  1. It's probably the same m.o. behind Haren being shopped. If we offer something impressive, he'll deal him. So...what would a fair deal for Swisher be? It seems we're shopping Prior. So...how about like Prior/Gallagher/Colvin for Swisher? Beane loves OBP, not something Colvin exactly excells at. I bet he'd like a Murton type hitter. Could Prior/Gallagher/Murton net the Cubs Swisher? That would be a huge boost to the Cubs offense. It's been pointed out, but 36M over what should be his prime years - ages 27 thru 31 - would be a huge bargain if Swisher continues along his trajectory, and maybe boost his power numbers playing at Wrigley. Hudson is completely redundant and not an exciting enough player to warrant pursuing IMO. I don't know why Hendry can't just sit tight with Dero at 2nd. What about Marshall instead of Gallagher? I'd rather have Gallagher around as the 5th man option this year and more down the line.
  2. I ask because I see people on boards claiming that it's reported that Santana has basically told that to the Twins. Are they just pulling this out of their butts?
  3. I would trade Hill for Bedard. I'd try and make a package to trade for Tejada and Bedard, sign Fukudome and call it a offseason. Never happen, I know, but hey, I can dream.
  4. So I assume Santana is pretty much only saying he'll go the Red Sox or Yankees, right?
  5. Not sure. Looking at what the Dodgers and Angels have said in regards to negotiations, I could see the Marlins wanting Pie, Soto, Murton, and Gallagher. They might prefer Marmol to one of those. Yikes. If you can get them to replace soto with Marmol i might do it. otherwise, no. It leaves us with more holes than it fills, then. Maybe. If they also signed Fukudome, he plays CF while Cabrera & Soriano cover LF/RF...however it gets ironed. Quite frankly, I'll live with Cabrera in the OF with his bat doing the damage that it does, especially since he said he'd play wherever his new team waned him. Make sure he hits the treadmill and start crushing.
  6. I agree. This should be his absolute final chance. Let him start the season as a Cub. And to think I was dead set against that Tejada and Bedard deal when it was proposed. I wish I had a time machine to go back on tha t one. Ditto. Think of how Bedard would look in our rotation now. If I recall correctly, Bedard was never on the table. Hendry insisted on Bedard's inclusion, and that's the biggest reason the deal never went forward. Very true. And I believe the O's wanted more than Prior for Tejada, too.
  7. Well, we have Soriano leading off with his sub-par OBP. If we get Fukudome and Tejada, my lineup would be: Soriano Fukudome Lee Ramirez Tejada DeRosa Soto Pie Yea that lineup would be ideal. Also apparently the Cubs are looking at moving Soriano out of the leadoff spot, but they say he needs to have speed. With that lineup right there Id go with Fukudome DeRosa Aram Soriano Lee Tejada Soto Pie Wait, why push Lee and Tejada down that far? Bat Lee 2nd, then Aram, then Sori, then Tejada.
  8. I wonder if his eyebrows will be even more sexily sculpted.
  9. Well, we have Soriano leading off with his sub-par OBP. If we get Fukudome and Tejada, my lineup would be: Soriano Fukudome Lee Ramirez Tejada DeRosa Soto Pie *Sighs* That lineup makes me feel all funny and tingly. I hope it's just me excited over its awesomeness and not a stroke. Unless it's a stroke that comes after the shock of Hendry actually putting that team together...I'll take that one for the team. No, I really won't. Please don't stroke me, God. Wait....what?
  10. I'd hate to have a bunch of cash spent on Marquis, Prior and Clement. I'd rather bring a young guy up and put the money into a quality hitter. Now, if the Cubs trade Marquis and Prior, then yes, it might be a nice gamble. Yea, good point. I'm assuming Prior is gone though, and Hendry is entertaining offers for Marquis, so who knows. We certainly don't! It would be nice to get those 3 prospects for Prior, Trade Marquis and his salary for a B prospect and sign Clement if he can pitch. I figure that out to save the Cubs about 10-Clement and should be enough cash for a trade for Tejada or sign Fukedome. Whoa, whoa, WHOA...slow down. That all makes too much sense.
  11. Doesn't mean they can't look at AFFORDABLE pitchers. That's the key. If the pitchers are affordable, it's very likely they won't be any better than what we already have. Yeah, when your starting lineup is shaping up to have both Ryan Dempster AND Jason Marquis in it, that's simply not true.
  12. Doesn't mean they can't look at AFFORDABLE pitchers. That's the key.
  13. With the full Abe Lincoln goatee; it's not even a question. If I were Hendry or any GM, I wouldn't even negotiate with him if there was no goatee involved. It's part of his mystique. Abe Lincoln had a bushy chinstrap.
  14. Definitely a preferrable "here's hoping" signing to Dempster and Marquis and God knows how many others.
  15. I've already done like 5 or 6 skyballs in celebration.
  16. I'd think he's interested, but I think there's just no way he has the approval to pay him beyond this last year, and I don't see this trade happening without a deal established quickly before the 2008 season starts. Santana simply wants too much, plus he has that NTC. The nebulous ownership situation with the Cubs very possibly makes them unappealing to a player like Santanatrying to get his big payday ASAP.
  17. I'd like to think that he's not as narrowminded as that. Dusty is an obvious and pretty justified scapegoat, but in terms of getting treatment, Mark had his own doctors that apparently didn't push for surgery any earlier, either. Plus he was also treated by a lot of "MLB doctors" as well. And in terms of escaping any negative segments of the press or the fans, I'd think they'd only be worse elsewhere. The Chicago "world" is more inclined to remember the good times whereas listening to other fans and commentators in general they focus pretty much on the injuries and the idea that there's a good chance he's done as summing him up.
  18. It's been pretty obvious for a while now that it was only going to be either of those teams.
  19. Heh, would have been a record-setting 56 if they didn't hit that last second shot from half court.
  20. Yessssssssssssssss. Honestly, I'll live without Fukudome if it means no Godawful Matsui contract/production the next 3 years.
  21. Well, I can't say I'm a fan of the guy as a player, but he has had some bright spots with his pitching. Hopefully he can string a few more together. If he does his floating head trick again like he did in Houston. I'll cut him a little bit of slack. For a week. Maybe.
  22. Yeah, Hill wouldn't appeal to them at all. It's not like he's cheap and with proven MLB success...oh, wait...
  23. seriously. the cubs are apparently hemming and hawing about a few mil for prior, but they're perfectly willing to piss away $16 mil on that guy? i'd much rather have mark prior for the next three years than matsui. +1 Amen. Count me in. They can spend "recovery money" on guys like Dempster, Wade Miller and Scott Williamson after they were injured or had surgery to see if they could approach thei previous highs...none of which even sniffed the amazing pitching Prior did for the Cubs.
