  1. Nothing that made him miss significant amounts of time.
  2. Excellent point. The Reds might be an especially good target since you could package Izturis with a reliever or two for probably a pretty decent return.
  3. and how far did that 'strength' take the cubs last year? I never understood the concept of turning a strength into a weakness. That strength didnt take the Cubs too far last year, because eveything else about the Cubs was a complete joke. Trading Scott Eyre isn't going to make the bullpen a weakness. Who takes his place then? Ideally Wuertz or Ohman (if used against the right batters). We've got all kinds of young pitchers that could use some bullpen time to get more MLB experience...Marmol, Mateo, Marshall, Ryu...
  4. That's a good place to start for him. i think so too. there's not to much damage he can do at 1b (unlike 3b or hitting coach). i'm glad he wants to get back in baseball. between ryno & trammell, the cubs would have a wealth of knowledge for their middle infielders to draw on. Jeez, can you imagine Ryno and Trammell on the same team....*drool* It makes my ridiculous dream of having ARod at SS and Soriano at 2nd even more awesome. If only, if only...
  5. Unless the Yankees win it all next year, Torre's not going to leave NYC a hero. I can't see one of "his boys" taking over in that kind of situation.
  6. Nice :o This makes me think that the cubs are not going to go full throttle for Matsuzaka. I think they see Kuroda as the better bet for the money. Typical cubs, being able to acquire the player that will get them over the top, but instead getting the guy that is good but not good enough. At least given my understanding of the FA pitching market which is.... Matsuzaka Zito Schmidt Kuroda We need one of the top 3 to compliment Z, but Hendry will probably go after 4. Given what's been floating around, I think they target 3 and 4 if not 1. I don't think Zito is even in the picture.
  7. I like Prior and think he can come back and be a good to great pitcher again...but if he can net us ARod and allow us to keep Zambrano and Aramis, I do it in a heartbeat. I wouldn't care if he went on to win the Cy Young with the Yankees...that's too good a deal to pass up and the Cubs have the money to replace him.
  8. Why? After being swept they needed a good chuckle.
  9. Can someone please point out any kind of legitimate information about Wood, Prior or Miller in the linked article? Because all I can see is speculation.
  10. Jesus. Talk about crushing all hope before it even had a chance to build. Where did De Luca get this info from? He doesn't even imply that he got it from any kind of source outside of just totally guessing on his part. OK, re-reading that article, I have determined it's a officially a load of crap.
  11. Didn't Aram and Pierre wear those this year when it was cold in April? Yeah, Aramis has worn them before. I thought ninja-Aramis looked unspeakably awesome, but his ninja-batting was unspeakably awful.
  12. Next time use the paper, Kenny, not your hand. YOU ARE NOT AN ANIMAL.
  13. I'm all for Matsuzaka, but $90 million is a pretty steep price for a pitcher who has yet to prove himself in the major leagues. When you've dig yourself this deep you gotta take a few gambles. With Hill and Zambrano and the possibility of an at least semi-healthy Prior, a successful Matsuzaka suddenly makes the Cubs insanely dominant pitching-wise.
  14. I'm starting to drift towards trading Z for ARod...the argument that ARod would theoretical help win you more games due to playing time is something I can't get around, and Z's growing list of "minor" health issues don't bode well down the line. If I made that deal I'd ask the Yankees to pick up part of Arod's tab and toss in Pavano for free. With ARod hitting for you you go balls-out going after FA pitching, take no prisoners.
  15. I think a lot of people thought the same thing when we had Wood and Prior (with Z waiting in the wings). *Sad face*
  16. I would love, love, love ARod on this team. I just don't see why the Cubs should have to give up a guy three years younger who is about as good to get him. ARod is significantly better than any player on the Cubs roster right now. Bar none. Not when it comes time in October. He's unclutch, its a fact of life, and Derek Jeter couldn't even save him. Maybe I was seeing things, but I saw a whole bunch of Yankees suddenly fall flat both this season and the last when they hit the playoffs. And didn't I read that it was only this year and the last where he put up lousy post-season numbers? Besides, baseball's history is riddled with great players who suddenly turned medicore or downright awful when they hit the playoffs. That's why you build a quality team and not pin all of your hopes on a single guy. ARod could have hit career highs this post-season and the Yankees would have still lost it.
  17. Y'know, this is purely subjective on my part, and probably not at all backed up in actual analysis or stats, but I always said that the Cardinals of recent years always had it too easy...they breezed through the regular season and then through the playoffs with few real challenges, so when they finally had to a face a team that typically had to fight its way in they fold like a house of cards. Now it's the flipside and the Cardinals are the "fighting team" against a team that didn't exactly "breeze" into the playoffs at the end, but definitely rolled through them with no problem.
  18. As everyone should. He got his shot.
  19. Must...resist...urge...to...roll...EYES! ARRRRRRRRGH!!!
  20. When are we allowed to want to move on from depending on him? After 3 dissapointing seasons? 4? who said anything about whether or not we could depend on him? i wouldn't really depend on him, but it's not because i think he's a wuss/pansy/less than a man. The last thing I want to do is depend on a pitcher that has no stones! Instead of spending another off season playing video games, I'm hoping Prior actually takes it seriously enough to get his arse off from the couch and lift some weights. Was this sarcasm?
  21. Hip, Hip, Hooray! I'd rather save the 12-13 million and keep Murton in LF. Me too, though if the trading Jacque rumors are true, I'd happily take Lee's services in RF.
  22. No, Cashman isn't stupid; but if A-Rod really wanted to be traded, I think Cashman would oblige him. Pitching is what the Yankees really need. I don't think the loss of A-Rod would really hurt the Yankees and their star-studded lineup. Ken Exactly. Trading ARod, even with his supposed "lowered value" (*Scoff-scoff*), would be like if the Cubs had wised up and took a chance trading Sammy after 2001. He can either give them an instant quality farm system or the pitching they desperately need. It's not like their offense is suddenly crippled without him.
  23. Bruce's comments on Rothschild make his coming back not drive me as insane as I'd thought, but I'm still not convinced. O'Neal, on the other hand...given the rampant and repeated injuries, I'm sorry, the traning staff has to be at least somewhat accountable.
