  1. *Echo...echo...echo* Z at 77 pitches after 5 with no runs allowed, 3 hits, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. I say give him one more inning and then get him out...definitely nothing above 90 pitches.
  2. So the home runs today have come from Jacque against a lefty, the starting pitcher, craptacular Cedeno and Theriot, who, let's face it, is pretty anti-power. Murton's is the only one that really makes any kind of sense.
  3. It'll be very poetic if a blowout win by the Cubs has the shortest game thread of the year.
  4. No thanks. Give Prior within the division and it's a lock he magically heals 110% and beats up on the Cubs savagely for almost a decade. I know this to be so. It is written in the stars.
  5. Guess who's back...back again... I'm thirding the idea of shutting him down, but I'll readily admit seeing his name as the starter makes me feel all tingly.
  6. OK, I hated Rich Hill. Out and out loathed the guy as a one pitch, AAAA, loogy at best hack. He was proved me wrong. Oh-so wrong. And I'm loving it. Hill's games are the only times I've been truly excited to watch the Cubs play this year. So, yes, I was very wrong about Rich Hill, and I hope he is mighty and awesome forever. The end.
  7. "Putting the ball in play is better than striking out" is verging on being the next "clogging the bases."
  8. Plus the guy has already made more money than most of us probably will even THINK of maming our lifetime, so I couldn't give a care if he completely fails at this point.
  9. We have a team right now that doesn't strike out a lot and who "put the ball in play." It ain't working.
  10. I really don't see a comparison. I was wrong about Hill, and when he was doing bad I was getting extra frustrated because of how good his AAA numbers were and because it seemed like Hendry had missed the boat in terms of "selling high" with him. Obviously, I was wrong, and I'm glad... Theriot isn't in any kind of a similar situation. His minor league numbers aren't terribly impressive and he's only been "really good" for an incredibly short amount of time. I don't want Theriot gone, I just don't want him as the regular starter. He is not THAT good, period. Maybe on a much, much, MUCH better team, sure. But not this team, not next year.
  11. Smart-butt answer aside, the reason why Pie wasn't called up is because he "isn't ready". That is the easiest answer. I know the Cubs got kids like Jose Reyes, but Pie is too important to rush. The decision not to call up Pie was the RIGHT call, regardless of fans wanted to see a "top prospect" playing at the major league level. The Cubs can't afford another Patterson mistake. That, IMO, is the reason why Pie wasn't call up. There's nothing wrong with a top (young) prospect being called up to play the last month of a lost season. IF the coaches were good ones. Letting Pie know just to play and don't worry about results, and teach him correctly how to deal with whatever happens. However this is the Cubs and their coaches are horrible. So in this case, yes it was right not to call him up. . Maybe it's a sign Hendry was wised up a little and doesn't want their top prospect getting tainted by the guys he knows are gone as soon as this season is over. On the bright side, I have been impressed especially with the bullpen, for the most part, the last few days. Aardsma, Wuertz, Ryu and even Walrond have stepped it up along with Howry and Eyre and Ohman to deal with the starters not making it for the long haul.
  12. Why get rid of Murton who is progressing quite nicely in power and OBP and could realistically put up a .360 OBP next year and "possibly" a .370 OBP next year. And hit 10-20 HR for $450k and replace him who admitedly hits alot of HR but has about the same OBP or only slightly better than Murton. It's not a huge upgrade besides power. I'd rather upgrade positions which are really weak, like RF, CF, 2B, or SS. If he's getting on base at almost the same clip or more AND hitting for a ton more power, what exactly is the argument for not wanting Dunn over Murton again? I honestly don't see a downside.
  13. As one of the ones fed up with Hill, even then I could concede that Hill had a pile of VERY impressive AAA numbers behind him. Cedeno had bad to OK numbers behind him while Theriot has OK to kinda good numbers behind him. Comparing them to Hill is incredibly inaccurate. Cedeno looked great in his limited starts at the end of last year, too.
  14. I'd lay a grand that if we start Theriot and let him play most of the year we'd end up with Cedeno II: Electric Suckaloo or MAYBE Cedeno+ at best.
  15. Shoot, if they can get Dunn, Murton keeps going along like he has and they snag someone like Soriano, I'll take freakin' Pagan in CF until Pie comes up.
  16. i think he is the best option in the system until ep is ready. alot of people on this board were stoked to get freel or loretta to play 2b and i think theriot can be at least as good as they are. i like what i've seen from theriot alot and think he can be better than just a utility player if given a shot. Based on what? His career numbers thus far aren't terribly better than Cedeno's. And who is to say that Patterson is even the answer down the line? Just because they're young doesn't automatically make them good.
  17. Without Kerry and a ? on Prior? Deffinatly. They (JH) know that we are in dire need of Picthing. If Miller imrpoves he might look good as a possible #4 #5 quality guy. JH still needs to out out there and get that bonified Ace like starter. . Or how about long relief? Surely he's an upgrade over someone like Rusch. Walrond is an upgarde over somebody like Rusch.
  18. Yet we would see Neifi down there all the time, getting all Gumby.
  19. That's too easy. Game 7 of the World Series; Wrigley Field; top of the 9th; Cubs lead the Yankees 11-2; two outs; none on; Arod hits a weak grounder to Lee who fields the ball about three feet from first base and a meteor hits and wipes out the planet before Lee can touch first base. Too big. It would have to be a scenarior where the fans live on to suffer even more. Maybe the Earth would just open up and swallow both teams and leave everyone else.
  20. Wow, Marmol has absolutely nothing today. 3 walks, 2 hits and 4 runs already with just 1 out.
  21. Gameday says Mateo left the game due to an injured back...too much peeking over Z' shoulder while he surfed for online porn? For shame, young man... Oh, and the Cedeno watch for today has a caught stealing and grounded into a double play. Stay tuned!
  22. Unless he strained something out of embarassment, I highly doubt it.
  23. I would do any one of those deals to get Dunn so fast I'd set the Earth spinning backwards to a point where the Cubs WOULDN'T have Dunn, and I would be sad again.
  24. I'm surprised the Cubs have already walked twice in the 1st inning.
  25. Dunn, please. Try Dempster or Howry and somehow magically sell Pagan and Jones as a platoon team.
