  1. Short of Aramis refusing anything under 7 years and/or wanting at least $17 million per, there's really no excuse unless Aramis said he simply doesn't want to come back no matter what the offer.
  2. If Hendry somehow pulled off a miracle and got Cabrera I would actually forget Aramis ever existed in this or any other dimension.
  3. What, Sammy forced Bonds to do what he did? Please.
  4. http://www.bluetomorrow.com/images/stories/man%20law.jpg No fruit in beer! True. But it is a pretty good beer on its own, sans fruit. I think it's a Belgian wheat, and it has a really smooth, sweet aftertaste.
  5. So it's waiting for Hawkins to blow another save?
  6. "Jap pitcher?" Call me "over PC" if you want, that's pretty funky right there.
  7. Can he play 3rd? We might have an opening.
  8. The next person that posts anything besides actual news or rumors gets an e-punch to the e-teeth.
  9. Would he even know? I'd have to say he'd probably know more than Buster Olney, considering Matsuzaka is his agent. uh, i think you got that backwards  No, Daisuke really is THAT good.
  10. Then you would be creating another hole on the team. Not if they're determined to pick up at least 2 other starting pitchers. It all hinges on what else Hendry can get done. And Sanchez seems pretty good. That deal doesnt make sense. You dont trade a staff ace. Their determined to pick up at least 2 other starting pitchers? Who are these guys that are better than Zambrano? Why do they need to be better or even as good as Zambrano? Shell out for Zito or Schmidt or the other Japanese pitcher posting, another pitcher along the lines of Padilla (with less insane self-represented demands)...ideally 3 new hurlers but 2 if all that can be had. Combine those signings with Miller, Prior, Hill and Sanchez and just kind of hope for the best. Yeah, it's not ideal and there's definitely risks involved, but it does net you ARod and Sanchez doesn't seem to be a slouch, far from it. Like I said, I don't know if it's anything even close to being a smart deal. I can just see a potential upside to it. There's been talk of Zambrano having the potential for real health problems down the line, so selling high wouldn't have to be the end of the world and could actually be smart if done right.
  11. I'm beyond nervous. Now I'm just pissed off.

  13. Maybe I'm just an idiot, but possibly the Cubs looks to offer something like Zambrano (and a second, relatively minor player) for ARod and Sanchez?
  14. SEND UP THE BRUCE-SIGNAL! Seriously, I need even a shred of semi-legit insider info and/or analysis.
  15. I think the 6 years is the catch right there that Hendry is hanging up on. I'll bet anything that he's trying to stick to 5 years... Ohhhhhhhhh Lordy...
  16. I can see this backfiring for the Red Sox, if it is true they won the bid. You KNOW being outspent so dramatically by their rivals is going to send the Yankees into overdrive. Watch them go nuts and stomp everyone to end up with Zito and Schmidt and then something extra crazy like Soriano, too.
  17. I agree, but ESPN is usually more responsible with its reporting than some random site with a rumor. If it's on ESPN's web site, it is much more credible. But it's also revolving around the Red Sox. You know if it was the same rumor about the Yankees they'd be jumping all over it, too. Their network revolves around Boston and New York. Stirring the pot gets the armies watching.
  18. When Aram is a Dodger next week my point will be more clear. What exactly is your point? That the likely 2-3 million dollars at the most are what kept Aramis from resigning? Or are you saying Hendry totally ignored Aramis to get this done? 2-3 Million kept us from Furcal last year. So you're saying that the Cubs were unable to pay that extra money because they needed it somewhere else as opposed to just being UNWILLING to pay it?

  20. Excellent. Agreed. This is pretty much win-win for the Cubs. Very good signing. Now get the big boys!
  21. dishing $$$ for garbage players or rehab projects. Hey, Miller was great once upon a time. But he is still a rehab project. So what? If they're cheap and used smart, what's the harm in taking a chance?
  22. And if he doesn't, oh well. If he's being brought back cheap as backup for part of a bigger plan, I have zero problem with this. If they're expecting him to be a lock as a #4 or even #5 starter, that's not smart. Play with the idea that he's playing for #5 with Prior and youngster of the month and this has plenty of upside. If they've planned smart, Miller not hitting 100 innings isn't a problem, and him hitting that or more is almost all cake. Quit acting like this signing is the end of the world or on par with signing guys like Rusch and Neifi. They have even more money now and can afford a cheap rehab project or two as long as they don't eat big money or are banked on to be the focus in their roles. Smart teams have backup plans...hopefully Miller is one.
  23. What keeps coming to mind when I think of this is how the Cubs had scouts over there for awhile. I'm sure they done their homework. If he is worth the money, I'm thinking this year, the Cubs will shell it out. The Cubs just may surprise us. Along those lines, hopefully it means that if they don't get Daisuke, they're still looking to go after some of the other very good players posting.
  24. Heh...the little blurb on MLBTR.com about this made me think of Vance...
