm not saying Marshall has to be the one who loses a spot to Miller. It could easily be Mateo or Marmol. Both are here for a while, they're not going to be wanting for playing time at some level with the Cubs. This is the only go for Miller. Maybe there's something there. Maybe not. It's not like we're talking delaying Wood's surgery or something by setting these guys back a month. A missed month in the doldrums of the year isn't going to cripple them if they actually have the stuff to make it in their futures.
  7. Correction...the ground runs into Z. And it is destroyed.
  8. If Marmol will even be there. If he is, great, let him pitch. I just don't see the need to pencil in Marshall over Miller for this last month. Marshall has nothing left to prove this year...Miller does.
  9. Like who? I think the only 2 rookies that basically NEED to be in the rotation right now are Guzman and Hill, especially the latter. Combine them with Z and you've still got 2 spots open. Marshall was up for pretty much the whole year...does he really desperately need this last month? What's he got left to prove? Marmol's injured right now and Mateo I think would be better off working out of the bullpen (I still think he could make a great closer down the line). Yes, there are always other people to try out, but Miller's here for 1 more month...why not see what he can do? What is there to lose? More fun with Rusch? Because you know Dusty's using him before they bring up any more rookies.
  10. I wanna be a part of history!
  11. not a true blue then. We should hope that they win 29 in a row make the wild card and Dusty (as much as I dislike him) proves all of us wrong. Weak.
  12. I like it. Can you imagine all of the "Aramis doesn't hustle" crowd dealing with Andruw? Talk about exploding heads... I know. The thing is that Jones is so fluid that it looks like he isn't hustling when he is, IMO. Did you see his catch last night? I did indeed. I would be incredibly happy with Jones in CF at Wrigley. It was an idea that I brought up a month or so ago with my dad and he flipped. His first argument was, exactly, "that guy has no hustle at all! He doesn't even try unless he hits one of the park!" Some people...
  13. '98 was definitely the year (I was 19 at the time) that pushed me over from being your average lifelong Cubs fan mainly just because of where I was born and was raised by Cubs fans to the sadly rabid and over-emotional fanboy wreck I am today.
  14. Even if Aramis stays I can't believe it wouldn't at least be worth a look at what it might take to get A-Rod. Like you said, unless he explodes and becomes a hero during the playoffs, he's probably gonna be the cheapest and most available he'll ever be during his prime career years. Hell, he could finally play SS again, where he friggin' belongs.
  15. I wouldn't blow it up because I have little to no faith that this organization would have any idea what to do with the (ideally) talented young players they'd pull in. Short of a massive management and coaching overhaul, I see it paying off even less than the mess we have now.
  16. The hell he is. Pardon my bluntness, but the guy is just going through a hot streak right now. If he ends up amounting to more than a backup infielder for ANY team, I'll eat my hat and the hat of the person next to me. Theriot isn't the answer for any of the IF spots any more than Izturis, Cedeno or Bynum are.
  17. I like it. Can you imagine all of the "Aramis doesn't hustle" crowd dealing with Andruw? Talk about exploding heads...
  18. Agreed. It's cool giving the rookies a shot, but outside of Hill I don't think any of them are ready to be here a full year and be truly competitive. Let them work it out in the minors/bullpen and fill in when needed. If Miller is showing he can be competitive, he definitely needs to be given a shot. He'd be a cheap, decent veteran starter if he has anything left.
  19. Then they just pluck Ponson off of the scrap heap and we have a defensive line that will make even the hardiest man tremble. Oh, damn, I forgot, this is still baseball season....
  20. Not shockingly, Howry is showing wear and tear being put out there as much as he has. It's sickening that Novoa has had that much relief time.
  21. There's no point in letting Prior walk right now since they have him on the cheap through 2007.
  22. Why the hell would anyone choose Cedeno to survive such a scenario?
  23. hes payed well enough to go out there and perform regaurdless of when he pitched last That's an asinine mentality when it comes to relief pitchers. So if we end up paying Zambrano a huge salary, I should expect him to pitch every 4th or even 3rd game instead of every 5th, just because of what he's paid?
  24. I couldn't agree more with everything in this post.
