  1. You basically answered it yourself. Willis is proven, and for a team like a Yankees, that makes all the difference in the world.
  2. Not bad, but seeing as the Marlins probably aren't forgetting what we were willing to give up for Pierre, I think they'd at least want someone like Guzman to make it a trio.
  3. the yankees could get much better prospects than that from any number of teams. of course, arod may not ok a trade to any of those teams... That's an interesting point. That Yankees might effectively HAVE to deal with the Cubs if they have even an inkling of wanting to trade ARod at this point. I know it's been said ARod would accept a trade if the Yankees came to him and said they wanted him gone, but now that Sweet Lou and his offer/command are supposedly out there, maybe it's either sticking in NYC or going to the Cubs for ARod. Oh, if only...
  4. Spin some quality rookies down to the Marlins...you'd have to certainly involve at least one of Hill, Pie, Veal, Gallagher or Guzman...then spin Willis off to the Yanks. I'd toss in Eyre and see if they throw back Pavano, too.
  5. That's anger radiating off his skin. He hustled his way up to the podium. He just realized he was in Chicago. "Hey, quit clogging the stage!"
  6. That's how I think it's most likely to get ARod, a player I'd much rather have instead of Willis. I can't shake the feeling that he'll (D-Train) have significant DL time on his plate down the line.
  7. Yeah, it just says that he got a second opinion other than O'Neal. It's a good thing. Can we delete everything else in the thread except for these two posts and then lock it? Because everyone seems to be ignoring them. It's no longer fair game to question Mark O'Neal's ability? I'm all for that. I want it far beyond just questioning the man at this point. But almost everyone is responding to the title like Prior is actually hurt again with a new injury.
  8. HAW-HAW!!! I hate to revel in such things, but THESE are the kind of results that are going to kick the Tribune in the butt and have them follow through on some serious improvements and/or ultimately sell the team.

  11. Eyre was mediocre last year. Keeping him for insurance purposes when you can call up Novoa to strike out a bunch of guys and put up a 1.5 WHIP doesn't make sense. Eyre was out of shape this year. He still brings alot of value to the Cubs. He still costs too much with very little chance of getting more than what you've already got. Wood can probably be had for less money and a lot more upside. Besides, we've got plenty of decent, cheap and young pitchers who could easily fill bullpen slots. Bottom line, either Dempster or Eyre needs to go to free up some cash, and Eyre is most likely to get you more in return while not having to pay much of, if any, of his salary.
  12. When did we get one? Shhh, maybe they're reading. What about Moore? "Uhhhh, yeah, he's the best! A prince among men!"
  13. \\ Why Prior? I'd avoid trading him because he's only had one year where he's really injury prone. Of course, you're toying with wasting his value if he's bad again this year, but i'd rather that we suck the remaining life out of his arm over the Yankees. If prior or no prior is a dealbreaker, than I trade them Prior. I would like to keep him, but a Prior, Eyre, Pie package to me looks like the only one that would get it done without trading away a keeper unless the Yankees really love Hill. I wouldn't be surprised if a Hill/Eyre/Pie deal does it if the Yankees manage to get Daisuke. Hill is suddenly a MUCH cheaper version of Zito and they can spare the offense.
  14. This was a [expletive] victory. It was awesome and awful. I love these guys...and I hate them. SO [expletive].
  15. I know it's not just you, but this sentiment is such garbage.
  16. I don't see anyone outbidding the Yankees. George is convinced starting pitching is to blame for their early exit from the playoffs, and he wasn't very happy when the Mariners outbid him for Ichiro. If the Yankees end up doubling the amount of the second-highest bid, I wouldn't be shocked. Which isn't awful, because that's likely to leave Zito and Schmidt to be picked up elsewhere.
  17. I have my issues with Piniella, but even he can't be stupid enough to realize this team is doomed before they even have a chance if Aramis walks. If he his whole thing is turning down teams that aren't "going to win," why in God's name would he pick the Cubs if it wasn't all but certain that Aramis was coming back? The only way that makes sense is if he has some kind of magical powers that will guarentee ARod becomes a Cub, and I don't think that's the case, "good relationship" between the two or not. Personally, I think Aramis is almost a lock to come back and just a few details need to be ironed out. I don't know why it's dragging out, and that does worry me a bit, but I can't see this organization, yes, THIS organization, letting Aramis walk.
  18. "I hope" does not settle well with me! The "I hope" seems to just be saying "I hope I can lock down Lou as quick as possible, then it's back to Aramis." It really doesn't sound like he's saying anything else.
  19. Awwww, Rich even has the decency to not show up in an obnoxiously huge sig pic. What a sport!
  20. I'm not gonna say no to Zito, but I'd much rather have Daisuke.
  21. Yeah, OK, it's a stretch to bash him for this. It's not like the picture is of him hogging all the attention or even trying to do so. He's just running out of the dugout and smiling because they won. Actually, I think he might even be HUSTLING out of the dugout...oh, Neifi! You scrappy champion!
  22. So quickly we forget he was our best player in 2004, including down the stretch when everyone (including Derrek Lee) was absolutely terrible. He had a bad month and a half. I don't see how that means he has no "charachter" or that he's a "loser". Well, his hustle quotent was down almost 45% in that time period. His charisma took a hit and don't even ask about his hit points. Aramis, don't ever change.
  23. That the training staff wasn't fired actually ticks me off more than Hendry still being around.
