  1. Disagree. With as much time off as he's gonna have, he's gonna set the record for Diamond Dynasty.
  2. But they're not! There's teams saying they're not interested in Harper or Machado; that I would expect as the usual playing coy BS that's part of the negotiating dance if they're actually interested. How many teams are actively repeating the story that they're effectively more hamstrung financially than they seemingly expected to be?
  3. I guess I just don't see much of a difference if the Cubs drop word that guys are available whether or not they're pursuing FA. Things like the Cubs' OF being...iffy and them likely wanting to move on from Russell and needed pitching aren't exactly secrets. The value Schwarber and Happ have is largely unchanged, IMO, regardless of who they bring in. I don’t disagree, maybe they just want to jump the market on trades and get these guys moved now vs in a month+. You’re right on their value not changing much but maybe they feel they can get more now vs after FA starts moving (for whatever reasons). If they feel good about getting Bryce maybe moving Happ/Schwarber now they think they have more leverage vs when they have Bryce they think teams could hold back value knowing we are more motivated to move one with Bryce than without him. Right, I agree with all that...but pretending to be poor doesn't fit into that. At all.
  4. Yeah I really like that move if the money is a net zero. I’d even include a fairly decent prospect on our side with + like Vic/Maples to get it done. what motivation would the angels have to trade cozart for chatwood? what's the upside for them

  6. Well, if we're sticking with the whole, "they're actually doing the opposite of what they're saying" thing, then maybe this means they're actually signing Harper, getting rid of Russell, AND firing Joe.
  7. Like, hasn't this FO's typical move in the past been largely going radio silent when they're trying to get something done?
  8. Why are teams going to be inclined to get a trade done sooner if the Cubs are strapped for cash? Like, who is that going to rush along outside of teams trying to swap bad contracts? I just don't get the people who are so adamant why this is some kind if elaborate ruse when there's little to no advantage to the Cubs to be broadcasting that they're looking for change in the couch.
  9. Yeah it really does seem like that What the horsefeathers would even be the point. "Oh, man, the Cubs are so crafty, what with pretending like they can't afford those free agents that literally everyone else wants." This isn't some tricky multi-team deal or some kind of under the radar signing they're trying to pull off; it's horsefeathering Bryce horsefeathering Harper. Pretending to be poor accomplishes horsefeathers all.
  10. I still think we'll get some value out of Yu. Chatwood is pocket change, comparatively, and we might not have won the WS without Heyward so I'm already good on that one. If Yu is still having arm problems next year I'm fully on the "make Yu pitch with his left hand" train. We'll get some value out of this guy yet! Sure, they'll get some value from him, but the likely window of that value shrank pretty dramatically with this year being a bust. There's zero chance the Cubs signed him without figuring that at least the last couple of seasons on his deal are probably going to stink; now they're looking at getting year 6 in year 1 on a 32-year old pitcher with a long injury history. And clearly they can't shrug off what Chatwood is making; it's not like they signed him like the dumpster pitcher he is. And the Heyward thing is moot; the dude's an anchor at this point and is only going to get worse. That's a ton of dead/dying/very sick money between these 3.
  11. I still think it's also misleading to say they chose to give Hamels 20 million, without knowing if they really would have given him the $20 million without a coresponding move to save $7 million and really only make it a $13 million transaction. I don't think there is any question the Cubs aren't broke. They can do one year deals for $13 million. But if they are trying to keep flexibility for future years, these are the kinds of moves you make. What would we be trying to stay flexible for though? If you have money (we do) you stay flexible for when a guy like Bryce hits FA Maybe they'd rather stick with extending the guys they already have, figuring it won't cost them as much and is an easy way to please plenty of fans even if they suck. Who the horsefeathers knows; they're monsters.
  12. If they're deciding to gamble on the bats they have all clicking again and realizing (rightly) that their starting pitching is held together by Popsicle sticks and rubber bands, yes, it definitely makes sense.
  13. My guess is something changed with the TV deal projections. horsefeathering greedy scum.
  14. Make sure to keep jacking up the ticket prices, too, you ridiculous cockheaded assholes. Oh, but it'll be so horsefeathering great to look at the stupid hotel and the triangle building and whatever the horsefeathers David loves to post about instead of talking about actual baseball. PREPARE TO UNLEASH RAGE AND DESTROY THE RICH.
  15. horsefeathers this Ted Cruz-looking [expletive] right in his horsefeathering waxy ear.
  16. Lemme print out some old LeBron in Bulls uniforms pics to wipe my tears away with.
  17. Heyward, Darvish and Chatwood (and, soon, Hamels) are history's greatest monsters.
  18. So, try it sometime? I'm going to give this a try. Sometime in November/December: Dodgers sign Bryce Harper.
  19. PTR can't wait to start sharing hobo soup recipes with Ted Cruz again.
  20. His stuff is ridiculous and he can make major league hitters look foolish. He’s “intriguing” and he’s like behind probably ~5 guys on the Iowa shuttle right now. He’s a fine lottery ticket to keep around if he ever gets the command to even slightly worse than league average levels he could be elite. He’s like the definition of “intriguing option” for a guy who still has minor league options to hang around at no cost.
  21. Finally, some good Bears content.
