  1. Fixed.
  2. If he somehow ends up being a starter, I want this etched on a bronze plate and hung above his locker.
  3. I've always been confused how a guy can't be judged for a job based on 100+ AB's during the regular season, but he can be judged for a job based on fewer ABs during the spring. Why is regular season performance less valuable than spring training performance when judging a young player's ability? Exactly. Otherwise Angel Pagan might be the best player the Cubs have right now. Oh, wait.
  4. I just wanna see Miller do well and spare us on the change purse.
  5. Good for Nomar and Maddux. Great players who deserve better than the crap the Cubs would have fed 'em.
  6. Dodgers vs. Yankees.
  7. He should be given a chance to compete, sure, and short of being a complete disaster he's earned being the main middle infield backup. I'd still take Soriano over him a million times over. The Riot will get plenty of chances to spell for the brittle Izturis.
  8. I'd still want Soriano for 2nd, but why not move The Riot over to short?
  9. Not to derail the thread, and I'm sure you've answered this elsewhere, but why hasn't Dierker managed at all in the last 5 years? I know about the seizure and brain surgery in, what, '99? 2000? But didn't he manage the Astros for another year or two after that? Why'd he stop managing after 2001? Or to put it another way, why is nobody hiring him? According to this, it may be Dierker's choice: Dierker has a blog which you can find here. So why would he accept an offer to manage the Cubs?
  10. $85 million. $70 million the year after.
  11. Willis is very good but vastly overrated. He's a series of DL stints waiting to happen with his mechanics/delivery.

  13. Soriano you have to give up money to get. Tejada you have to give an arm and leg to get in the first place and then you can toss a pile of money at him. No thanks. If the Cubs are gonna sell the farm, aim higher.
  14. That's an awful, awful deal. You don't trade that much for an aging player on the backend of his career and another player who'll crumble the instant he shows up at Wrigley and screws up ANYTHING. And it's still not enough of an offensive upgrade for this team.
  15. I'd love Jacque if he was platooned with Craig Wilson and not hitting higher than 6th in the lineup.
  16. You know what this means, right? It's going to be the time Hendry is FINALLY motivated by the White Sox and he does something insane, like signing Pierre to a 3 year/$8 million per deal.
  17. Not going after Craig Wilson will make me angry. RF is suddenly a LOT more impressive if he's picked up.
  18. Actually, I think you could get something decent for Dempster if packaged right...and the Cubs would probably have to eat some of the money. Bottom line, you can't get rid of both Howry and Eyre and if you have to pick between the two I don't know why anyone wouldn't keep Howry. He's held up under the extra work and has shown he can usually slide right into the closer's spot when needed. Guys like Eyre and Novoa have deceptively decent numbers that I think could net some good returns. Trade Eyre off on his own and package Demp and Novoa together, insert Wood, Marmol and Mateo and move it on up!
  19. I think you need to hold onto Howry and Wuertz if you're going to attempt Wood at closer. Kerry is going to have to work his way into that kind of schedule, and if they're even somewhat competitive they're going to need the extra coverage.
  20. Howry? He's at least shown to be worth the money. Dempster and, to a lesser degree, Eyre are the ones really sucking away at the cash. Those tw and Novoa should be the ones to be moved.
  21. I said I'm in favor of such a contract. I don't think I need to realize anything. I'm just questioning the notion that Miller came back quicker and better than Prior or Wood and is more dependable as well. I never said he came back quicker or is more dependable. What I DID say is that he's pitched better coming off of a major injury/surgery than Prior or Wood did when they "came back" this year. I'm not trying to insult the other 2; just put Miller's progress into context as that I think he should be signed back for the right kind of deal.
  22. His pitch counts were pretty high in all of those starts, so I don't know so much of it being a leash as it was he pitched himself out of each one.
  23. He hasn't even had one quality start. Then I'll plead ignorance to what a "quality start" technically is. I figured he pulled them off the last 3 starts, but if I had to guess, they're not technically quality starts because of the amount of innings pitched each game, right? Well, despite that, I'd still call them quality starts, just in the "rest of the world" definition of the word "quality." Sure, I'd like to see him last longer and get a bit more oomph on his velocity, but he looked pretty damn good.
  24. NOW PROMENADE!!!
  25. Astros or Cardinals, neither team makes it past the 1st round. Sweeps all around!
