Oh, Carlos, stop teasing the Cardinals...yes, I know that's as close as you'll let them get to the ball, but still, it's just mean. http://www.photofile.com/Photos/Photos_Of_The_Day/06_03_15/06CarlosZambranoStudio.jpg
If only the great "Wood/Prior/Zambrano" combo hadn't been reduced to just Z, the Cubs would no doubt be contending and Maddux would be able to finish his career in Chicago. *Sighs* Thanks, Mad Dog. It's been an honor watching you pitch for the Cubs.
It was a joke. The poster who I was talking about has stated several times how White Sox fans being "obnoxious" makes him want to "punch them in the face." I was attempting to cleverly point out how hypocritical that is when the fans in question he described as really only cheering and yelling for their team, and typing in all caps is the computer equivalent of screaming your head off. Unclench.
I've been dreading the lower payroll theory since last year, too. It makes too much sense given how much money this team has proven it makes when it sucks...why should the owners spend approx. $100 million in payroll each year if they make a ginormous profit winning season or not? The Cubs being awful is nothing new...it's the norm for the overwhelming bulk of the Tribune's owning of the team. It would take several season of baseball as bad as it is now before you'd start seeing significant dropoff in ratings and ticket sales, but that's not going to happen. I wouldn't be surprised to see them try and settle back into a comfortable zone right below or at .500 for a payroll of $50-$75 million...what's the motivating factor to do otherwise? They come within 5 outs of a WS, the Red Sox finally win, the White Sox finally win...what could possibly motivate the owners and management to go into a serious tear to try and win if what's already happened didn't?
There's no excuse for Pagan to be playing today. Murton is hitting very well right now and Nevin is, too, and he's hopefully being shopped. With Lee out, having Pagan AND Mabry in there is insanity.
You can hear it on SportsCenter. It is a very annoying call. So then why do you use it? It's great to poke fun at them w/ it when they lose. Which is the definition of obnoxious, which is why you hate the team and their fans. This is getting confusing. He'd reply, but he can't stop punching himself in the face.
Interesting indeed! Well as other poster said we needed give Hill the lead so he can relax. Well the cubs did and the next inning Hill gave it back. So much for that theory... What a mornic post. But one of many unfortunately. I so wish NSBB was around when Maddux or Grace were breaking in the bigs. Not everyone is Lirano. Maddux and Grace at least showed signs of why you would be wise to keep them around. Outside of the curve, which only works sometimes, Hill has shown absolutely diddly in the bigs that indicates he has a chance at a career as a decent MLB starter. I agree he should be up here for the rest of the year to see if he can do anything if Hendry isn't going to move him now, but indicating he has anything even close to the potential or flashes Maddux and Grace showed is absurd.
QFFT. If he can just get his breaking ball to break more consistently and get a little more power going, he's pretty much the real Prior again. It was nice seeing him strike out guys with a high fastball when he needed to.
Wind blowing out to CF? Ouch. Against the Cardinals? Double-ouch. Rich has his work cut out for him. Fortunately, I'm banking that Aramis and Nevin continue their hot power streaks, and each goes yard at least once. Now if the Cubs could only remember what RBI's are...
I was listening to the Mets' radio guys on XM, and they sounded baffled when they were talking about Rusch warming up in the pen...they couldn't figure out who he could possibly pitch against, since he basically sucked against everyone on the Mets he had a pitching history with. That's our Rusch!
You only say this because it's always been true. Always being a very short time in this case, however. Like I said, I hope beyond hope that I'm wrong. But I don't think that I am.
This is when he should be used...I hate to say it, but you need his defense in close games. I could see if you had the lead, but I'm not sure his defense is more important than Walker's offense right now. The Cubs have 3 hits. Walker just got the last out...you want to try and win the game now at this point, not later.
